Impossible Things (Star Shadow #2) Kindle Edition
When Benji saw Diego for the first time, he never expected to fall irrevocably and painfully in love with him.
It wasn't something either of them could face, so he buried it. For ten long years.
Ten years during which he survived the pain of his own disastrous marriage and the heartbreak of watching Diego raise a child with another woman.
Through the heights of rock stardom and the depths of their band imploding, Benji's heart always came back to Diego. To his best friend. His bandmate. His secret desire.
Now, enough is enough.
He knows Diego loves him too. He knows they could have it all, no holds barred, with every string attached -- if only they can find the courage to bring their feelings into the spotlight.
It's time to tackle the impossible: life-altering, world-shaking, totally inevitable love.
Impossible Things is the second book in the Star Shadow series and should be read in order.

About the author

A lifelong Oregonian, Beth Bolden has just recently moved to North Carolina with her supportive husband and their sweet kitten, Earl Grey. Beth still believes in Keeping Portland Weird, and intends to be just as weird in Raleigh.
Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. She’s published twenty novels and six short stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Follow Up! 4.5 Stars! Friends to Lovers! Ten Years: Slowest Slow Burn Ever!
Waiting. Secret longing. Sexual tension. Best friends. Fearful. Stubborn. Those are all words to describe Benji and Diego. EVERYONE can see it, feel it, and almost touch it, and that includes Benji and Diego. Many years, and a failed marriage each, and it’s still there, circling around them looking to land. Along with their fellow bandmates, I’m dying for them to just DO IT ALREADY. Here’s the thing about fear: it’s powerful.
These are two very likable guys, and I’ve been rooting for them since the first book. They both deserve happiness and love, and I believe they will find it...if they just let themselves embrace it.
I enjoy that we get to see, and spend time with, the other band members as well. It’s always a treat to get updates on Leo and Caleb. They’re more than just bandmates, after all. I like how supportive they are to Benji and Diego, and how they also call them out when needed.
This is book two in this series, and it’s possible to read this as a standalone. Possible, but not advisable. There are things that happen in the first book, that are important to this story. The books also overlap in time, as well. I feel like the story needs to be read in order to fully enjoy it. Since the series, overall, is very enjoyable, it shouldn’t be a hardship to do so. I can’t wait to read more about all of these guys!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2022After reading the first installment of the Star Shadow series I wasn’t sure what to expect with book two. There was nothing wrong with the first installment mind you, I just felt that it lacked a little of the “oomph” that I’d grown accustomed to from several of my favorite authors in the M/M genre.
But I’m glad I decided to dive into the second book without hesitation, because where the first book lacked sizzle, this book made up for in heart. I know some complained that as a couple they didn’t feel the same connection with Benji and Diego as they did with Leo and Caleb, but I disagree as “Impossible Things” held a certain amount of depth for me that I felt “Terrible Things” seemed to lack.
Unlike the love story between Caleb and Leo, Benji and Diego’s love story has the added element both unrequited love as well as longing along with the bonus of getting to see just exactly how complicated stardom can be when you add family into the mix,
Diego the father of a small child, dealing with the sometimes difficult task of maintaining an amicable co-parenting relationship with Sophie, his ex-wife while at last getting to explore his slow burning, but ever present physical and emotional connection with his long-time friend and bandmate, Benji, while Benji himself is trying to navigate through his desire to both have Diego and rocket to the height his solo-career while maintaining his integrity (which often proves to be difficult, no thanks to his often meddlesome manager, Jay.)
In my opinion, Impossible Things was a meatier effort with more relatable characters and just the right amount of reality.
4.5 Stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2019Beth Bolden's, IMPOSSIBLE TINGS, is a perfect continuation in her Star Shadows series. As she has so successfully proven in her Kitchen Gods series, author Bolden is most adept at connecting her characters and their lives with each new story. This book in the series is about Benji and Diego, each of whom have a stockpile of what seem to be impossible issues to work out individually, before they can work on what they both want, together. This story is an emotional and touching journey to true love, that has the perfect outcome.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2020I didn’t enjoy book 2 quite as much as book 1. Benji & Diego have a good story, but the spark just wasn’t there for me quite as strongly as with Caleb & Leo.
This book also had quite a few errors that drove me batty, but I prevailed and finished it!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2020When you look at lives of professionals under the scope of the media, you inadvertently think they have it all...fame, fortune and happiness. As you'll see...you could be wrong.
Diego and Benji were immediately attracted to each other in their teens...but fought the attraction, going so far as to marry other people. 10 years later, divorces behind them, they finally have a chance at the happiness they both want. But greed from an associate, and desires for fame as well as fear, step in to keep them apart.
An emotional read. Be prepared!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2020Wow, Diego and Benji certainly took the long road to love. Although they are attracted to each other initially, they push it away, marry others, divorce, and then find themselves with another chance 10 years later. But there are still issues and complications that threaten to keep them apart. There is definitely plenty of angst and emotion to go around. I liked this book, and Benji and Diego's characters alright, but not as much as Caleb and Leo from Terrible Things (Star Shadow #1). Still, this is a very worthwhile and engaging read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2020Benny and Diego's tale is filled with angst and tons of hurt/comfort. Not to mention scorching hot sex. Their connection is undeniable and their chemistry is off the charts. Plus, Diego's daughter, Ana, is ADORABLE.
While Caleb and Leo may take center stage in the world of Star Shadow, it's Benji and Diego who have my heart.
Once you've read Impossible Things, it won't be hard to see why.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2020Especially when you are both quite sure. And yet, certainty won’t release the chains from your heart until you set it free to express itself. Love wins this time too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot rockstar romance.
Gritty, angsty, hot with raw emotion from both main characters. It took ten long years for Diego and Benji to get their act together and realise that they really were perfect for each other. For Benji to admit to himself he really was bisexual. Loved it, loved the first book. Looking forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story
I really liked Diego and Benji in the first book and was very happy to read their story.
I loved how we get to live through the tough journey they go through.
They are such great friends and their love for each other was so good to read.
I loved the rest of the cast coming back and I can't wait to see Felix's or Max's story next (hopefully in the same book)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and tender
Beth Bolden continued the Extraordinary Things series with two more lovable characters. Completely addicted to their story, I went in expectantly and was still blown away by the story.
Bolden created wonderful twists and angst that gave the story That extra something. The characters were well though out, their stories building and their connection amazing.
The ending gave me butterflies and I cannot wait for the next piece!
