Future Ex Enemy (Mallory Vineyard) Kindle Edition
The only thing I hate more than Luis Montgomery is his fanatical obsession with avant garde floral design. His arrangements, much like his personality, lack respect and class. Working with him is a nightmare, but everywhere I turn, there he is, taunting me. I can never let on that he gets under my skin and I'll never tell him my flower shop is on the verge of closing for good. When I’m invited to participate in a floral design competition, it’s a no-brainer. I have to enter, I have to out-design him, and I have to win.
Luis
Like a thorn in my side, David Cranston is always underfoot and the only thing running hotter than my temper is apparently my attraction to the frustrating—and far too handsome—older man. Forced to room together and collaborate in the contest, the stress of the situation has me doing things I normally wouldn’t do, like use lemon verbena hand lotion in obscene and unforgettable ways.
The lines between loathing and lusting are quickly blurred and it's not too long before we're both left wondering if hate is the only thing growing for us. But I need to win the contest just as much as he does because winning puts my dreams within reach and I'm not going to let anything stand in my way.
There's just one problem. From his roses to his obsession with baby's breath, the only thing I hate about my former number one enemy is how much I want him to be mine...forever.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019YESSS and a million more time yes! Now that's what I'm talking about if I want enemies to lovers. All the anger filled hate sex and the tension between David and Luis ahhh!
I loved this book so much! The story was unique, i mean flowerists? The book was full with many flowers and with all the anger, ahh just perfect! I couldn't put it down.
And the lemon verbena LOL! Luis was so cute, strong, clever and his sight for the flowers was awesome. I feel the whole flower thing as Luis - everyone and everything is just old and they fear the change. But not Luis!
David on the other hand- i loved his tenacity for his way with the flowers, how he used to do everything, and he was strong and persistent.
It was perfect and amazing, loved the connection between David and Luis - aka Cranston and Montgomery. And the love between them was so sweet.
Hihgly recomennd it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2021Hmmm... it took me a while to warm up to either MC. I liked what little we ‘saw’ of David in the previous books but, when I got his story, he acted like a crusty old man. Of course that could be the fact that we meet David when Luis meets him and they clash from the start. Luis was too cocky for his own good but, only when he was around David. David was an old-fashioned grump but, only around Luis! Once their personalities came out when away from each other, I liked them.
Their encounters were filled with animosity bordering on passion. While still believing they hated each other, things did get sexual a couple of times and eventually (about 3/4 through the book, they realized they no longer hated each other.
Well written. Overall, I did enjoy this one more than FGB.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2019There are moments in this story when the conflict overpowers any hint of relationship. Coupled with two characters who were not very appealing, those moments made me wonder why I was still reading. Luis and David do eventually get there but I found the degree of anger each expressed was questionable. Minor character development and while the love was slow build, the anger unexplainably was instant.
The story ends well which was expected.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2019My favorite fictional vineyard and my favorite trope of all time? Yes, please.
David and Luis are rival florists, David set in more traditional arrangements, while Luis has a fresh, new perspective and way of doing things. It makes for lots of tension and scathing comments on floral arrangements, things I didn't know I needed in my life. When I say tension I mean tension. So much that when it finally explodes into angry kissing I clapped and squealed.
Thanks to a traditionalist mother, and two grooms who want unique, fresh looks, David and Luis get pulled together to work on the same wedding at Mallory. Which leads to locked doors, knocked over flowers, and the best angry kissing I've ever read. Their success on the wedding has them becoming contestants in a competition that could change the direction of both their careers—and possibly their relationship.
What's worse than having to compete against your enemy? Having to share not only a room with him but a bed. Forced proximity makes for an interesting weekend. Like, hate sex over the bathroom counter using lotion as lube. The book could have ended there and I would have been happy. Hate sex is the best thing ever and that scene was everything I wanted it to be and more. These two authors are known for their hot and heavy, yet emotionally charged sex scenes. And they did not disappoint in this book. Though the only thing I will say about the hate sex is there was no spanking and I feel robbed. There was a lot of thinking about spanking on David's part and not enough action, sadly. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the hell out of the explosions that come with hate sex.
I think, what I loved most, besides the hate sex and angry kisses, was the flowers. Not because the characters were florists by trade, but because of what those flowers meant to them. For David, they were his family legacy, his way of life. For Luis, they were a new direction in life. For both of them, they were the starting point into finding their happy ending.
The transition from enemies to lovers is a tricky one, not everyone can pull it off, can make it believable. I had no doubts that these two authors would be able to do it. When each character realizes that it's not hate they feel, but something else, it's precious. Watching them figure out what to do with each other now that they don't have hate to fall back on is sweet.
In the end, enemies to lovers books have been ruined for me because this book was everything I love and then some. I am so glad we got to go back to Mallory and hope that there's more in the future because I love it and these two write magic books together.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2024Book Review: Future Ex Enemy
Synopsis: David Cranston is a third-generation florist who loves his traditional arrangements, and when Luis Montgomery waltzes into town with his modern take on arranging - they immediately butt heads. They have to get through working together on a wedding and competing in a floral arranging competition while somehow getting along, but there’s more to their frustration with each other than just their competing design styles.
Review: I’ve read a lot of rivals-to-lovers but WOW David and Luis REALLY hate each other lol. There were so many times I really thought to myself “wow he is such a jerk”. I really didn’t see how this was going to end up as a romance because they were such jerks to each other haha. It goes to show that the opposite of hate isn’t love, it’s indifference.
I enjoyed the age gap, the fighting, and the sexual tension in this book. They go from hate-fighting to hate-loving in .02 seconds in this book, which makes sense, but I prefer books where it’s more of a transition from hate-to-love versus it just being flipped. However I think that’s more my personal preference. Also I do need to shout out how much I loved daddy David, damn. The spice in this book really scratched that itch. If you love angsty rivals to lovers this is for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ending made up for the beginning
This book took forever to engage me. I don’t know if enemies to lovers just isn’t my thing anymore, but the ending made this completely worth while for me. I found the dialogue to be slightly forced, and just didn’t make much sense. Otherwise I enjoyed it again, because of the ending.
