“I was going to say you can keep my heart in a cage. But the truth is, I think it was in a cage before. Before I let myself love you...” • I absolutely adored this book, y’all! This super fun, fast-paced MM romance is not to be missed. Who doesn’t want to read about lifeguards, am I right? Marcus and Jamie had so much heat and passion and fantastic banter, Heat Stroke got me out of a severe book funk. I cannot recommend this one enough!

    Some Tessa books I’ve really liked (Mouth to Mouth in this series and Getaway Girl) while others I just could not get into. BUT WOOOW! This second book in the Beach Kingdom series is HOT! I’ve a iron fisted reviewer and hard to please. I rarely give it up a 5 star review, but Tessa really slammed the nail on the head with this one! I just couldn’t get enough and stayed up all night until I finished it.
    I usually read MF (I’m a F and not so much a fan of MFM or RH. But I do like MMF reads) this was the first just MM read I’ve picked up so far. And I can tell you, I’m going to be getting more! There’s no wondering why so many men are interested in men after reading this bad boy!
    Jamie was wonderful. He’s smart, sweet, funny and there’s just something about him you love.
    Marcus isn’t sure what his orientation is, but figured it out fast. He starts out unsure, then wanting it to be a secret, then realizes he’s in love with Jamie and he’s all in fast. When he gets outted on accident by his brother finding Jamie with Marcus together, he fights for Jamie and begs him to stay. It was devastating how Jamie stayed away from him for a while. While I understood Jamie has a bad past, he knew Marcus wasn’t like that. I was glad he came to his senses.
    I adored how affection and unashamed Marcus because fast. He was all in and it was amazing. I also really loved how Tessa wrote Marcus to be sort of a big dum dum jock, but yet he really wasn’t. He had his good qualities and wasn’t dumb really. He was amazing at certain things and he saw Jamie for Jamie.
    Sex scenes were hot! Give this one a try!

    After I read Mouth to Mouth I was more interested in Jamie and Marcus and hoping that they would be a couple, than I was with the main couple in MtM. So when Tessa Bailey announced this book and that, yes, Marcus and Jamie were together I was excited.

    Marcus was definitely my favorite part of this whole story. Going into this, and in the previous book, he was sort of the stereotypical "dumb jock", worked out almost obsessively, had scores of women interested, missed what some people were putting down but even in Mouth to Mouth we saw his caring, we saw how when Jamie might have been hurt he was worried and scared for him. Then in Heat Stroke as the story went on we got to see that while he might not have the book smarts that Jamie had he was such an amazing man and he cared so deeply about his family, friends, and Jamie. So sweet and he was someone who I wanted to protect.

    Jamie was also great. A teacher during the school months, lifeguard and bartender during the summer months. He was smart and definitely hesitant to start something with Marcus but it was understandable. He had been hurt in the past by a former lover (and the jerk's buddy's as well) and Jamie really didn't want to get involved with another guy who had questions about his sexuality and who didn't quite know what he wanted.

    The romance between Jamie and Marcus was so good. I could not get enough of these two together. Both guys were friendly and fought their attraction for each other but neither could deny how much they wanted each other and that they would do anything for the other.

    What kept this from being a complete 5 stars for me though was two things. The first was that Chris, Jamie's former very short time lover (pre-series) and the guy who beat him up and helped his friends try to drown/kill Jamie years ago, was brought up a couple of times and also he was seen around town but there was zero interaction between him, Jamie, or Marcus. Since he had been brought up and mentioned he was back in town I was expecting something with that, instead we got nothing.

    And the second thing was, even though I haven't read a lot of M/M romance, I'm already tired of the stories where one doesn't know if he's gay/bi. I need to go searching for ones where they both know and there's something else that's the obstacle for their relationship.

    Overall though I really loved this one. All I wanted at the end of this was more Jamie and Marcus. I cannot wait for the next in the series? trilogy?

    There was much I loved about HEAT STROKE.

    But Marcus and Jamie are by far the best thing about this novel.

    Polar opposite, Marcus the gym fanatic, Jamie the smart teacher – you wouldn’t think that they had anything in common, but underneath the surface was what really counted and there they clicked.

    Together they were amazing.

    Really amazing!! Their dynamic, how well they understood each other, and the crazy way Marcus and Jamie completed each other was what kept me reading.

    Unique personalities are rare and can make or break a book. For me it’s all about great writing and unique characters, and Jamie and Marcus were a fantastic couple. My favorite scenes were when they were together. The pull between them was epic. None was able to fight their attraction, or their ingrained willingness to do whatever was needed to make the other person happy. Jamie’s No always turned into Yes when it came to Marcus. And Marcus was just this big teddy bear who wanted to please Jamie. I could have eaten him up.

    So, if this book would have been just about Jamie and Marcus, finding their way without having to worry about other peoples ideas and their homophobic tendencies, especially as it can be found in some families, this book would have been a 5 star. But alas it became predictable. Most M/M books have the same plot. The uniqueness is falling to the wayside, and I feel like the M/M genre is becoming generic – including cookie cutter plots.

    Consequently I started skipping the inner monologues, the repetitive thoughts and concerns – I got bored.

    But I did not get bored with the sex scenes – wowzer!!!Those were HOTTTT! I’ll be honest and admit right here that I’m turned on by well written M/M sex scenes and the author certainly knows how to write them. Like I said the couple really did it for me. Not only in the bedroom – lol.

    Jamie and Marcus deserve a 5 star rating, the rest of the book not so much.

    As soon as I saw that Heat Stroke is available for purchase I one-clicked it immediately! First of all it's a Tessa Bailey book and she's one of my most favorite authors ever!!! And second, I wanted to read Jamie's and Marcus' book so badly since I first met them in Mouth to Mouth. I couldn't wait to see how the brash, muscled big dude Marcus “Diesel” O’Shaughnessy falls in love with smart and sexy private school teacher Jamie Prince.

    At first sight these two guys couldn't be more different. While Jamie is confident in his sexuality and preferences, Marcus is not. All he knows is that his heart beats louder when Jamie is around and that he can't stay away from him. But Jamie has enough of confused guys and doesn't want to travel this road again. As much as he tries to put a distance between him and Marcus, he can't deny that he secretly craves his attention.

    Avoiding each other seems impossible when they spend every summer working as lifeguards together. And if that wasn't enough, Marcus works as a bouncer at the Castle Gate, a bar owned by the Prince brothers. So the inevitable happens and things get very hot between them. But can there ever be more than that? Jamie doesn't want to be somebody's dirty little secret. Will Marcus be brave enough to acknowledge his feelings and stand by his man?

    These two guys made me swoon hard! Marcus was this sweet giant with a big mouth, who was always making jokes and hiding his fears and desires behind them. He was so protective of Jamie! *sigh* Jamie was very smart and confidant. I loved how he patiently guided Marcus trough everything that was new to him. Their love was genuine and yet so fragile. Once they allowed themselves to fall for each other and act on it, everything fell into place.

    I can't believe that this is Tessa Bailey's first M/M book. She wrote it like a pro! There was hotness galore, but there were deep emotions too. These parts were my favorite and made me cry so much! I tear up every time I re-read them. I can only congratulate Tessa Bailey on another well-written and fantastic story that I'm putting on my most favorite read shelf. 5 stars

    One of the most romantic books I've read this year. I loved the way they couldn't resist each other and how they were affected by the simplest things--or the hottest ones--the other one did. Marcus was so adorable, and I liked how Jamie dropped his guard down with Marcus. It was really sweet. Besides, the sex scenes are great (I wouldn't expect anything less from Tessa Bailey. She's one of my favorite authors).
