Joshua's Rainbow (Rainbow Key Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 344 ratings

Rainbow Key – An exclusive island resort, white sandy beaches, sparkling blue seas…

Except Joshua is struggling to pay the electric bill, they barely have any paying customers, and he still can’t afford the repairs from the devastating hurricane that struck three years ago. He also has less than three months to turn the resort around before the trustees march in and toss them all out.

And after being thrown away as a young teenager by the people who should have loved him the most, Joshua is terrified of being evicted from the only place he’s ever felt safe.

To make matters worse, their new guest is Daniel, a grumpy businessman who has been ordered by his doctor to take some time off before he has a heart attack from too much stress.

By an odd coincidence, Daniel owns a very expensive hotel chain that has been trying to buy the island for the past two years.

Then there’s Matt who just got released from prison, Charlie who ran away before he was locked up in a psychiatric hospital, and Ben, a famous model until a devastating house fire destroyed his face.

Welcome to Rainbow Key – held together by love, family, and sticky tape.

...happy tears. Very emotional story. I love stories about men (or anyone) that overcome and then give it back or pay it forward. I will admit it was at times very hard for me, Since I identified with one of the main characters. I too struggled with my appearance and self confidence.

I downloaded the next book, and will read the rest of the series.

A beautifully written hurt/comfort story with a delectable age gap, Joshua’s Rainbow is the first in Victoria Sue’s Rainbow Key series. Narrator Darcy Stark’s rich, warm voice pulled me in right from the get-go, and this story flew by much too fast. Luckily for me, there are two more episodes to come and I can’t wait to listen to them.

I really enjoy the compelling backstories Victoria Sue develops for her characters, and the powerful connections she establishes between them. When Josh and Daniel click, damn do they click!

These are wonderful characters and I challenge anyone not to fall in love with Joshua. After everything he’s been through in his life, he still has such a huge heart - I couldn’t wait to see him get his happily-ever-after. And slightly flustered, overworked Daniel needs to re-prioritize, and watching him find something of value in his life is very rewarding.

The way Daniel breaks down Joshua’s walls and helps him overcome his fear of intimacy is very romantic. And I love the way he shows his support of Joshua’s continual journey of recovery. Josh is a strong man and he’s working hard to make a new life for himself and others who need a safe place.

Victoria Sue always tells an amazing story, and she gives me everything I need in a romance with Joshua’s Rainbow. It's wonderful, and I’m moving right on to Charlie’s Rainbow which is also narrated by the wonderful Darcy Stark.

This was really very sweet. Some how Victoria Sue manages to put a little of everything into one story with out it feeling clunky or over the top. Even though this is a modern book with cell phones and such, this story is timeless. Unfortunately there will alway be a group of disaffected people who will need help. one can only hope that there will always be Joshuas to do what they can to make it a better place. And that they will always meet a Daniel who will throw in all the love and support they can. I just hope and pray this is based on real people and there is a place like Rainbow Key out there.
P.S. you will need tissues, they will be happy tears, but you will need tissues.

What a beautiful story, of over coming the damage your past can do. To understanding that how we perceive ourselves, often isn’t the way the rest of the world sees us. Your heart breaks for everything that Joshua has gone through in his life. You want to coddle Daniel and make him relax, and to take care of his health. And you want to wrap the rest of the characters in this story in cotton and protect them from the evil in the world. Except Paul, who can’t have enough bad things happen to him!

Being at the top of your game comes at a cost. For Daniel, it’s his health. Sent by his best friend and doctor, Alan, he’s to rest and relax on a private island. Arriving there, he’s intrigued with Joshua. But he hasn’t gotten his executive brain shut off yet and all he sees is a property he wants for his company. But the more time he spends with Joshua and the gang, the more he sees the value of the people and not the place.

Joshua is hanging on to the hotel by his fingernails. He needs to save the place, to protect and give his motley crew a place to be safe. He doesn’t understand what Daniel sees in him. Every time he looks in the mirror, he still sees the fat and damaged kid that was thrown out of his house. Yet with Daniel’s gentle persuasion, he starts to see his own self-worth.

This story has it all. Wonderfully written characters and a great story line. You are pulled into the story and you don’t want to leave. You laugh, cry and hurt when the characters do. You feel their every emotion. I can’t wait to read more of this gang.

    Joshua’s Rainbow by Victoria Sue
1st book in the Rainbow Key series. Contemporary M-M romance.
After suffering a panic attack, Daniel agrees to unplug at a small hotel on an island off the west coast of Florida. Daniel is worried about the lack of amenities but the first meal is wonderful so he decides to stay a bit longer. Daniel soon starts a relationship with Joshua and realizes the group is special and but under pressure by unscrupulous owners.

An emotional teeter-totter between Joshua and Daniel plus Matt, Charlie, Ben and the situations each has gone through in the past (tragic m-m situations). Load the current insecurities anyone can carry and it’s a bog of attempted emotional healing.
The author isn’t afraid of the tragic but remember this is a romance so of course, we are going to get an hea - for the main couple at least. You’ll have to read the rest of the series for the supporting men.

🎧 I alternated between a paperback copy and the audiobook narrated by John Solo. The narration was well done with distinct voices for the two main male characters and the emotional depth each went through. The most comfortable speed for this for me was 1.4 which was slightly faster than my preferred 1.2.

Normally I read only gay shifter romance books, but I have to admit, that I liked this book so much, that I'm going to buy the next book too. And I love the idea, that the island is now a shelter for LGBT kids and adults, who have problems in their lifes.

Compared to some of Victoria Sue's other books, this was more of a gentle stroll rather than a wild ride.
An enjoyable stroll mind and very romantic, with strong, likeable characters with secrets, mild angst and drama and a nicely flowing, believable storyline.
Looking forward to finding out more about the other residents of Rainbow Key.

Rainbow Key is the first book in a new series by Victoria Sue. In it we have Daniel the rich business man whose Dr decides he needs a break and packs him off to the Island. Straight into Josh's arms.
They tip toe around each other with secrets neither one of them want revealing.
Until they are revealed and due to a tragedy in Daniels life brings a big misunderstanding to the fore. They both think it's to late.
I thought this was a fabulous introduction to the series and i can't wait for the next one.
Victoria Sue just gets better and better.
