Killing Art (John Kite Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 174 ratings

“They're killing art,” a woman tells PI John Kite. “You must stop them.” Then she’s gunned down on a smart city street. Kite is haunted by the woman’s words. But what did she mean? Is there a connection to the scam robberies Kite is investigating, or to the dead auctioneer floating in the ocean? Or even to the strange Chinese man obsessed with cigarettes? Kite’s quest takes him on a 1500 mile helter-skelter chase to where a volcano is about to erupt and he discovers not only a chilling international conspiracy but also an amorous female detective. Kite must stop the covert intrigue before it causes western economies to go into melt-down.
A “feelgood thriller”.

"There’s a lot going on in my crime thriller books," says author Stuart Doughty, "but there's also stuff you may not find in other writers' books. There are murders, heists, chases, but also quirky characters, snappy dialogue, and a sense of humour. My main character, British PI John Kite, is a tough guy who can fight, climb, drive fast and is a police-trained marksman, but he's also intelligent, amusing and thoughtful - even sensitive - on occasions. At age 19, Kite discovered his father was a professional criminal, so he changed his name, and changed his life to join the police. Now, as a PI, he still strives to atone for his father’s crimes. Specialising in hunting stolen artworks, he crosses continents to fight crime – and save the world from the mayhem threatened by despots, tycoons, warlords, and foreign agents.”

Stuart was born in London, England. He spent most of his life working as a Television Producer, making popular drama series and soaps.

... not just a man on a mission, but more like a dog with a bone it its teeth. Don't get in his way!

    Clearly five stars!

John is an ex police detective who retrieves stolen art. The night before he went to a talk on Chinese art. The interesting part was a woman outside with a placard. China is killing art. Insurance being hit with heist of home art and un cataloged art being taken. Art is easy to steal, though not very profitable with those unknown. Call came they wanted help from him.
Intriguing of the excitement, the unplanned moves that John Kite does, loving the chase of the job.
Was well written and keep the excitement to the end, and to enjoy

Another former-cop-turned-PI story, with a lot of spy stuff thrown in, but well done, intelligent , and up-to-date. Up-to-date spy stuff is not always easy to find.

I really enjoyed reading this story, it was written with good humor, is fast-paced, has great descriptions of people, places, feelings, actions, and to top it all has a very good plot. John Kite is the sort of character that is capable of laughing at his own actions and decisions and although he has great self-esteem, he does not do it all right all the time, which is a relief!!! I'm going to start reading the next book in the series to learn how he solves other mysteries.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love this series! The art theme is unusual and makes for an interesting and intelligent read wrapped in thrilling mystery.

John Kite is a fabulous main character - every bit as skilled and resourceful (and sexy) as James Bond, but he and the wonderful "supporting cast" of characters are well-developed and people I'd like to know.

I enjoy reading about the snippets of art history, as well as descriptions of the places where the action occurs. I love to travel, so highly enjoyed reading about the cross-continent trip that Kite made in this book, as well as the "explosive" ending!

Well worth your time to read this and all the Kite books! Thank you, Stuart, for yet another winning novel.

This is a great series. Each book is fast paced, action packed, a little romance to take the edge off and a great mix of characters. I throughly enjoyed this book and the previous books in this series and look forward to the next.

Kite is a believable leading man in this international art based novel that was intriguing and hard to put down. My first read in this series but I am definitely going to read the earlier books next.

I liked the pace, the detail, the different venues of this book. But most of all, I find the character of John Kite quite irresistible, as do the females who fall into his life. Just don’t believe that they don’t want to stick around! I certainly would.
