4.4 out of 5 stars 1,045 ratings

When a reclusive psychic shows up looking for Jude Byrne in his adopted hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, the private investigator’s walls go up instantly. Psychic or not, this mysterious man knows secrets about Jude’s past that are better left buried in the New Mexico desert. Stranger still is the personality change that comes over the flirty P.I. after he meets the newcomer.

Psychic Copeland Forbes is a man on the edge. The once popular and well-respected medium has lived in seclusion since an attack by a former student has shaken his confidence in his abilities. Sickened by an ailment no doctor can diagnose, he travels from his home in Louisiana to seek out the one man he believes he can help him, if the rumors are true.

Faced with an enemy possessing powers greater than either man has ever faced alone, will Jude and Copeland decide to work together to defeat this dark magick? Or will both men continue on as they are now, ghosts of themselves?

Sick of the slogging rat-race of her 9-5 job, Pandora Pine put pen to paper (literally!) to make her ambition of becoming a romance novelist a reality. She cut her teeth in the dog-eat-dog world of fan fiction, still dreaming of the day when she would be a published author.

In her spare time, Pandora fancies herself an amateur nature photographer. She enjoys mucking around in swamps, hiking through the woods and crawling around on her hands and knees in her backyard seeking out the perfect shot. Pandora is a fan of roadside seafood shacks and always thinks Mexican food is a good idea at the time.

Some of Pandora’s favorite things are chocolate, writing longhand with purple pens, and handsome men falling in love with each other.

One very important information the publisher doesn’t say in the description of this book, is that even though this is the first book in the series (Haunted Souls) this is a spin-off series from the Cold Case Psychic series. While the book is ok (I think it is rated 3.5 stars), it is also a big characters reunion. I was astounded by the amount of characters mentioned in the book, in a way that presupposes you already know them. Since I didn’t know them, I didn’t really care that one couple “has three kids now” or that “they are expecting a baby due on Valentine’s Day”. Once it became obvious that there was more history that I probably should know, I discovered that the Cold Case Psychic series has (at the time of this review) 21 books - no wonder there are so many characters.
Because of this reunion (and many get-togethers/parties), the characters special to this story are not very well developed - Jude, in my opinion, has a big problem with anger management since it seems like everybody has to be very careful around him, otherwise he explodes. I thought him a particularly unpleasant, boring and lacking in the humor department, and I couldn’t think of why anybody would be interested in him.
I might try the original series, but I was not very impressed with this series.

A man for Jude, that says it all! A man who can tame the sexy and dangerous man of steel. The secretive Jude is willing to talk about his past and present if that means keeping one Copeland (Cope) Forbes safe and in his life. My heart bleeds doe the pain and trauma that Jude deals with every day.

In crawls Cope, abused and near death. He is in need of help from a psychic attack that is killing him. The immediate and powerful attraction that is overwhelming both of them is something neither of them are prepared for. Cope is used to following his instincts and does so here. As the two powerhouses stick together. with the help of the gang, they work their way through the dangerous and deadly game someo w is playing.

I'd you enjoy danger and drama this is the book for you. Well written with mature characters yet with Ms Pine's skill you will be hooked.

Magic, mystery, intrigue and so much more. I have been impatiently waiting for more insight and understanding about Jude and this book exceeded my expectations. The writing was terrific and the story-line kept me glued to my kindle all day. What a delightful read!!!

Jude and Cope are developing a very special connection, one that is a real slow burn. i am looking forward to these guys really connecting and finding themselves with each other. i also loved that we got to see all of the special characters that we have grown to love from the Cold Case Psychic series.

This is the first book in this new spin-off series Haunted Souls and i cannot wait for the next one!!

Note: This is a spin-off series. I had no idea. There is nothing in the details anywhere that says it's a spin-off series. I only realized this as I was reading it, because there were too many characters I got the sense I was supposed to know.

While I absolutely do not mind having a huge cast of characters, I will admit that this series felt rather chaotic to me. I couldn't figure out if it was a spin-off or not, but even then, I felt I was still enjoying the plotline enough to follow through with it. We have a host of characters that are magical: psychic, wizards, a ghost, a Navajo healer, etc. I absolutely adored that. I also adored the set up, with one of our MCs arriving half-dead on the doorstep of the other MCs. That being said, the lead up of the stakes lead to absolutely no pay-off whatsoever and a lot of the way they acted felt super strange to me. The main MCs had never met and yet were acting like they'd known each other for years. It was hard to square away. But I was most disappointed with the climactic event and so I'm not sure if I'll continue this series.

Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time?
    No.

See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book

CHARACTERS: This book is jam packed with characters and nearly all of them don't get descriptions: you're supposed to simply know who they are and the massive extended family and all the relationships between them. NI was able to work with it although it wasn't ideal. Of the two main characters, Copeland and Jude, I struggled with how their relationship was meant to work out. Copeland I'm assuming hadn't really been introduced before, so we got the most fleshed out characterization from him. Jude had enough of a backstory that, while I could glean what he was like, confused me when it came to their relationship. Copeland and Jude acted as though they'd known each other forever yet it was only three days. Even in the middle of stating that, it would be a strange discrepancy that made no sense to me: "They'd known each other three days" and the next sentence would be Copeland commenting about how he "knew" that this wasn't how Jude normally acted. Uh. Ok? I enjoyed them as characters, which was enough to keep me reading, so there's that!

PLOT Famous psychic Copeland ended up pissing off someone who psychically attacks him. The only way to save himself is to go to Salem and find Jude and co. A lot of it is "just things they know" because of their gifts. Jude instantly attaches to him like super glue even though it goes against everything he usually is. The two of them end up working together (with the massive host of other characters), to save Copeland and prepare for the major showdown when his assailant comes into town and confronts him. In the end, they find out who it is and... well it's over in the blink of an eye. Somewhere in there Jude and Copeland apparently develop some feelings for each other, but most of the plot doesn't really involve a romance (which I don't mind). Ultimately, the set up is brilliant and then the execution fizzles and dies, leaving us with no pay-off.

EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.

2:5/low. The potential was there, especially with the stakes as high as they are at the beginning, but sadly it never rises. Too much is packed in with too many sudden switches in character actions that feel like getting hit in the face with a wet fish.

CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?

0%. If you'd asked me if the climactic event would be negligible based on the lead up from the rest of the book, I would have vehemently said there was no way. However, in all seriousness, the 'final battle' felt like Cope realized who was hurting him, got pissed, snapped his fingers, and then the antagonist just said "ok" and left. I literally blinked and couldn't believe what I'd just read. After all the anticipation, there was absolutely no pay-off. I was truly shocked.

This is a good start to this series. It was good to have old and new friends & family show up to help figure out what is happening to Cope. The ending was a little anticlimactic though. I'm still interested in how things will go with Jude & Copeland's first real case together.

I have been looking forward to this book since Jude’s first “smirk” in Dead Ringer! I am in love with Jude! This book is so good! This book answers so many questions. I don’t want to go into detail - no spoilers from me! I’ll say it again tho - this is a great book. It has all our friends plus it has Jude!
We also meet Copeland in this book. I hope we see more of his friend Onyx! He reminds me of someone with his dating habits!
This is the beginning of a great series. Can’t wait! (More Jude!). Pandora Pine has done it again!!

When psychic witch Copeland Forbes comes under a sustained psychic attack he knows where to go courtesy of a couple of ghosts. He has to go to Salem and find Jude Byrne.

He arrives on Tennyson and Ronan's doorstop half dead and is only saved by the healing skills of Jude. But this is only the beginning of a rollercoaster ride for Jude and his friends.

Who wants Cope dead? How do you stop someone you can't see? If Jude can't work out the answer to these questions and more, it won't just be Cope in the madman's sight, it could be all of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Free Kindle Unlimited story from Pandora Pine, but there are spoilers from some of the Novellas that would have made more sense if I read them first. Fortunately this didn't detract from the plot.

These guys are amazing each and every time I read a new book. Jude was an enigma, but here he is starting to open up, all due to Copeland. The plot was awesome. Lots of magic, suspense, drama and a final confrontation. It's always great to revisit all my favourite characters. Looking forward to the next book.

I enjoyed the read, great storytelling, I was utterly and completely engrossed. I thoroughly enjoy a good paranormal read. Loved the characters, not totally comfortable with the relationship angle but that's on a personal level and does not detract from the books enjoyment.

I liked Ghost of Himself a lot.......right up until the baddie turned up and the big-showdown-that-never-was. I couldn't help but feel that everything was in place for something epic, then it all just seemed to fizzle out. The "baddie" was a huge let down for me and his reason for what he was doing was weak to say the least. Aside from that, it was a very good book and I'm looking forward to reading more Jude and Copeland adventures!
