Dogs and More Dogs, Another Murder (A Sheridan Hendley Mystery Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 238 ratings

What's an amateur sleuth to do when twenty or more dogs are found at an abandoned house? And then there's a dead body. Or two.

Sheridan Hendley’s volunteer position at Pets and Paws takes a new turn when more than twenty malnourished dogs are found at a rundown house on the outskirts of town. When the body of an elderly woman is found amidst mountains of clutter in the house, a search of the property leads to startling revelations. And another body.

While Herman Stoneham’s death is deemed natural causes, his wife’s is not. Hoarding and a rekindled long held family feud add to the challenges facing Sheridan Hendley, amateur sleuth. Where did all the dogs come from and who’s responsible for Justine’s untimely death? Are the two connected? If you love dogs and cozy mysteries, this one is for you.

Christa Nardi is an accomplished author of cozy mysteries. Christa's background is in higher education and psychology, much as her protagonist, Sheridan Hendley in the Cold Creek mystery series. She has always loved mysteries - reading them, writing them, and solving them. Christa is a member of Sisters in Crime. When not writing or reading, Christa and her husband enjoy travel, three grandchildren, and their dogs.

Murder at Cold Creek College is the first in the Cold Creek series, set in a small, fictitious town in Virginia and Sheridan is an accidental sleuth called on to assist the detective in charge of a colleague's murder. The fifth and last in the series, Murder and a Wedding, was released on August 10, 2017. Sheridan may be moving, but she still gets involved in mysteries with the Sheridan Hendley series.

Christa also authors the Stacie Maroni Myseries. Stacie is a strong female at a crossroads in her life who works with victims of domestic violence. Going back to memories of the Dana Girls,

Christa collaborates with Cassidy Salem on a YA mystery series featuring teen sisters.

This book will keep you turning the pages. I found it quite enjoyable!
An old woman found dead in her house--Not only was the house a total mess but she had an awful lot of dogs!! And I mean a LOT!! They all had to be brought to the local shelter which was run by a really nice, but slightly confused older lady who really did not know how to be mean! It took Sheridan and several volunteers to get all the dogs to the shelter. Then because there were far too many--Sheridan had to call other shelters to see if they could take some! When the son and daughter are told--and they showe up-the daughter is devestated. It took days to clean it out with several people helping. Meanwhile the son was not the most likable person! So who gets the house ultimately--and what happened to all the dogs? Lots of twists and turns as the police try to find who murdered the old woman! This book will keep you turning the pages. I found it quite enjoyable!

I liked this story. Not as fond of the animal abuse situation but I know that it contributed to the mystery story line. The mystery moved along well. The characters were well developed. There was a nice balance between learning about the main character Sheridan and her personal situation and elements of the murder. I will definitely look for more books by this author.

This book waa interesting. However it would probably have been better had I read the previous books in the series. Although the characters were interesting, they were not very well developed as a stand alone. Sheriden , the main character, was sadly lacking in good development. I could see she is probably a good main, but much was missing. The murder was a first type for me, so the book had that going for it. And, of course, the shelter, its dogs, employees and the owner, Mrs. C, made for quite quirky and fun as well as dramatic events and feelings.
Worth the read, but perhaps read the preceding books first

An easy read (I read it in a day). This is the second book that I’ve read in the series and have enjoyed both. In Dogs and More Dogs - well, you know there are going to be dogs, but be prepared for a dead body in the bedroom and one buried out in the backyard!

This second book lost a little of its luster from the first story, but still was a cute and entertaining story. Sheridan has settled into her new lifestyle working in the educational field on her one year assignment. A welcome addition is her being asked to periodically assist the local authorities in cases needing her help. Once again she gets involved in a local murder mystery and her involvement in the past rescue abandoned dogs.

Cute personalities of the characters in the book. I liked the way they figured it all out.
I will be interested in reading more in this series.. I am anxious to see how some of the characters grow and change.
Would I recommend this book? You bet. If you enjoy mysteries, humor, and rather messed up personalities, this will be right up your alley.

An interesting and intriguing story. I liked that there was an insight into a rescue centre for dogs, and the hard work that volunteers do. There was a murder that Sheridan couldn't resist investigating. The characters were well rounded and believable.
