A Gentleman's Revenge: A Regency Romance (The Spinsters Guild Book 3) Kindle Edition
Sent to London in order to take care of her aunt and help her cousin to make her debut, she has no hope for her own future. It is only when Miss Bavidge introduces her to Lady Smithton that she finally starts to believe that she might be able to have a life of her own. Unfortunately, most of her time is taken up accompanying her cousin, Miss Sophia Marks. Much to her shame, Sarah finds herself becoming greatly interested in one of her cousin’s suitors, Lord Daniel Ruddington. He is quiet and retiring, barely smiles and seems to carry a great weight on his shoulders but she is still drawn to him. Lord
Daniel Ruddington has no-one he can turn to. Pretending that he is nothing more than a gentleman enjoying London society, he hides a great secret and a furious anger within his heart as he attempts to further his acquaintance with Miss Sophia Marks. However, his gaze is so often drawn to her companion, her quiet, kind nature contrasting with his determination for revenge. Will he be able to take his revenge? Or will Miss Crosby be the one to stop him?
This book is the third book of a series called The Spinsters Guild, a group of unusual ladies who are almost “on the shelf”. Can Lady Emily help them find their perfect match?

Review
The characters are wonderfully written and the story line is great. You don't need to read the first two books, although it does help with some of the character identification.
Another great book in a great series. I'm really enjoying these books. They seem to just keep getting better.
This is another wonderful book by an author who knows how to touch our hearts. Always a great story line, this one is no exception. The pacing is perfect, and the characters are intriguing - not always the ones we love, but definitely described to make an impression!
I enjoyed this Spinsters Guild romance that kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end with great characters and a well-written story I couldn't put down.

About the author

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021A Gentleman's Revenge continues Rose Pearson's series that tackles the prejudices of the "ton" in Regency England and it's effects on women. I really like the twist Rose presents in this novel, where those outside society's norm set the "beau monde" on their collective "arses" ! In a Gentleman's Revenge, another member of the so-called Spinsters Guild, gets her chance at romance. Once again Rose Pearson's development of her main character's transformation from a weak mouse to a women who recognizes her worth, is very well done. Her description of the period, the events and people encountered is like a trip through time. Like good fiction is meant to do, A Gentleman's Revenge provided a welcome escape from my daily tasks. It was a lovely respite. Add a cup of tea and a roaring fire and the lovely interlude is complete.
I recommend you pick up this novel as well as the rest of the series. It is not your normal Regency romance; it's better!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2021Even though I figured out why the H was lying I still enjoyed most of the story. I have said many times how I dislike stories where secrets are kept. This one was kept through 90% of the book. As he finally confesses his reason, you understand what drove him. Still doesn't make it right, but I forgave him somewhat.
This is a clean story only kisses at the end. I was disappointed how the story just ends abruptly. If ever a story cried for an epilogue it is this one. I wanted to know how did the cousin react when the H/h declared their love. Did anyone confront the cousin's father?
No cheating, HEA, little on romance and clean. The story ends at the 90% mark on my e-reader. Rest is blurb for the next in the series. (ljb)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2021Leaving the mystery of why the hero was so stubborn in pursuing someone he did not want until the very end was annoying, not suspenseful. Plus, too much endless thinking and thinking by characters mulling their thoughts back and forth. More dialogue and action needed. Also, long discussion of where to search, what to do; when a crisis is at hand, not credulous. People act quickly in a crisis, they don’t blather on about the best choices. Thankfully no ridiculous and un-needed sex scenes. We already know they’re attracted to each other so those are a waste of paper and ink. Characters somewhat interesting, but leaving the mystery out missed many opportunities for the author to delve into the hero’s past and create a sympathy for his plight; instead, I found him bland and unappealing, shallow. More scenes, dialogue with others, and plot twists illustrating the heroine’s change from a shrinking nobody to a confident person were needed, she comes off as vapid and wishy-washy.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020Sarah Crosby, the daughter of a titled gentleman, considers herself to be plain and not of good figure and blends herself into the woodwork as a companion for her flirty cousin. She meets a gentleman she likes at a ball (Lord Ruddington), but who overlooks her completely because he is more interested in her cousin. Lady Smithton, who wants to assist Sarah in getting the attention of Lord Ruddington, gives Sarah some tips on how to get Lord Ruddington's attention and bolster her courage. But Lord Ruddington, though he believes he's falling for Sarah, has a secret scheme to exact revenge on Lord Britton, the father of Sarah's cousin, which entails getting his daughter to fall for him. What a tangled web of deceit was woven in this unusual story, holding my attention from beginning to end.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2023I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It epitomizes the fact that two wrongs don't make a right. Even more touching was that those wronged chose to forgive even though the perpetrators felt no consequences. The ending is lovely, albeit slightly abrupt. I think this story would have benefitted if it had an epilogue or a little more on how things played out beyond the last scene. Still worth reading though.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2019I really enjoyed this book. The hero is basically a good guy but he is shown throughout the book conflicted about his ongoing actions. The heroine is an insecure wallflower with a good friend helping her bloom.
I took away a little quarter star because it got very wordy with far too much conversation in my opinion. The hero gives a pretty speech that I personally didn't care for.
All in all, though, I thought the writing was excellent and highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2022By the time I was halfway through A Gentleman's Revenge, I found myself wishing I had marked every time the word "murmured" was used. Honestly, that should be the title of this book. Sadly, I started paying more attention to the use of "murmured " than to the story. Daniel and Sarah's story is very sweet, but I think at least one more good edit is still needed.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2021I enjoy Regency romances, both the 'clean' and sensuous. Aside from lack of historical context of rules, etiquette of accepting gifts, single ladies and gentlemen exchanging correspondence (huge no unless engaged or family), the guy keeps telling her to look for him at parties, references to the female to court the man...it's jyst not believable..
This doesn't seem romantic, just a jumble of stringing out secret motives of a 'gentleman's 'revenge by a false engagement, a 'spinster' with one seasons experience guiding her flirty and flighty spoiled cousin (really dislike the mean girl characters) and a benefactress whose motives are never explained (again, the poor drab cousin who accepts expensive couture gowns turns dazzling yet not remarked upon by family?)...read 108 of 189 pages in Kindle before calling it 2 hours of my life never to get back. I chose poorly. There are good books out there, this is not one of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sarah and Daniel
Miss Sarah Crosby is already considered a spinster and has little to no hope of finding a husband. She has come to London for a season as a companion to her cousin, Sophia Marks. The story begins with her being dressed in unattractively so that no attention is given to her at all and she had no self worth nor confidence. While in London she met Miss Bavidge and became good friends. Miss Bavidge introduced her to Lady Smithton who created the "Spinster's Guild" At a ball attending to her cousin, she bumped into (literally!) Lord Daniel Ruddington. There was a connection between them. That connection changed when Daniel wanted to be introduced to her cousin, Miss Marks. He then pursues Miss Sophia Marks but it becomes apparent that his motive is not love. Mrs. Smithton guesses that Sarah is attracted to Ruddington and convinces her that she has as much right to attract the gentleman as does Sophia. so with a little makeover and a large boost to her confidence. This is a slow burn romance, and the part of it i enjoyed was how Sarah's confidence grew so that she was able to stand up to her cousin! This is such an entertaining story and i throughly enjoyed reading it! All of the characters are well developed, including the supporting characters. Lady Smithton continues her role as mentor to the spinsters who have come to her for assistance in finding love and happiness. I can’t wait to read the next installment! Even though part of a series it can be read as a standalone (but soooo much better to read them all!! :) ) Highly recommend this book and the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read
Sarah Crosby's and Nathaniel Ruddington's story. What a sad existence Sarah lived, not only did she feel physically at a disadvantage to her young cousin, Miss Marks whom she was supposed to be companion to, she was also treated as an inferior person despite being of the same social rank as her cousin. When Sarah met Lord Ruddington she was enamoured by him,but he w a s intent on courting Miss Marks, with the help of Lady Smithton Sarah gained confidence and stood up for herself, I cheered when she put little Miss Marks in her place, and Lord Ruddington came to his senses.
The book was well written and a very enjoyable read I would thoroughly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, although
This is a clean book to read, with a nice plot but it ended at what I felt was three quarters of the way through the story. If all the ramifications of the story had been taken to the end, it would have been a much more satisfying read.
For example one lady gets asked to elope, she says yes,but he changes his mind, the the same man tells that lady’s cousin that he loves her, and not the one he wanted to elope with. And yet there is nothing told of the ramifications of this! How the First Lady or the cousin felt and what came of it all. It’s absurd really to think a story can be ended like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it 💘💘💘
Daniel and Sara. Really lovely story Daniel has a job to do and it involves Sara's cousin a spoilt young lady, but he did not expect to fall in love with Sara, he was determined to carry out his plan knowing how much it will destroy and chance of a relationship with her, but nothing will stop him. OR WILL IT.
