But when their paths collide on the volleyball court, she’s left with a debilitating injury that jeopardizes her studies.

With her scholarship on the line, Amanda has no choice but to accept recovery aid from the same hottie who turned her down. Great Read and Character Developement
** spoiler alert ** This book was amazing and you fell in love with the characters from the start and they all feel like people you knew or would be friends with during college. The way Tricia Copeland developed the characters and you saw their growth had you rooting for Zack and Amanda towards the end. Amanda was quirky and relatable, she didn't ooze this confidence that you see in cute female characters or pull herself down to a point you felt irritated by her actions. She felt like any person in love for the first time struggling to communicate and express themselves when the attraction is palpable. I would have given this 5 stars because I flew through this book in a day but as I got toward the latter chapters I knew I was running out of chapters and that things were going to speed up. We got this long beautiful back and forth with Doug and Amanda with these sprinkles of Zack and even another gentleman but just when you're starting to fall in love with Amanda and Zack as a couple you don't get to see that exploration fully. The ending felt rushed to me but I would read this again and would love more on the Avery Sisters in general.

I normally read new adult fiction with a supernatural/paranormal twist, so I was not too sure what to expect from Is This Me?. I expected it to be a fairly light read but found myself blown away by Copeland's writing style and became thoroughly absorbed by the plot.

I liked Amanda; she's a level-headed young woman who occasionally deviated from the straight and narrow path that she was following when living with her parents. Copeland did a great job of demonstrating the struggle of maintaining a balance between study and life, and she made Amanda engaging and approachable to readers.

I despised Amanda's crush, Doug. Don't get me wrong, Copeland did a great job of developing his character. He comes across as an unempathetic d**k who has nothing better to do with his time than to string Amanda along. He reminds me of some of the men I've known, and nothing would have made me happier than to read about him taking a long walk off of a very tall building. I'm not too sure if Copeland wants her readers to think of Doug in this light, but I did.

I only mention my thoughts about Doug to demonstrate what a great job Copeland did with the plot and the characters. I was emotionally invested in the story and empathized with Amanda's situation.

I half-expected Is This Me? to be a fluffy read; however, it is pretty substantial and touches on several issues that young adults face when out on their own for the first time. It is also clean and brings up the issue of sex before marriage without coming across as preachy or goody-goody.

The book is marketed as "new adult;" however, I think a girl as young as 16 could read this pretty easily while avoiding bringing up issues that parents haven't already discussed with her. I have a sister-in-law who is still in high school and a Catholic; I could easily gift her this book for Christmas, in front of the entire family, without worrying about the content.

Overall this was a great read. The story flowed really well throughout the book. I did have a few issues tho...

    1. Lila or Lyla, the name of spelling changed a few times.
    2. Her friends pushing her into sports she knows she doesn't care for or tends to get injured playing.
    3. Her NEEDING a man in her life or she's depressed.
    4. Getting knocked over during volleyball, landing on her hand, yet having a brain injury. Then having 2 major surgerys but being released 2 days later.
    5. The setting would of been better in boarding school over college IMO.
    6. All the underaged drinking, even the parents providing the alcohol in some places.

Even with all this I really enjoyed the storyline and look forward to reading more from this author

Is This Me? (Being Me Book 1)
    By: Tricia Copeland
    5 out of 5 stars

The story Is This Me? (Being Me Book 1) by Tricia Copeland is a coming of age/new adult romance book. This is the story of Amanda. She has just started her freshman year at college when she finds herself injured both physically and emotionally. A crush that she has doesn’t go as planned and she also finds herself needing help with her day to day life. Amanda is someone that doesn’t like to depend on others and would rather try to take care of herself. She is playing down her physical injuries and not being truthful with her friends. Will she continue to keep her friends and family in the dark in regards to the hard time she is having? Will she continue to avoid her true feelings? I enjoyed reading Amanda’s story. It gives a very real depiction of how chaotic the beginning of college is and how emotional it can become. I also enjoyed reading about how many of the secondary characters want to be supportive and helpful to Amanda. The interactions between them often turn humorous. I really felt for Amanda when situations happen that upset her. She is a character that I wanted everything to work out for. This is the first book I have read by the author and the first book in a series. I look forward to reading more of her stories. She has written a book that is easy to read, full of emotions and one I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page.

Is This Me? (Being Me Book 1) by Tricia Copeland is a wonderful story!! This is not the first book I have read by this author and it will definitely not be the last. I love the author's writing style, she does such a good job drawing you in and making you feel like your experiencing the story. Amanda is just starting college and we get to go through all the emotions she's going through, meeting new people including a boy she has a crush on. As we know things aren't always that cut and dry when it comes to starting out new. We get to watch Amanda grow and mature in this story and try to balance what she wants people to know and what she doesn't. She is a very strong character and relatable. There are also supporting characters that are really fun to meet. I highly recommend this book, it is a very well thought out and written story. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!

Is This Me is the first book in the Being Me series by Tricia Copeland. It is a New Adult/college/romance- about choices, fitting in, self-discovery, finding out ‘where’ you belong, being true to yourself, dealing with adulthood, being away from the family home/parents, the newfound stress of college life, expectation, and dealing with everything life seems to throw at you.
Amanda is beginning her freshman year at college. She is smart, knows what she wants and has a plan. But then Doug turns it all on its head. He’s older, a senior, who has a lot to consider and a lot at stake- but who captivates her attention like nothing she was ever expecting. This leads to choices- choices have consequences- and so Amanda finds herself in a situation she could never have predicted. Things soon feel like they are spiralling out of control. Will they work it out? It’s worth the read to find out…
I liked the characters, they were interesting and well developed- although it did take me a little while to warm up to Amanda, but she did grow on me and I ended up liking her a lot more than I thought I would. Doug was great, but he did frustrate me quite a lot with his push-pull and indecisiveness. But overall their portrayals were realistic and believable. The story is set to continue in, “If I Could Fly” book #2.

    Thank you, Ms, Copeland!
