The Hidden Witch (The Coven: Academy Magic Book 1) Kindle Edition
At least that's what I thought. But now, my story is changing...
You know you’re invisible when even your bullies forget to pick on you. That’s me, Bettina Blair, hidden in plain sight. No matter how hard I try I just never fit in with my classmates.
Now I know why. I’m a witch...apparently.
One little demon attack and my parents confess their ugly secret…and ship me off to an elite academy of magic- for witches only.
I can't summon magic. I can't fight with my hands or my fists. I just don't belong here, and Jackson Lancaster keeps reminding me every single chance he gets. This boy is the most insufferable, intolerable, unbearable, judgmental person to ever have the right to be that gorgeous. I don’t care how sexy his British accent is, or that literally everyone else on campus adores him. He hates me, and the feeling is mutual.
Suddenly, I’m sent on a quest into the Old Lands to find the only thing that can save Eden from a demon invasion. I’m in way over my head, and my best chance of coming back alive lies in the hands of the guy who wants me gone…
The Hidden Witch is the first book in a brand new, fast paced urban fantasy adventure featuring a sharp-witted heroine, swoon-worthy hero, and one epic hate-to-love rollercoaster set inside a magical academy!
*Disclaimer: Academy Magic is Season Two in The Coven Series. It can be read as a standalone but contains some spoilers for Season One - Elemental Magic.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2019This is the book that started my fascination (read obsession) with Chandelle LaVaun's books! I believe I had read Ella Summers' books (all of them) and Leia Stone's Fallen Academy books first, and The Hidden Witch popped up as a recommendation on Amazon. So I read it. I was hooked immediately! I fell in love with Bettina, Jackson (Lancelot), Lennox, Dean, Warner, Trey, Genevieve, and Erin. I also adored Fred and George (not That Fred and George, but you have to love the tribute paid to THE BEST YA Fantasy ever - don't get me wrong, I love a lot of books, especially LOTR/The Hobbit, but I'm not sure I consider it YA as much, and it still didn't hook me like HP!) If you're looking for a great author who tells wonderful stories, start reading Chandelle LaVaun's books today! I started with Bettina and while waiting for her next book (Chandelle does leave the books within the same season on a cliffhanger, but resolved them by the end of the season,) went back and read Tennegan's season. Now some people say it ruined it for them to do it that way, but it didn't for me. Regardless of whether you start with The Elemental Magic series or The Academy of Magic series, they are well worth the read. Disclaimer: I wouldn't necessarily read all of Bettson's story without backtracking to Tennegan, or it is likely to ruin Tennegan for you as The Academy series answers some questions asked during The Elemental Magic series, but to read B's first book did not ruin the first season.

This book was very good. It starts of with Bettina and her friend Tegan was separated. Tegan had to move and Bettina was left behind. She snook out went to a party of her friend which was now her only friend since Tegan was gone. She went inside and the girls was being cruel she found a nice girl named Ashley and ended up playing on a Ouija board. Turns out it worked because she was a with and her parents decided she isn't safe anymore after getting attacked by a demon at school. She gets sent to edenburg a school for witches a crystal ball picks her suit which is swords. How can that's be she never fought in her life. She is having a hard time and her magic is suppressed and if that isn't enough the guy she is crushing on hates her. The school is under attack and she is getting blamed for a murder what will happen next.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021**Warning! Cliffhanger!**
This book begins season 2 of the coven, and the story of Bettina, Tegan’s (Aether witch and Priestess from season 1) best friend.
Bettina had no idea magic exists, and is stunned when she is told she is a witch, and taken to a new school.
There she is trained in witchcraft and weaponry, learning how best to fight the evils of the world.
There are a lot of crossovers in this book, which occurs concurrently with the entire Elemental series of the Coven. There are a few scenes told from another perspective, and a number of cameo appearances.
At times heartrending, and other heart pounding, it starts this new story arc with a magical bang!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2019Ok so when you start this book you may think 'umm Harry potter'..but I promise you it's so much better than that! If you've was the coven series you will be constantly loving how the stories intertwine! I thought this was going to be new with new characters and missing the other ones from the coven but nope! There are lots of new ones with your old favorites mixed in! I am dying for the next one now! The twists were great , the new information that ties in the other series is just what I've been dying to know but still leaves so many questions! I love how her writing takes you into their world so well, such great books!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2019What an amazing start to the season. I totally expected this book to be about the mysterious tower card revealed in season one, but was happily surprised to see who the main character turned out to be. Wonderful tie ins to the characters throughout, and amazing character growth. The shocking revelation at the end and subsequent cliffhanger (which Chandelle is oh sooo fond of. Lol) has me on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next book. This season can be read separately from the first, but I would highly recommend reading Tegan's story (season 1) first.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2023This is a book about a witches school. Witches are train in different areas of the school. Demons start attacking the school and other cities. The young witches start to battle to save the world. Good book
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2019I’m breezing through this world. It’s getting better and better! This is now Bettina’s story (POV switching still between her and the love interest Jackson). Turns out she is a witch and this story is parallel to the events happening during the Elemental Magic series. It was so frustrating how Bettina and Tegan kept JUST missing each other! I can’t wait until they both realize the other is a witch! They are best friends for goodness sake!
Anyway, it was nice to read through a point of view not consumed with soulmate thoughts. The story was also pretty cool. It was fun knowing what was happening in the school while the Coven was on their quest and I realized they each had references to each other. Good job in tying those together. Theres so much more questions than answers and I can’t wait to find them out. I’m going to continue speeding on!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2022Oh wow, Keagan's best friend ends up being a witch too! Small world, eh?
Betina Blair kept stumbling into incident after incident until a witch declared her one of the witches. FIrst the Gathering then the Ouigi Board.
Then comes across a jerk of a witch named Jackson who has the hot for Betina just like Betina does for him.
Once admitted into the Edenbourgh Academy, she's put into the Sword suite and trains her butt off to be an awesome warrior. She makes new friends and gained an awesome mentor named Timothy who's the Judgement Card and one of the LLeader of the coven.
But Timothy is murdered and guess what? OUr favorite Betina being framed for it.
Ugh I want some righteous justice, 'yall!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous start to a new series, can't wait for the next book!
I really loved the first series Chandelle wrote in this world and was hoping this book would be just as good. I was wrong, it was better! Not only does Chandelle introduce new characters who are feisty and fun, but she is able to link back to the previous series so you get a "behind the scenes" look at what was happening while the others were saving the day!
I can't wait to see what Bettina and Jackson get up to next!

A new development of the serie extending the narrative to old and new characters without losing its focus and purpose. Ready to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to read book two!!!
This is the first book in The Coven: Academy Magic series by Chandelle LaVaun and it was incredible! Chandelle has created a unique mystical/fantasy young adult series which started in the Eternal Magic Series and it just keeps getting better. Bettina accidentally summons a demon and finds out she is a witch. Then she is whisked off to Eden to attend Edenburg Academy of Witches. We are introduced to many new characters and some we have met before with the Coven making appearances throughout the book. The book grabs your attention right from the beginning full of action, suspense, love and sacrifice. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series The Fallen Witch!
