- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024This book was about Carter Rogers, the doctor you meet in the Licking Ticket series, and his bodyguard Riggs. A major aspect in this book is a game called Horn of Glory. Even after reading the whole book I can barely tell you anything about the game. All I know is that the game is a huge innuendo, like everything else. But anyway, Carter is in a different country with Riggs are his bodyguard. This is supposed to be a punishment for Riggs as he inadvertently cost his company a job when some information got leaked. While in this other country Carter and Riggs form somewhat of a hate friendship. They argue and fight a bit but they’re stuck so they bond and may or make not hookup. They later end up being kidnapped, and this is where the story really picks up. Although this is a kidnap story, it is very light hearted and full of comedy. The Horn of Glory plays a big role in this, as does a monologuing “cartel leader.”
During this, Carter and Riggs get closer and let their attraction to each other grow. They both have really great chemistry. I wish there was a little more spice in this book, since it was very heavy on plot but I still enjoyed it all the same. Next book is about Champ and Quinn, but I am more excited about Kev and Hux. One of my favorite moments were the interactions between Kev and Hux. I could not stop laughing at how ridiculous. I imagine their books will be full of sexual tension.
Book 1 is getting 5 stars from me, a good start to this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2022Okay, to first things first. Regardless of its setting or plot, this is still a Licking Thicket novel. So should you go into it expecting to see a truly harrowing escape after being kidnapped? Absolutely not. What about a realistic portrayal of a drug cartel? Big ole nope. What you can expect is an abundance of puns, ridiculous hijinks, and a satisfying HEA.
Carter Rogers has decided that he needs to get out of Tennessee for a bit so he signs up to do another trip with Doctors Across Continents. His grandfather basically guilts him into taking along a bodyguard who, as it turns out, doesn't want to be there any more than Carter wants him to. Riggs, a former soldier turned personal protection specialist, is sent with Carter to Venezuela as punishment for massively bungling his previous assignment. What is supposed to be a easy, but boring month long trip ends up being anything but when the pair are kidnapped by the cartel to treat their leader. When his current assignment collides with the one he messed up, Riggs sees his shot at redemption. But, he has to decide if it's worth the cost of sacrificing his growing bond with Carter and the future he sees with him.
I love Carter's relationship with his grandfather and especially his cousin Kevin. He comes across as this aloof person, but he really does care deeply about the people in his life. And his worry about his "fear-lust stress response" was hilarious. He and Riggs are great together. I love a good forced proximity romance, so I liked seeing these two having to work together to escape after being kidnapped. And, Riggs genuinely wanting to do a good job to make things up to his boss Champ while also developing real feelings for Carter added some great tension to the story. However, I could have done without the miscommunication at the end - or at least I wish it had been done a different way. But, the intervention, groveling, HEA made up for it.
My only other "issue" is that I don't think some of the humor works quite as well in an action adventure type story that requires them to leave the Thicket. I get why they had to leave, and it makes sense for the story the authors are telling, but what makes these books so special is all the small town shenanigans and the people they encounter. So I'm glad to see the next book seems to be taking place back in the Thicket and will center around the Horn of Glory game because I loved that part of this story.
Three Thoughts:
1. I adored every single Tucker and Dunn mention/cameo in this book. It wasn't so much that it it overwhelmed the story or kept it from standing on its own, but Tucker and Carter's friendship was an important part of Fools so I'm glad it wasn't ignored or forgotten in this book.
2. I love the found family vibes Riggs has with Champ, Hux and the rest of their coworkers.
3. The banter and tension between Kevin and Hux is already amazing. I absolutely cannot wait for their book.
So this wasn't my favorite book by this duo, but I do think it sets this series up to be a lot of fun. And, I'm excited to see what happens next.

Hijacked is a good start to A Licking Thicket: Horn of Glory series. This being a spinoff of the Licking Thicket series, I expected and was not disappointed in the copious use of puns and double entendres. I was happy to see that the craziness wasn’t limited to Licking Thicket but followed them wherever they went. When I wasn't laughing, I was knee-deep in the drama of their predicament. And it was a peculiar predicament, let me tell you.
With this being a Licking Thicket product, I was amused and strangely content with the offbeat actions and dialogue in which all the characters engaged. In other words, I did not look for Einstein and nor did he show up. Even the well-educated characters are a bit goofy and weird, and I love it.
It was great to see characters from the previous series (Dunn, DunnDunn, Dunn, heh) and meeting these new characters. I feel confident they will lead all of us readers on a merry chase through the hilarity and strangeness of the Thicket in future books.
The romance between Riggs and Carter is sweet, nurturing, and passionate. Their HEA is believable and satisfying. I ended up loving them both.
Hijacked is an amusing read, but I have to say that there are serious, thought-provoking, and painful parts. I even teared up at one point.
I look forward to more from these authors.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2024Lucy and May are a duo...
I wish I could be in the room while they're writing... Especially if they read segments aloud to each other.
I'm positive there is a lot of cackling that goes on and maybe some rolling on the floors with tears rolling down their faces.
This is a great book!
Tension😚😶
Especially if you have a fear of flying in a helicopter.
There is romance.
Family machinations.
Corporate intrigue.
And a well earned HEA!

5.0 out of 5 stars So good.
Carter and Riggs are complete opposites in looks, skills and personality BUT boy do they smoke when together. Riggs is following orders not to get involved with his client but the sparks fly way to hot to be ignored. Carter is having his Dr skills put to the test and of course throw in kidnapping and it's a ticking clock.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thicketer for life
They may leave the Thicket but the Thicket doesn't leave them!
Carter was the problem in the past book, the ex who it seemed was going to upend the whole potential relationship happening. When he instead helps the relationship and moves into town, becoming the newest resident in this crazy town, it was clear Carter needed his own story. And boy did it deliver! Moving to the area has made Carter question everything, because as much as he loves it he feels he isn't fulfilling his purpose and has lost his chance at love in the future. Carter throws himself into travel and outreach work but finds himself guarded and in an unexpected situation.
Riggs is a great bodyguard but he lets his dick lead him sometimes. His most recent time has him in trouble and knocked down to babysitting bodyguard. When he and Carter actually end up in trouble the two have to work closely together and it brings up many unexpected things.
Carter is not only working through his idea of relationships, but of what he wants for his future and who he is. We learn a lot about his past that truly explains this and gives an amazing picture of this rich doctor. Seeing him figure these things out was great.
Riggs doesn't imagine he can have work and love with his particular job. Getting together in a high stress situation doesn't help. But as things work in different ways it shows that maybe there could be more to relationships too.
As with any of the Thicket books there is plenty of light humour and crazy situations. Despite being prisoners there is that light feeling and crazy little happenings that could only happen to these small town residents. It all comes back to love and support of that crazy town though. Now following the security team based there it will surely be a wild ride what happens next!

4.0 out of 5 stars a dangerous game
Carter is a doctor who wants to make a difference, so he goes on aid trips to work in third world countries. This time his grandfather wants him to stay safe, so he hires Riggs to look after him.
Through no fault of Carter’s, he and Riggs are kidnapped by a cartel leader with heart problems. Riggs does everything he can to keep Carter safe, to buoy his spirits, and to figure out a way to escape.
Riggs also discovers a gaming programmer thought to have run off from his former employer, kidnapped and being made to set up a money laundering scheme through his game.
Interesting adventure, with lots if strong characters and a hilarious gang leader patient for Carter.
