What an interesting story, I'm not one to care about animals in books but these two just made the story. I can really see the beginning of women coming into their own, still haven't quite made it 150 years later.

Jessica's best friend dies, leaving a few momentos & 2 dogs. Then Jessica receives a letter addressed to her friend. After reading it, she finds out that her friend had been corresponding to a possible future husband. Jessica wrote him back and he wrote back. Gradually they go to know one another and she travels to become his wife.
But so much more happens - misunderstandings, an girlfriend from years earlier and her spreading gossip, and danger. A lot going on in this short story of 216 pages.

This is an awesome heartwarming story. I could not stop reading it. It’s a clean Christian reading and so true to life. I loved the dogs and how they actually softened Michael’s heart.

I really liked this story. Chuckled many times throughout the story. Jessica had a strong personality but was more than willing to compromise up to a point, then you couldn’t push her any further. I liked that Jessica was shown to basically take charge of the farm while he went to town to teach children.
I liked the various parts the dogs played in the story: “inheritance “, comforters, friction, savior, parents.
I loved how each of his friends and many town’s people got very involved in these two people lives in good times and bad.
It’s definitely a story I would read again. Hoping to find the other three stories in this series.

And often become family. I LOVE cats and wouldn't get serious about anyone if they didn't at least like cats.

That said, I completely understood Jessica's issue about her dogs and committing to a long term relationship. Michael had been brought up in a way that he expected his will not compromise. I'm happy he learned his lesson.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a lovely story

I would give 6 stars and not just 5. I liked Jessica: a free spirit, educated, writes stories published in the local newspaper. She has her own beliefs and principles, she lives alone after the death of her parents and this is not proper for people’s opinions, but she does not care. All the same, she longs for companionship. So, Camille, her best friend, after the death of her father, moves into Jessica’s house. Camille is ill and Jessica takes great care of her until her last breath. Reluctantly, Jessica needs to sort through Camille’s belongings and finds a bunch of letters. They are love letters: Camille had never mentioned to Jessica she was a mail-order bride. Jessica needs to break the bad news to Camille’s husband-to-be Michael. They begin to exchange letters; at first, just to share the grief and loss for Camille, then their relationship develops into friendship. Eventually, Michael feels something attractive and comforting about Jessica and offers her to marry him. She accepts, because Michael seems kind and different from other men, he treats women as if they were his equal, with the respect that Jessica’s father had for her mother, understanding her passion for education. She moves to Copper Trail with the two dogs belonged to Camille and that Jessica loves, never expecting Michael not to like animals and ranching. He is a teacher and owns a ranch inherited from his father. Aunt Lydia, grown as a true lady, lives alone after the death of her husband and refuses to live with Michael, but after a bad fall, she surrenders. Michael worries about how his aunt might perceive Jessica’s behaviour, and he is wrong: Aunt Lydia adores Jessica as if she were her own daughter. But things never go smoothly as Jessica and Michael would like and their union is put at risk day after day. Life is hard and every day brings with it a challenge. Michaels risks losing the best thing that ever happened to him: the woman whom he truly loves, because of his actions and silly behaviour. Eventually, he realises the damage done to Jessica’s feelings and wants to make up for it. Will he be able to win back Jessica’s heart? The adventure of the last chapter is intriguing.

Jessica lost both of her parents and she moved in with her friend Camille and her two dogs. Camille dies and Jessica is so lost without her friend. She has the two dogs and loves them.
She finds out that Camille was writing to a man who is a teacher and owns a farm named Michael. She received a letter two weeks later and she reads the letter to her friend and decides she will let the man know that Camille died.

When a letter comes later they start to write back and forth they form a friendship. Michael’s aunt comes to live with him and Jessica decides she will join him and get married.
Of course she has her dogs with her. But he doesn’t care for dogs or any animal.

I enjoyed reading this book. I had a few laughs. Great story about loss and love growing.
