Honeymoon for One: Gay Romance Kindle Edition
Betrayed the night before his wedding by the supposed boy of his dreams, Ethan Robinson escapes the devastating fallout by going on his honeymoon alone to the other side of the world. Hard of hearing and still struggling with the repercussions of being late-deafened, traveling by himself leaves him feeling painfully isolated with his raw, broken heart.
Clay Kelly never expected to be starting life over in his forties. He got hitched young, but now his wife has divorced him and remarried, his kids are grown, and he’s left his rural Outback town. In a new career driving a tour bus on Australia’s East Coast, Clay reckons he's happy enough. He enjoys his cricket, a few beers, and a quiet life. If he's a bit lonely, it's not the end of the world.
Clay befriends Ethan, hoping he can cheer up the sad-eyed young man, and a crush on an unattainable straight guy is exactly the safe distraction Ethan needs. Yet as the days pass and their connection grows, long-repressed desires surface in Clay, and they are shocked to discover romance sparking. Clay is the sexy, rugged man of Ethan’s dreams, and as the clock counts down on their time together, neither wants this honeymoon to end.
Honeymoon for One by Keira Andrews is a gay romance featuring an age gap, sexual awakening, a slow burn of newfound friends to lovers, first times, and of course a happy ending.

Review
"This story is perfect on so many levels: Clay's sexual awakening; the hot but ever-so-tender sex once the men get together; the complex secondary characters, particularly Clay's daughter Sam and his dog Gilly; the way Clay looks out for Ethan always; and the way Ethan is willing to risk everything to be with Clay." ~ My Fiction Nook
"I appreciated incorporating a character who is dealing with a physical challenge and Andrews does a great job helping us see the world from Ethan's perspective.... If you are looking for a story of two guys starting over and finding themselves in the process, Honeymoon for One is a good choice." ~ Joyfully Jay LGBTQ Romance Reviews
"Another truly wonderful romance from Keira Andrews. She never fails to bring all the emotional connections to her love stories and this one is no exception.... This is a perfect book for snuggling up with by a cosy fire. Oh and a note on the dialogue-perfect. Clay spoke Aussie with a flair and an authenticity which I recognised from my own experiences Down Under." ~ Mirrigold Mutterings & Musings

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2019What happens when you have devastating news the day before you’re supposed to get married? What if that betrayal cuts so deep that leaving is the only alternative? Ethan had every right to walk away from his impending nuptials, and I give him credit for opting to go on the honeymoon solo. It’s doubly brave because Ethan is hard of hearing. Things that most of us take for granted are challenging for him. He’s learned to deal but it doesn’t make things easier for him and without his fiancé, he struggles. He’s from New York City, although Buffalo originally. He’s been through some tough things, to be sure, but going on a solo trip to Australia ranks up with one of the biggest challenges.
The tour he chose turns out to mostly be older people, couples in particular. He believes they are feeling sorry for him and perhaps at first some of them are. Others recognize the bravery it takes. The tour guide Shiv is friendly, but it’s the bus driver Clay who really makes an effort to help. He takes the time to get to know Ethan, way above and beyond any call of the job. But Clay sees Ethan in a way most people don’t. He sees beyond the hard of hearing aspect and into the lost soul Ethan is. He sees a bit of a kindred spirit. Clay’s twenty-something-year marriage ended recently and he also experienced loss, although it was gentler – if that kind of betrayal can be. He’s remained on good terms with his ex and has two children he adores. Children who are almost Ethan’s age. Something Clay reminds himself of as he gets to know this younger man.
I love age gap books when they’re done well. Neither man is expecting to find someone on this trip. Clay’s driven the route dozens of times without encountering anyone who has intrigued him. Ethan is still nursing a broken and betrayed heart. I think those are sometimes the most precious relationships – the ones we don’t see coming. The ones that, on paper, make no sense and yet are perfect nonetheless. Not that there aren’t obstacles. – the age thing is minor compared to the fact they live on opposite sides of the globe. America and Australia are a long way apart and long-distance relationships are challenging.
Yet as the book progressed, I began to believe in Clay and Ethan. Clay’s attention to Ethan and his accommodation of Ethan’s situation was touching. He was patient, understanding, and considerate. Ethan has faced enough challenges dealing with his progressive loss of hearing, but to find someone who respects and helps without being condescending is a blessing. And Clay? He figured he’d be alone, living in Sydney with his daughter and their dog, but meeting Ethan gives him hope. He’s never been into blokes before, but there’s just something about this young American. So much hope.
There are little things I enjoyed about the book. Clay’s classic Australian slang as Ethan struggles with the weird words. The truth that Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies ever. Crowded House, a Melbourne band. I was startled to realize Clay and I are contemporaries (I feel much younger, FYI). Oh, and Gilley. Gotta love Gilley. And Adam Gilchrist, cricket, Crocodile Dundee, and dozens of other little things that made the book enjoyable and educational.
The book is narrated by Joel Leslie and he’s such a perfect choice. He can do American, of course, but he’s also brilliant in Australian. He moves seamlessly between the two and so the book flowed beautifully. He’s one of my favorite narrators and this book is a perfect example of why. Needless to say I enjoyed the book and was thrilled the men found their way to a happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2018But this book was great. I loved the relationship between the MCs. And I especially loved the MCs themselves. How different they were from the normal "young and hot boy" meets "older and more experienced silver fox" types you tend to find in May/December romances.
The addition of Ethan's hard of hearing was also a very nice, refreshing twist. I haven't experienced anything like that, but I had a friend that was deaf of one ear and I could definitely see a lot of the little habits and gestures my friend had in Ethan.
I love the way Keira is able to make us readers feel like the characters do and experience what they do.
I had a complain about another book I read, where one of the MCs was supposed to be Scottish and the author thought that just because they threw the words "bloody" or "telley" in every seven chapters or so, we readers would buy that the character in fact was Scottish. But the answer is no. No, mate, we don't buy your bullcr*p. We need more than a couple of isolated words to locate ourselves and create the world you're setting up in our heads. Keira does this wonderfully.
She has a way of making the reader believe and imagine the world and the characters she builds, that I really love. Two of her books are by far my favorites in Gay romance because of that.
Here in this book I totally believed and didn't forget for a second that Clay was an ozzy man. Because KA used the slang, used the words and the expressions, not only when Clay was speaking, but also when she was narrating from Clay's point of view. That way you make your reader immersed in what they are reading and don't take them out of the flow, as it would happen if she would have written the book poorly like this other author, that narrated using American words, slang and expressions, and now and then popped a random british word in and made you go.... oh yeah right, this character is supposed to be from Scotland... had forgotten... for like, the whole book.
All in all I love KA's characters and world building. Why didn't I give this 5 stars if I have so much praise for the author? Well because the ending was a bit disappointing.
Not gonna spoil anything of course, but after all the buildup and the slowburn, I felt like I needed more of them as an actual, official couple. The epilogue jumped too far ahead in the future and was way too short. It ended rather abruptly. So that took a star away for me. But the book is brilliant. Totally recommend it. Please read it. You'll know it was worth it by the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely
It is a romantic novel which is easy to read and the development of the story is interesting. Even when you can expect the end, given the type of novel, you'd fall in love with both characters, that's for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars super

5.0 out of 5 stars Over-the-top but Authentic
I enjoyed reading this book immensly. Some bit and pieces were jarring or out of place, but those will be written below for anyone interested. In short, the characters are sweet, the story is nicely padded out without feeling empty or slow. The dedication given to the fore-story of Ethan's life is truly appreciated and gave the character far more depth than you'd usually see out of a typical romance novel. Given he is the younger of the two is also interesting the author went that way with building the characters.
However, even though Clayton is built with less fore-story, we learn about him during the journey. He's an open book like of fellow for the most part. An easy character to read in all senses and I think that helps keep the story from feeling long or drawn out.
There are a couple of bits and pieces of cultural information that was odd that broke the continuity. The main one for me was the use of creamer. It's not a product that is easily found on the shelves in the standard grocery store in Australia. Even less so at a fast food place. In fact, I can't recall it ever being an option in cafes or coffee shops either.
Clayton is a stereotypical outback guy, he uses colloquial language that I found even as an Australian who lived in the country, a little jarring. Whilst I've met a fair few people who do speak as Clayton does, it's certainly not the norm. Especially in places like Sydney and Melbourne where the struggle for elitism is thick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delizioso!
