- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2018In the past, I have read books by Tom Clancy, and other military / CIA / Spy authors and became so bored and bogged down with minute details about the military equipment like submarines, ships, aircraft, etc. that I just gave up and quit reading the book! His books are excellent!! One thing I appreciate is that he doesn't spew an obscene amount of facts and details about the aircraft in his books to the point you wonder, "What in the hell happened to the plot?" Instead, he tells you just enough to understand the plot and the action scenes in the book. Also, just when you think you have figured out what will happen next, he throws a curve ball, and it's never what you would expect. I love this! I have read each and every one of his books and have lost count how many times my mouth has literally dropped open because I am shocked at all the twist and turns he writes into his books. HE IS VERY UNDERATED IN THE THRILLER GENRE! Also, he gives you background info. on the characters in the books so you don't feel like you've been thrown in to the middle of the book, Which I very much appreciate! The background info. helps you understand why the characters respond in the way they do. It makes the book come more alive, like the characters are your friends or foes. Another awesome thing he does is take the time to write a few paragraphs and recap the previous book in the series. He is a great writer! I am so disappointed when his books end and at the same time I can't wait until the next book comes out. It's amazing to me that some of the thriller authors are considered "the best in the thriller genre" when they don't hold a candle to Andrew Watts.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2017First off let me say I haven't read the book yet but am excited to do so! Second being an Amazon Unlimited user I could have just read it for 'free', but I like Andrew Watts's writing stye and his stories. I have read everything that he has published thus far and have even had the pleasure of chatting with him via eMail. An Author can't make a living just giving away his writings and I want to see him be super successful. And lastly, after I read the book, I will come back and give an honest review, but without the "spoiler" type that is most often written.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018Glidepath, by Andrew Watts, who is a relatively new author, is a "breath of fresh air". His characters come alive in a fast moving story about industrial espionage, air piracy, and aviation suspense. Charles Fend and his company, Fend Aerospace developed a commercial passenger jet that is unique in that it was controlled and flown by artificial intelligence, not the conventional pilot. After all tests were completed successfully, the aircraft was to make its first flight five days later. But, as the reader might surmise, the antagonist, Pavel Morozo, a Russian businessman and crook, had other plans for the aircraft. These plans include taking control of the computers and flying the passenger aircraft into the Russian President over the Atlantic, as he approaches the US for a G -8 Summit. Morozo thinks he can then emerge as a candidate to be the new Russian President.
Morozo's main obstacle in the story is Charles's son Max Fend, who has some experience as a CIA operative. He enlists his former girlfriend, a computer whiz, and they attempt to find out who is behind the plot to down his fathers aircraft. Now that Morozo knows that Max out to prove the truth, the action heats up as the Fend Airliner is hijacked. With the help of the FBI, Max is almost killed as he zeros in on the truth. Their is a series of twists and turns as a major disaster is narrowly avoided.
Glidepath is an entertaining read that will keep your interest and for this reason, I award it five solid stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2020I was glad to see this author go in the direction of a series character but as much as I like the story line and the authors commitment to detailed story telling, I was left unimpressed with the max character and the Renee character. Max in my option did not have a commanding presence. He did not capture me like a Mitch Rapp or a Jack Reacher character. A d his past resume did not lend itself to a person that could actually engage a d win against a tier one operator, there should have been better character development. In my option Max is not in their league. I will read the next book to see how he develops button not very optimistic I can see him in the same light as the other characters in this genera.

The characters for the most part were enjoyable, but pretty stereotyped. This was ok, since I was in the mood for a good yarn, not morality play. In the end, I don't mind recommending this book to others. It was fun, quick and held my interest.
One quick observation regarding the use of AI in aircraft. This is nolonger the stuff os SiFi dreamers. It's closer than most people think.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2017What a good book. You need to read this one. I honestly put Mr. Watts up there with nearly all of my other favorites, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Mark Greaney, Ted Bell, Kyle Mills, Lee Child, Daniel Sylva, Joel Rosenburg, etc. I had read his other book(s) "The War Planners" and absolutely loved it (them.) Sadly, I read them as they came out one at a time so it was more like an old fashioned serial for me but I heartily recommend that you read it, too, but as one book.
This book kept my interest from the get go and never led me astray. I thought I had figured out the plot a few times and then he'd take another turn and make me have to guess again. That's a good thing. And the length is good, too, without too much of that "filler" that so many authors have to put in for their books to be over 300 pages. I work out on an elliptical-type machine for 60-90 minutes a day and read my Kindle. I can usually tell how good a book is by how quickly the time passes while reading it. This book kept my attention so well that the time just flew by! I can't wait for the next episode of Max Fend to see where Mr. Watts takes him again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Technically accurate, thrilling and fun to read...
This is my first book by this author. I found the book to be a real page turner -technically accurate, thrilling and fun to read. I really enjoyed the Max Fend adventure "Glidepath" and look forward to many more in this series.
The characters were well developed and interesting. I especially liked that Charles and Max had a good father/son relationship. His family and background make for an interesting mix that makes this international intelligence novel a thriller.
If you want a fast moving story with many twists and turns then “Glidepath” will not disappoint. It kept me wondering who was behind all of the betrayal and I was completely surprised by the ending. Max Fend is a character that I hope to hear more from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glidepath, by Andrew Watts
Glidepath, by Andrew Watts.
Max Fend and his French Canadian girlfriend Renée are memorable characters, and I hope to see more of them, not least because Watts is one of the few American authors who realizes there is another country to the north of the US. It's called Canada. It's a strong ally of the US when that country cares to acknowledge it, and it, too, has a spy agency called CSE (Communications Security Esablishment) which plays a major role in this novel.
This book was a first Andrew Watts read for me, and I found it fascinating. It's filled with a wealth of detail about AI aviation, and coming trends in commercial flight. It's also a rollicking, and sometimes terrifying spy and intrigue novel filled with Russian baddies and ruthless Spetsnaz killers.
I found it a cracking good read, and one that kept me on edge throughout the book. Watts, because of his background in naval aviation, is a mine of information about the world of flight, as well as an author aware of the often conflicting bureaucratic realities in his country. His depiction of the conflicts between the FBI, DIA, and CIA as the plot moves on, seems real and likely. And there is always the suspicion that the person you trust is, in reality, a dual agent. Always keeps you guessing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Fabulous story. Very complex with lots of twists and turns. The more I read it the more I wanted to read. It reads like an action adventure book but with the plot of a very good thriller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable spy thriller
I enjoyed this tale of espionage and intrigue. I have no idea if all the exploits of the protagonists stack up in the real world of spooks, but this story seemed plausible enough..Some nice touches of humour and a good fast moving plot.
