4.2 out of 5 stars 247 ratings

Two girls. Two lives. One soul.

Long before her time was supposed to be up, Hannah finds herself in the Loom, the place where souls are woven into the life they must live next. Except Hannah wasn’t ready to leave her old life. Nor was she ready to leave Matthew…

As the weaving takes place, Hannah fights to hold onto a part of herself, knowing it’s the only way to solve the mystery of her death. Her memories are her link to the boy who tried to save her. Her last hope of ever finding him again.

In a faraway city, Lin is born. As she grows, her dreams become haunted by faces of people she’s never met. Of a boy her soul aches to be with again. But she also has a life of her own. And when a stranger called Reinier seeks her out, her heart is torn in two.

Lin must decide if she follows the thread that’s tugging her toward the life she shouldn’t remember, or if she weaves herself a new life.

Winner of RWA’s Emerald Pro Award, lovers of Outlander and The Time Traveler’s Wife will be spellbound by this story of love through the ages. Grab your copy now.

Heidi writes fantasy and dystopian novels, which gives her a chance to escape into worlds vastly different to her own life in the burbs. While she quite enjoys killing her characters (especially the awful ones), she promises she’s far better behaved in real life. Other than writing and reading, Heidi’s current obsessions include watching far too much reality TV with the excuse that it’s research for her books.

The Soulweaver is a stunning book. I was moved to tears in several places as it has such heart and soul (no pun intended). It is a fascinating concept - that we all are souls who have lived many times over. The story has a number of beautiful locations including Australia and Hong Kong and the characters are well-drawn and memorable. The pace of the book is excellent and the writing has a beautiful tone - it is not flowery, which could be the temptation for some writers with such a concept, instead it is clean and articulate but constantly conveys the emotion of the characters and their situations beautifully. I can't wait to read the second in the series, The Truthseeker.

    The Soulweaver, Heidi Catherine

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

    Genre: Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy

I love stories that are a little “different” and was intrigued by this one. I really wanted to love it but....like was the best I could describe the way I felt.

I've always been intrigued by “what comes next” and as a child was fiercely convinced in reincarnation. I thought this book would be interesting, and wanted to see how the Hannah/Matthew/Lin/Reiner conundrum would work out. Somehow though when I think of reincarnated souls I see them as lovers, not parent and child, sister and brother, and that part just made it difficult for me to understand, hard for me to feel the love.

Love for a parent/child to me is very different to love for a soulmate.
It did all go full circle, did all work out but for me it was just an OK read, not one I loved. As usual though that's subjective and I can see that others love it so you chose if its likely to be one for you.

Stars: Three, its a well written book, its just that the story wasn't great for me in the way it played out.

The finest sentence in the book is the first one. Unfortunately, it goes down from there.

This book is a great example of why it is important to show, not tell. Pages and pages of prose without dialogue, and the dialogue that did occur was stilted and unnatural.

The relationships were odd and a little disturbing. I did not find them romantic at all, and while we are told over and over how much the characters love each other, there is little in the actions to support it. The characters were one dimensional and not well developed. The main character, Hannah/Lin, is boring, without a thought of her own, beyond I love so-and-so, while Reimer is a little creepy.

The book is billed as fantasy and reincarnation is the main theme. I have no problem with reading a fantasy book about people living more than one life, but the author used her writing as a platform to espouse her views on other beliefs, specifically Christianity. While she is certainly entitled to do so, it makes this little more than a new age novel. There is no fantasy world building, just some weird beliefs.

The story itself is bland. The author draws on different mythologies, but there is no great climax. It drags on and on, with Hannah/Lin going over her feelings repeatedly. She accepts all she is told by Reinier without question, and there is nothing about her character that makes me want to know more about her or connect with her. The Matthew/Shen interaction was just weird.

I kept reading, skipping over many pages which were too tedious to read, in the hopes of a great resolution, but gave up around the 75% mark. It was clear where she was going, and I had had enough.

The Soulweaver is not an ordinary love story. It’s about a dynamic love between souls over many lifetimes. A woman — called Hannah in the first life we meet her and Lin in the second — has a strong connection to a man named Reinier. The two are old souls who have shared many lives together. Then there is Matthew, a relatively young soul, who has a special purpose in this plot. With a writer’s voice that is both graceful and strong, Heidi Catherine makes her story about reincarnation so believable. I have already ordered the second and look forward to continuing this saga.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bestseller in the Making
Reviewed in Australia on January 28, 2018
I'm in awe of the originality of the beautiful and ingenious storyline in this book, its beautiful writing and the beautiful soul guiding its author.

As a non-fiction writer myself, with a maths background and never much of a believer in dream catchers and reincarnation, I didn't know what to expect from this book when I picked it up to read. I found myself thoroughly intrigued from start to finish - and overjoyed that I didn't pick up a single glitch in digital layout, spelling or English grammar.

The Soulweaver may have won a prestigious national award as 'a romance' (and no wonder it won) but it's definitely not your average product of the romance genre. It's a story about 'love' in its broadest and deepest sense. It's also 'spiritual' and 'philosophical', perhaps an 'old-fashioned morality tale', all of which descriptors I regard as much more appropriate than the narrow word 'religious' which I've seen a few other reviewers use. Most of us are in despair as we look around the world today and see the way people treat each other, the way our environment is being trashed. This book lifts your spirits.

The world needs more well-written, creative, thought-provoking stories like this. I hope this book becomes a best seller.

One of the best books I have ever read! Well written, cleverly contrived. A book which will widen your horizons and make you think, while delighting your senses and feeding the romance which lies in everyone. I'm not surprised it has already won one award.
I read this in the author's native Australia, looking out on a patch of forest, which set the first scene beautifully. I'm off to buy the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautifully Written Story
Reviewed in Australia on March 8, 2018
The Soulweaver is a beautifully written story of love and loss, of heartache and fear, of relationships we have with parents, and also between lovers. Heidi Catherine draws us into the concept of our souls inhabiting different people, with different lives, over centuries of time. With each life there are valuable lessons required to learn, to move forward to the next existence. I cannot wait to read the next book of the trilogy.
