The God Sun: A Cosmic Horror Novelette (The Augment Saga) Kindle Edition
The ISF Althaemenes was the first of its kind. A spacecraft capable of travelling the vast distances to other stars. But on its maiden voyage to Proxima Centauri, all contact was lost and its crew never returned.
Four years later, the United Earth Confederacy received the ship’s distress signal.
Captain Helene Cross and the crew of the ISF Apemosyne are sent to determine what happened, and if possible, rescue the wayward explorers. However, there is no response from the crew and the mystery deepens when scans show that the supposedly stranded vessel is in full working order, leaving Helene and her team no other choice but to board and investigate. Soon, a maddening presence begins to stalk their minds, influencing their actions, threatening their very survival.
The crew of the Apemosyne must discover the source of the madness and put an end to it if they are to have any hope of escape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brutal, bloody and disturbing
Brutal, bloody and disturbing, The God Sun by Alan K Dell may be a short read, but it definitely makes an impact. The story follows the crew of the Apemosyne, a spacecraft on a rescue mission to find the surviving crew members of the ISF Althaemenes ,a ship which went dark while on its maiden voyage to Proxima Centauri four years before. Unsure of what to expect when they reach the missing ship Captain Cross and her crew remain hopeful but what greets them when they finally arrive is both mysterious and terrifying.
This is a tense read and I am impressed by how well the author builds that tension in such a short book. Though we only get brief sketches of the characters it is enough for the reader to care about them and the dangers they are about to face. I don't want to spoil the ending so all I will say is that I loved that it left potential to expand on this story in the future.
If you are looking for a short horror read set in space this might just scratch that itch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery and intrigue
The suspense from start to finish was brilliant. I didn’t know who was going to be the guilty one, until the very end. I had suspicions the whole way through but kept changing my mind. Brilliant read, well written. 100% recommend! Happy reading!
