Other than writing and reading, Heidi’s current obsessions include watching far too much reality TV with the excuse that it’s research for her books.

    Heidi Catherine in one of my favourite story-tellers, in fact I can honestly adimt I buy her books without bothering to read the blurb because I know I'll love them. This is the second of the Evernow series, though it can be read as a stand-alone. It maintains Heidi's tone of innocence mixed with a cruel twist of evil which keeps the reader gripped until the end. I personally loved reading about all the different plants used for the elixirs. Each kingdom in this series is different and unique to the next highlighting the author's incredible imagination. This story has a fantastic twist which of course I won't reveal, you'll just have to read it yourself to find out and you won't be disappointed...

    The Alchemists of Evernow, the second book in this series, is a great read whether one is a fan of fantasy fiction for adults or not. Author Heidi Catherine’s novel has all the right ingredients: well-defined characters, an interesting setting, and better yet, an original plot. I fancy myself a reader who typically figures out a book’s twists and turns before they happen. But that’s not the case with The Alchemists of Evernow. Bravo! Onto the third book in this series.

    I read book one and was a little upset at the end because the next book wasn’t a continuation of the first. Boy was I wrong to think that. Book 2 was even better and did tie into book one. Can book 3 be even better. Heidi is magic so it just might be. Loved it!

    Heidi Catherine has done it again with The Alchemists of Evernow! This is the second book in the Kingdoms of Evernow series, and so far it's a series well worth reading.

    The story tells us about Wintergreen, another of the Five Kingdoms of Evernow. The Alchemist has learned the secret of controlling people by means of scent, and Jasmine is one of many women in his thrall. When the Alchemist captures Jasmine's brother Raph, she must wake up - and she must seek help from Ari, the heir to the throne of Wintergreen. Ari is on a mission of his own, trying to solve a family mystery, but he agrees to help Jasmine. Can they save Raph, solve Ari's mystery, and break the hold the Alchemist has over people?

    Heidi Catherine does a wonderful job of fleshing out another of the Five Kingdoms of Evernow. The first, Forte Cadence, addressed the power of the spoken word. Here, Wintergreen looks at the impact of the sense of smell. It is through the fragrant elixirs and salts he creates that the Alchemist wreaks havoc and gains power. Scent can heal or wound, kill or cure.

    The world of Evernow is vividly imagined, and the characters are well written. Raph is a precocious boy who sees more than people may realize. Jasmine is a strong, caring young woman. Ari has a good heart and wants to do the right thing, even when it isn't easy. The Alchemist is wonderfully creepy and dislikable, but even he isn't just a one-dimensional bad guy.

    Don't start these books unless you have time to dive in, because you will not want to put them down! The Alchemists of Evernow is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I'm ready to visit the other three kingdoms!

    This is a fantastic read. I totally love this series. This read takes you into a fantasy world that just draws you in. I Love the creativity that was put in this novel. And look forward to the rest of the series. Jasmine is unaware that her mind is not her own. Will she figure it out. The Scenes are written so well that you can see them in your mind as you read. I definitely recommend this must read.

    The Alchemists of Evernow is the second book in the Evernow series by Heidi Catherine. Having enjoyed the first (The Whisperers of Evernow), I was intrigued to know where the story would take us. I wasn’t disappointed as the reader is once again taken on a fascinating, romantic, exciting adventure with plenty of twists and turns. I won’t give it away but there is a plot twist that made me gasp out loud it was SO brilliant. 

    In this book, we are taken to a kingdom facing turmoil as a plague is killing much of the population. When Jasmine’s brother is kidnapped by an evil Alchemist, she seeks help from the kingdom’s rulers. Heir-to-the-throne, Prince Ari agrees to help unravel the problems facing her community and to retrieve her brother. He is quickly captivated by Jasmine and realises that in addition to helping his kingdom and Jasmine, he may also find the answer to a long-standing family mystery.   

    With a finely drawn world, engaging characters and an intriguing premise, this series just keeps on getting better. The book does reunite readers with some of the key characters from The Whisperers of Evernow, which was a nice touch for those who are following the series. I would recommend readers start with The Whisperers but book could equally be enjoyed as a standalone epic fantasy read or read out of order.

    I read the first book in a week and this one in a few days - helps I'm on holiday and have the chance, inbetween outings and my children.

    I was worried this book would be rather repetitive, from the first book and in the first chapter I thought my worries where confirmed BUT I am very pleased to say it was nothing like it!

    I've read series before where the stories or characters have been practically the same! 😔

    Anyway... This book, I whizzed through, quicker than the first.... And loved the story, with a couple of twists, some you can work out and others, not so much!

    The chapters, are following each character, yet still follow the story... Love the way its written. 😍

    I could say so much but don't want to give anything away.

    These books are part a series, but really can be read in any order.... There was a small reference to a couple of characters from the first book but you didn't need to have read it to understand.

    I am now a couple of chapters in, on the third book, which again, is massively different 😁

    The second book in the Evernow series has every element of a true fairy-tale with its non-stop pendulum swing between good and evil. Again, the author has created a fantastical world to stunning effect, cleverly using the sense of smell in this story to delineate the kingdom of Wintergreen and its contrasting cast of characters. I loved it!

    The Whisperers Of Evernow focused on the power of the voice - Harnessing it and using its magic to gain what you want. The Alchemists, however, is focusing on the power of scent. Perfumers and Alchemists working with plants and nectars, filling their apothecaries with all sorts of exotic oils and elixirs, some to heal, others to harm. 

    Jasmine has had a tough go of it; her mother dying, then her father falling ill and passing away, she is left on her own to raise younger brother, Raph. With a mysterious illness killing off all the men, Raph tried desperately to get through to Jasmine, convinced he knows what's going on, though his sister is too deep under the Alchemists spell to believe him until it is almost too late.

    Ari has his own share of problems, with a missing sister, overbearing parents and the weight of the world on his young shoulders. He's an absolute sweetheart, though. Helping Raph and Jasmine without a second thought - Yes their problems intersect, leading them all down the same path, but I can't help but feel even if they didn't, he'd have still helped them out. 

    Just like its predecessor, this book showcases Heidi Catherines great ability to create characters with depth, and to build immersive worlds around them. With wise-beyond-his-years Raph, Jasmine with her deep love and devotion for her family, and the many, many layers to the Alchemist himself, there is such a well-rounded cast of characters. The good, the bad, and the down right evil (And trust me - there's plenty of evil!). 

    This book was full of mystery and action, with plenty twists and turns to keep me guessing. And as a lovely treat, towards the end we get to pay a quick visit to Jeremiah and Rose from book one and see how they are doing, which I loved! This series is quickly becoming a favourite of mine, and I'm already excited to get my hands on book three!
