I was just looking for one measly drink to take the edge off.

    A lot of books like to say their main character is like the iconic KD, but this is the first book I’ve read in awhile that actually kept me engaged in the way that series did. Ray is very tough and independent and ends up in all these crazy situations but holds her own. She also is really compassionate and protects and helps people who can’t help or defend themselves. This was a quick read and the plot kept moving without a dull moment. There’s also a slow-burn(ish) fated mates subplot for anyone like me who loves a good love story.

    I feel like this story was "almost there." It had some interesting world building and starts to characters. However, it seemed like the author would refer to people/places/situations like we were midway through a series and should already know what is going on or who the people were. If the author would go back and smooth out some of the breaks in the story it would have been a better read, and a longer book. I liked there descriptions of the things they did take time to explain so I feel like they could do this and not loose any of the pace or action.

    I'm so glad I decided to read this. It was exciting and suspenseful with a little romance. The world building was creative and unique and the characters were well developed and interesting. Raywen was a strong woman who didn't put up with anything. I enjoyed the chemistry between Dubhlain and Raywen and look forward to seeing their relationship progress in the next book. I can't wait to read more from author.
