Good Vibes: A Sapphic Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 300 ratings

An eccentric adult shop owner. An agoraphobic game collector. A romantic comedy about finding love and self-acceptance in the strangest places.

The little details have never interested Libby. From her eclectic style to her carefree attitude about her adult toy shop, she’s all about the big picture. But when her business partner retires, Libby’s safety net disappears and it’s up to her to sink or swim.

For old-school card game nerd Theo, the details are everything. Her anxiety demands to know the rules, the players and the goal in any situation, and it can be hard to even leave her apartment unless she knows exactly what’s coming her way.

When Theo’s sister gets engaged, she’s forced out of her comfort zone and into Libby’s shop on the hunt for bachelorette party supplies.

Opposites attract and Theo is drawn into Libby’s chaotic world. She wants to help Libby save the shop and together they come up with a plan, but will they be brave enough to play the game of love?

ARC Review of Good Vibes
Cara Malone has out done herself with her first Romantic Comedy. Where she has Theo an Agoraphobic Card Game collector who meets Libby an Eccentric Adult Toy Shop owner. Libby has little business sense when it comes to numbers and when her business partner plans to retire she worries that her shop might just go under. She meets Theo who comes in looking for bachelorette party supplies for her sister who just got engaged. Not knowing how one would deal with her Agoraphobic tendency's she tries to push Libby away, but then she offers her business knowledge to help Libby so she doesn't loose her shop. Can these two just be friends or will Theo move past her fear of the outside world and join Libby in her chaotic world of prides and sexy cons. Will Libby be able to handle the panic attacks and being walked away from or are they both pushing for too much too fast?

There is so much to say about this book. It's sexy and fun, for sure. But it's also a really great, relatable portrait of what living with anxiety is like and the very real and frustrating struggles a person goes through just trying to leave the house and pursue the life they want. Cara Malone balances the good times with the struggles in a very realist way. The characters develop as individuals and as a couple at a pace that makes sense for their situation. And when things begin to develop too quickly for one, respectful dialog brings things back on track in a safe way. I loved how the characters opened up when they were ready and they were patient with each other to allow that comfort to develop. Even when they didn't always understand each other, they were willing to talk it through. It showed great maturity in the characters, but also in the author. Too often little misunderstandings become cataclysmic in fiction and it can turn the reader off. But the author didn't fall into that trap with this book. She also respectfully approached and portrayed anxiety in a believable way without portraying the character as completely "useless" as so many others do when trying to write characters who deal with these struggles. I don't want to give spoilers, but it was nice to see the success each character is able to achieve in the end.

A fun and sort of more grounded version of the "manic pixie dream girl" scenario, with an added wrinkle of the other character having agoraphobia. As someone with an anxiety disorder I felt like it was handled respectfully and genuinely, and worked well as a driver for the plot and their relationship without making her whole personality just a disorder.

Sex is moderate and fairly steamy but not very close to the dividing line into erotica (not that there's anything wrong with that).

There's so much in this story that's really awesome, and then there's also the playful very sexy romp these characters explore thoroughly. But the main character with anxiety issues is handled so well, I really appreciate how enlightening it is about this condition. I especially love it when I can enjoy a story on multiple levels. This is one of those stories.

Theo and Libby take a unexpected kind of journey together. They are opposites in many ways but a chance meeting with a little roommate push opens up a connection. The author handle Theo's agoraphobia in such a gentle, understanding way helping educate the reader as well. Libby has a very outgoing personality but stills struggles with abandoning/trust issues. Together they support unconditioally even when each is struggling to reach a better level together. Their growth and commitment to each other is beautiful. I ambit the whole sex shop foundation had me struggling bue sexual empowerment is important for women in general and this story did that so well. Libby's relationship with her Mom was a treat in this often phobia like world. I loved the characters and the story was so well done.

Alright, there isn't a thing I didn't like about these fragile MC's. One character was so outside the box she was in a box, another who couldn't get outta her box even if she had directions. Both ended up becoming one another's maps and the adventure was divine. Small waves early on, but nothing arduous. It's a quick read and just a lot of fun and happy feels. Definitely a pick me up and curl up on the couch and cuddle kinda vibe throughout:) Devilishly enjoyable smut abounded.

Theo is a nerdy, numbers woman and card game lover with an anxiety problem. She hates leaving her apartment and rarely does so. When her sister announces her engagement, Theo’s roommate, Andie, drags her off to a sex shop to look at bachelorette supplies but the beautiful woman with the wild hair is what Theo would rather look at… Libby has a sense of style all her own, from the clothes she makes to wear to the various colours on her head, even her place of business is a bit out of the norm. Libby owns Good Vibes but is about to be in trouble because her partner is retiring and she will need to go it alone. That’s all well and good but she has no clue how to run the shop on a day in day out basis… what she really needs is someone to help her…

This is a fun little book in spite of the anxiety that rules Theo. I loved watching Theo and Libby form a friendship and watching it grow into something much deeper and intense. It did get off to a slow start, in my opinion, but it got better. There was a lot for Theo to overcome and Libby was there every step of the way. They made a great couple, really playing off the other’s strengths, not willing to let fear stand in the way. There were lots of lovely sexy bits to make the story even better too! I enjoyed the read and the characters very much and was glad I took the time with this book.

Libby and Theo were friends. Theo has anxiety problems and just works from her apartment. Libby also has problems as her father abandoned her family when she was young. The plot revolves around how about Libby and Theo help each other with their emotional problems and find love. I recommend this book for all who like a good love story.

Just love these characters and the way they evolved both individually and as a couple throughout the story. The setting of an adult shop was a great change and certainly allowed for a lot of cheekiness to find its way into the story. Can’t wait for your next release.

Yet another fantastic story from Cara Malone. In this story the two main characters are like chalk and cheese one is very outgoing and confident while the other is diffident and withdrawn and suffers from anxiety attacks. As time goes on they find that they are good for each other. This was a really good love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good Rom Com that works
Reviewed in Canada on December 9, 2024
In this standalone by Cara Malone Theo is struggling with her agoraphobia and her sisters wedding plans which push her out of her safe space and ultimately into Good Vibes run by Libby. Libby was good for Theo and I loved the humour! Despite the fact the book centres around Libby learning how to run her adult toy store by herself and helping Theo deal with her mental heath issue, there is actually not that much on page sex. I connected with Theo and her struggles with a anxiety health problem. It is a great escapism with divers characters. The side characters were nice and helped even it all out. Recommended reading for people who are not sure they will enjoy a Rom-Com book or those who like Sapphic reads.

I had an absolute blast reading this book. It was fun and lighthearted, while also taking care to give a proper amount of attention to agoraphobia and anxiety and how someone might process those feelings and thoughts.

Where can I find self love pins? I’d wear those everywhere!
