For Now and Forever (The Inn at Sunset Harbor—Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 8,344 ratings

“Sophie Love's ability to impart magic to her readers is exquisitely wrought in powerfully evocative phrases and descriptions….FOR NOW AND FOREVER is the perfect romance or beach read, with a difference: its enthusiasm and beautiful descriptions offer an unexpected attention to the complexity of not just evolving love, but evolving psyches. It's a delightful recommendation for romance readers looking for a touch more complexity from their romance reads.”
--Midwest Book Review (Diane Donovan)

“FOR NOW AND FOREVER is a very well written novel, describing the struggle of a woman (Emily) to find her true identity. The author did an amazing job with the creation of the characters and her description of the environment. The romance is there, but not overdosed. Kudos to the author for this amazing start of a series that promises to be very entertaining.”
--Books and Movies Reviews, Roberto Mattos

Emily Mitchell, 35, living and working in New York City, has struggled through a string of failed relationships. When her boyfriend of 7 years takes her out for their long-awaited anniversary dinner, Emily is sure that this time will be different, that this time she will finally get the ring.

When he gives her a small bottle of perfume instead, Emily knows the time has come to break up with him—and for her entire life to have a fresh start.

Reeling from her unsatisfying, high-pressure life, Emily decides she needs a change. She decides on a whim to drive to her father’s abandoned home on the coast of Maine, a sprawling, historic house where she’d spent magical summers as a child. But the house, long-neglected, is in dire need of repair, and the winter is no time to be in Maine. Emily hasn’t been there in 20 years, when a tragic accident changed her sister’s life and shattered her family. Her parents divorced, her father disappeared, and Emily was never able to bring herself to step foot in that house again.

Now, for some reason, with her life reeling, Emily feels drawn to the only childhood place she ever knew. She plans on going just for a weekend, to clear her head. But something about the house, its numerous secrets, its memories of her father, its oceanfront allure, its small-town setting—and most of all, its gorgeous, mysterious caretaker—doesn’t want to let her leave. Can she find the answers she’s been looking for here, in the most unexpected place of all?

Can a weekend become a lifetime?

FOR NOW AND FOREVER is book #1 in the debut of a dazzling new romance series that will make you laugh, make you cry, will keep you turning pages late into the night—and will make you fall in love with romance all over again.

Book #2--FOREVER AND FOR ALWAYS--is also available!

Had to stop reading
I really hate to leave negative reviews, and I will say that the author is a decent story teller, but good grief, did she not do any research? No car, especially one that is neglected, is going to be able to drive for 8 hours on one tank of gas. How did the attendant at the long-term parking lot know she was coming to get her car? Why in the world was she barefoot? Who drives to Maine from New York in the winter in bare feet? In a snowstorm? How did she gain access to the house that sat abandoned for 20 years? There was no mention of a key. Did she really sleep in a bed that was abandoned for 20 years? Ewww! Why was there a washer/dryer in the pantry? Those old houses all have basements and the washers and dryers are in the basements! The author uses the word "orientated" at one point. There is no such word. It's "oriented". When the "heroine" starts looking for a shovel INSIDE the house, I finally gave up and stopped reading. The only reason I ordered this book was because it had five stars. So misleading.

First, I loved the setting. Having vacationed in the area, I could imagine the backdrop of the story so I was instantly in love. But.....going to a house that has been abandoned for 20 years and finding things as they were left? Seriously?! A mysterious care taker shows up and you do not question why there is a care taker when your father mysteriously disappeared abandoning a house he loved? The house is unlocked (again nothing has been disturbed, looted, vandalized, tagged), has no electricity, hello, it's been abandon for 20 years! Would you sleep in a bed that has been sitting for 20 years? So many holes in the story, so much lack of common sense. I finished the book because of the setting. The story could have been better written, the idea was there. I can't imagine an editor not catching these faux pas. I had to roll my eyes so many times. The most comical was ***SPOLER ALERT*** a swimming pool INSIDE a barn??!! Come on Sophie Love, do you think you readers are that dumb? I will continue the series as long as I can read it for free. Because of the absurdity of the back story, it is hard to buy into. If you can overlook the many, many holes in the story and enjoy the idea of what the character is trying to achieve, you will enjoy the story with a few eye rolls.

Well written story of a lovely 35 year old woman haunted by the past. And then one thing after another happens and she sees happiness and enterprise as her future. Lots of hard work ahead, but no doubt she’ll be successful in the small town she has grown to love.

This is the first book that I've read by this author and it won't be the last. In fact, I'll be getting the rest of this series as I need to know what happens.

The style of writing flowed well throughout the book with beautiful descriptions adding to the developing story. I loved the main character and liked how her personality grew with the challenges she encountered. I so want her house...and that's all I'm saying. No spoilers here!
