Up Your HOA Hole Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 181 ratings

In the seemingly idyllic community of Sterling Winds, Gwendolyn Thornton, the unwavering Homeowners Association (HOA) President, maintains a facade of order and serenity. Beneath the manicured lawns and elegant facades, however, lies a brewing storm of tension and discord.

As the gatekeepers of the neighborhood's pristine image, Gwendolyn and the HOA navigate the delicate balance of maintaining the community's outward charm while grappling with the clash of personalities among its residents. The arrival of Preston and Carter Higgins, Sterling Winds' first openly gay couple, disrupts the established norms, exposing the underlying prejudices and biases that simmer just below the surface.

In a community where appearances are everything, not everyone welcomes the Higgins with open arms. From high-strung personalities to ruthless neighbors, the once-tranquil Sterling Winds becomes a battleground of egos, secrets, and suburban drama. Gwendolyn finds herself torn between upholding the neighborhood's image and fostering a more inclusive environment.

Amid the perfectly trimmed hedges and picturesque streets,
Up Your HOA Hole explores the struggle for acceptance, the price of conformity, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of societal expectations. Will Sterling Winds weather the storm of transformation, or will the facade of perfection shatter under the weight of its residents' conflicting desires?

With an unholy host of colorful characters, BJ Irons deftly weaves together the disparate and desperate storylines of strangers-turned-neighbors in his newest novel, “Up Your HOA Hole.” Although the premise is simple – daily life within an idyllic, suburban community – the twists and turns of the plot are as spicy and potent as one of Gwen Thornton’s specialty cocktails. As president of the Home Owners’ Association, life in Sterling Winds blows along just as Gwen has planned until a cruel twist proves to her that rules are made to be broken. Catty and conniving in the best possible way, Irons uses the virtues and vices of an ordinary neighborhood to create the perfect summer read!

A couple looks for a house, finds one and thinks that they have landed in a place where they can find peace, tranquility and set down some roots. And then they start getting to know their neighbors and things get interesting. The homeowner's association is often the group that gives people pause when considering where they want to live and boy did that show itself in this story. It was a hoot and a little bracing as well. The story overall was fun, illuminating and filled with an interesting look at the people in this neighborhood above and below the surface of what you see from the outside. This was seriously cool.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.

B.J Irons has crafted a humorous fictional gem. Anyone who has lived in an HOA community will be roaring with laughter as they read about the trials and tribulations of Gwen Thornton and her neighbors at Sterling Winds.
This book is reminiscent of “Desperate Housewives” with a smidgeon of “Dynasty” thrown in for good measure. A pure delight to read.

This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. While I appreciated the complex characters and the exploration of societal norms, I couldn't help but feel uneasy about the portrayal of certain individuals. The storyline was engaging, but at times it felt a bit too over-dramatized. Overall, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It definitely got me thinking, but I'm left feeling conflicted about the message it's trying to convey. As someone who has dabbled in the coaching industry before, I can't help but approach books like this with a healthy dose of skepticism. The promise of a "proven 7-figure blueprint" sounds a bit too good to be true, especially considering the challenges many coaches face. However, I have to admit that the compelling success stories shared in the book description have piqued my interest. I'm curious to see if this author truly has cracked the code to success in the coaching world or if it's just another case of empty promises. I'll definitely be giving this book a closer look to see if it lives up to the hype. Let's see if it can convince this skeptical reader.

When I first started this book I thought about putting it down many times but was intrigued enough to continue. It has a very interesting plot and soon became involved with the characters. It has a very thought provoking story line. Well worth reading but be sure to read completely

The plot of Up Your HOA Hole offers an interesting premise, diving into the drama of suburban life and exploring the unique tensions in a community governed by an HOA. The conflict created by the arrival of the first openly gay couple, Preston and Carter Higgins, adds a layer of social relevance, providing a platform for examining issues of prejudice and inclusion. However, while the concept has potential, the writing often falls flat. The author tends to tell rather than show, which hinders the emotional depth and atmosphere of the scenes. With more vivid descriptions and character development, this story could become much more immersive.

Okay, so Up Your HOA Hole was a ride I didn't know I signed up for, but man, am I glad I did. If you've ever lived in a neighborhood with an HOor just watched people complain about property lines and lawn height, you will feel the pain.

This story follows the queen bee of Sterling Winds, Gwendolyn Thornton, a right pain in the a** if you know what I mean, she runs her HOA with an iron fist and a perfectly manicured smile. But, of course, things go sideway fast. When the new neighbors move in, secrets start slipping out, and Gwen’s perfect little world atarts cracking at the seams. And the drama in this book is juicy. We're talking protests, hidden rivalries, backstabbing, and more than a few moments that had me whispering, “Oh no, she didn't!”

The writing is super engaging, and the characters? Loved them. Some I loved, some I wanted to throat punch ;-) (looking at you, Beth Parker).

Was it over-the-top? Absolutely. Did I love it anyway? You bet. If you like a mix of Desperate Housewives, Big Little Lies, and HOA nightmares rolled into one, this is for you!
