A child'sA-Z of Caribbean items!♥♥♥ with NEW BONUS EXTRAS: FREE COLOURFUL & MUSICAL Caribbean A-Z VIDEO & downloadable colouring sheets!

Do you come from the Caribbean or Guyana?

Would you like to teach your preschool/nursery-age son or daughter their ABC using items from 'back home'? With Granny JJ's Caribbean A-Z you can teach your child their letters and share some of your life and culture from the comfort of your living room.
Some of our children grew up there, and we decided that ABC didn't need to be APPLE. BEACH BALL, and CAT!

So, we’ve picked 26 features of Caribbean life so that you can teach your little one using objects YOU grew up around. There’s so much space for fun, and laughter to create Attention, Bonding and Culture!

Includes:
  • 26 colourful island picture-items which creates anABC ofAttention, Bonding and Cuddles!
  • 3 x Colouring pages inside the book
  • Downloadable A-Z music video
  • Downloadable 26 colouring sheets of all the items in the book
I don't know about you but we have found that our your excitement and personal stories will enchant them.

So... A is not always for Apple!

Well, yes, we did make 'A is for ANT'. But those red ants bite, right? And I’m sure you’ve woken up in your bed once or twice with dead ones that bit you before you rolled on them.

How often have you bought Water coconuts from the side of the road, seen the man slice it with a cutlass, and pop in a straw. Ohhhh! So fresh, cool and delicious on a hot day! Z is for Zinc: the sound of the rain on the zinc was deafening, but it could put you to sleep at night! Older children who hear will want to hear your stories – “Mum, the ants come into your bed? Really?”“You drank from a coconut?”
Pop over to Youtube and play them the sounds of rain on a zinc roof. We used to put our little one to bed with that sometimes!
And Granny JJ? She's a smart, sassy and spiritual Granny who goes around the towns and villages solving mysteries in Guyana. But she always has time for her grandpicknies!
If you want to look for older children - you can see her four adventure books (for 11+) if you search Amazon under 'Granny JJ Adventures'. This year the Guyanese Government thought they were so good, they bought hundreds for the children over there to read in school.
So, please enjoy these brightly coloured Caribbean items, and leave a review to help others decide to buy.
Scroll up, press buy, and we'll get it shipped to you (but not in a drum this time!)

Granny JJ's Caribbean A-Z: Teach Your Children the ABC of Caribbean Culture by Joshua Cartwright is so much more than the normal American pre-school alphabet picture book. Not only can your children learn the letters, but they will also be exposed to the culture of the Caribbean.

As you read the alphabet to your child, you will also be able to discuss the Caribbean way of life, including things like coconuts, steel drums, and even green oranges. Too many Americans are ethnocentric and know very little about different countries around the world. From the use of "uniform" for "U," one can surmise that students in this region of the world often wear school uniforms. Talk to your children about the Caribbean region and help them find Guyana on the map.

Are you tired of the old traditional method of teaching the alphabet, as in "A is for Apple"? If so, you will be pleased with this book that combines the alphabet with cultural education. Do your children know what Creole is or where it is spoken?

After reading Granny JJ's Caribbean A-Z, your children will not only know the answer to that question but will have been exposed to so much more of the Caribbean lifestyle. Joshua Cartwright's wife is Guyanese, giving him first-hand knowledge for writing this book. "Y is for Yam" can lead to a discussion concerning the differences between yams and sweet potatoes. Joshua also includes some coloring pages at the end of the book as a special learning activity for children.

This book is a wonderful way for you to teach children the alphabet while exploring geography and tradition at the same time.

Award-winning author Joshua Cartwright started his writing career writing short true-life accounts for Take a Break magazine, the top-selling women’s magazine in Britain. He’s always enjoyed stories, so it now seems natural that he trained as a business-life coach and ran a business for four years, helping people tell themselves better stories.

When the idea for The Granny JJ Adventures came along it was extremely off-beat – an old creole-speaking grandmother who investigates mysteries in Guyana, South America! But he listened to his wife Glenda, and now the book is well-known in Guyanese circles and even the Guyanese Government has bought copies! In September 2021 the book won a finalist award in the Reader's Favorite International book competition, in the mystery category.

He’s a committed Christian, and one day began wondering if he could create stories that helped children 8+ connect to Jesus.

Thus followed – with divine help! – the Jesus and Me series, now having over 65 five star reviews on Amazon; and it's currently being turned into a TV series script.

He’s happily married to Glenda and they have six children. Joshua's latest project is a book on how to develop your innovation skills called Brutal Creativity.

Granny JJ’s Caribbean A-Z is a fun interactive book to practice letters with little emerging readers, while exposing them to a new culture. My children enjoyed looking at the colorful illustrations while naming each of the letters and corresponding pictures. It’s interesting that the book ties into cultural appreciation and sparked our interest in learning more about Caribbean culture!

I enjoyed reading Granny JJ’s Caribbean A-Z. This book is different from the usual ABC’s. The author lets you know that there are more words that start with A than alligator.

Granny JJ's Caribbean A-Z is a very simple alphabet learning starter book for young children. The creole might be a little challenging for non-Guyanese/Caribbean children so perhaps a glossary could help there. This book has superb potential for greater learning opportunities about significant aspects of Caribbean culture and life using the same props/pictures in the book. Caribbean parents however can expand on each item with their kids and their use and significance in the culture. I like that there are colour pages at the end so that children can interact with the book and links to more books from Granny JJ.

Another look at the beautiful items that can be found in the Caribbean. The illustrations show the fruits, people, and more. This is a great book for a classroom introduction to the Caribbean.

This book teaches the alphabet to kids in the most simplest way. It gives examples from beach items mostly. I liked its simplicity the most

A brilliant fresh take on ABC's. In this colorful, engaging and interesting book learning is made fun. Children learn the alphabet and at the same time they learn about Caribbean life and culture. Love this!

This is sweet ABC book, perfect for preschooler age. This book has a Caribbean theme with each letter emphasis if something that might be spotted there. It’s nice that it goes with the rest of the series! Very cute.

This book gives a simple introduction to Caribbean cultures using the alphabet. I enjoyed that the author stayed true to Caribbean dialect and colloquial phrasing throughout the book. Grab this book for some Caribbean cross-learning.
