Review

"A cracking whodunit from Albert and Rex. I laughed so hard l had tears streaming."

"Steve does it again. Albert and Rex once again find themselves caught up with another murder to solve. Rex gets it right and tries to tell his human who the culprit is but nobody is listening. Add to that he is always hungry and looking for tidbits, this time with hilarious results. Brilliant book as always."

"I've really enjoyed this series. They are well written, have good characters and are a feel good story series. I love Rex and Albert! Thoroughly recommend!"

About the Author

At school, the author was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, he won his first award. However, calling it his first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, he is having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and claims to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in his head as they clamour to get out. He lives in the south-east corner of England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

Specifically about the Paperback Version
I have not read through the book yet. This review is specifically about the printed paperback. It’s very strange. The text is very large and only takes up a few inches on each page. This makes the book incredibly thick and difficult to hold. This wasn’t advertised as large print and no images of the printed copy were shown.

I started reading books by Steve Higgs a few months ago following a recommendation by Amazon. And I haven't read anyone else since then. The stories are easy to follow but always have a few twists and turns that are unexpected. I'm fact I am reading instead of doing housework right now.

I highly recommend any book by Steve Biggs of you want to enjoy yourself!!

When I first started listening to this series, I was dismayed by the narrator. But just a little into that book, I knew he was exactly the one. These books are sweet without being sappy, and interesting all the way through.

feeling down after his wife's death, retired chief superintendent albert smith takes recently attained former police german shepherd, rex, on a culinary trip around britain. albert is learning to cook some his favorite well known british dishes by travelling to the places that made them famous, (i.e. stilton for the cheese, yorkshire for the pudding, etc) the story is told mostly in the regular way mysteries are told, but the asides from rex the dog are hilarious. the mysteries that occur in each location are good and the storyline's connection from book to book is good. at the end of each book is a short history of the featured dish and a recipe for either making it or incorporating it in something else. there is a short enjoyable author's note at the end as well.

Somehow, our old but clever Albert Smith and his loyal German Shepherd Rex Harrison always seem to stumble into their next adventure, murder inclusive. This one turns out not quite as dangerous for them
as usual but is nevertheless captivating and fluidly written. I love how the author creates all those characters
and, above all, Rex' comments to his human who is gradually learning to understand some of them. Steve
Higgs obviously knows dogs (I have one myself), that's why Rex is such a great character! I'm hooked on
this series, that's for sure - hope there will be more to come!

I buy the Albert and Rex Harrison (GSD) books for my wife - she loves crime novels but these are something else! It probably helps that we like German Shepherd dogs, but she finds the stories both interesting and very funny in places as the author tells us what Rex, the GSD, is thinking while Albert tries to solve the crimes. She's read 7 of the 9 currently available books, hopefully there will be one or two more coming soon

I really love this series of books. They make me laugh out loud. I must admit I have started looking at my dog and others and wonder if they are thinking about me the same way Rex does about Albert.😄 I've said before but I think this would be a great tv show.
