The Pyramid Builders, Book 3: Khaba Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

The third dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Egypt saw an extraordinary development of building techniques, from the simple structures of mud brick at the end of the second dynasty to the towering pyramids of the fourth dynasty. Just how these massive structures were built has long been a matter of conjecture, but history is made up of the lives and actions of individuals; kings and architects, scribes and priests, soldiers and artisans, even common labourers, and so the story of the Pyramid Builders unfolded over the course of more than a century. This is that story…

The throne of Egypt has passed to Khaba, an old man who seeks only to secure his family's position. Construction of a pyramid tomb is a secondary consideration, and the fortunes of those who desire to build them languish as he refuses further innovations. It is left to his grandson and heir, Huni, to dream of greater architectural glories.
Architect Den has achieved love, but at the cost of ambition. He and his burgeoning family struggle to survive, his relatives seeking out love of their own even as they look for opportunities to further their careers. The promise of a return to fulfilment is offered, but will they be able to grasp it?

Max is a published author of varying genres including historicals, a contemporary thriller, and a western.

He has lived all over the world, from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to Townsville, Queensland, Australia; from Gerrard’s Cross in England to Kingston, Jamaica; from Düsseldorf in Germany to Wellington, New Zealand; from Antwerp in Belgium to Collinsville, Illinois, USA.

Max has a Master’s degree, with Honours, in Plant Physiology, and has worked as a university lecturer and demonstrator, a research scientist, a school teacher, a technician, a quotes officer for a microscopy supply house, an assistant manager at Walmart and Max has even caught bumblebees for a living.

Max's main occupation these days is as an author. Having always had a great love of history and recently discovering writing, it made perfect sense combining the two, writing historical fiction – from ancient Egypt to World War II – but he is not limited to that genre. He has also tried his hand at horror, paranormal and westerns, and has plans to write fantasy and science fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journey through the magical world of ancient pharaonic Egypt
Reviewed in India on June 17, 2023
Max Overton is an acclaimed historical fiction writer on ancient Egypt. He authored 23 books on this subject including this one and I read all of them. His first 20 books cover New Kingdom, then Second Intermediate Period and then he started this 10 book series on Old Kingdom and this book is the third one.

His deep research on the subject always makes his book most readable. In this book though there is not much of pyramid building but I find it interesting to learn about the ancient Egyptian way of living, their medical and social practices, usual human vices and virtues. This is part of a series, if you don’t read the first two you will not enjoy or appreciate this one. I look forward eagerly to his next books of this series.
