This first in this series (note I read the second before the first!)will keep you turning the pages. The action and connections between the people is amazing. You can really feel them as they play one against the other while trying to find the serial killer. Adele Sharp lost her mother to a brutal serial killer and she has not been able to get those visions out of her head. She is bound and determined to get this one even if it means leaving the US and traveling to France and then Germany-all countries she had lived in at one time or another and spoke fluently in each language. There are actually three surprise happy endings in this one after the non stop action!

    I read for enjoyment. Whether I agree with it or not,politics is not enjoyable. The first book in the series was very good and I looked forward to the second one. But the second one was an exposition on his view of Gitmo and that was not entertaining. So I deleted the rest of the books.

    I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Agent Adele Sharpe. Her life story was different than in other books that I have read. It was nice getting to know the character, her life, and the motivation behind her choice of career paths. I loved thenfact that the main character was a strong woman.

    My first series with Blake Pierce was Jessie Hunt and we are waiting for more of her books to come out. Then I read all of the Keri Locke series and now we are reading Adele Sharp and what a series I believe it will be if the first one is the one to measure this series by. I definitely love that Adele Sharp is a citizen of the world. That her citizenship is made up of a French mom and an American father. Adele was born in the USA when her mother was on a trip. She lived in Germany the first 12 years of her life and then in France for 15 years and the last 5 in USA. She was living in San Francisco with her boyfriend Angus when the story begins. She had been on the case of the Benjamin Killer. Adele is like her mother blonde hair and beautiful. She spoke fluent French and German. She has worked for the FBI for five years. She was recruited by the DGSI from college and the first case was one of her mother. Her mother had been killed on a bike route. She had been carved up artistically. She bled out when Adele saw her mother she was looking up at her bleeding from the eyes. She was killed by the Spade Killer so we are led to believe and the person never was caught. Adele is determined that since she could not solve her mother's murder this person who is killing people, not because of a certain type but because of their age. The killer was using some type of paralytic drug to paralyze the victim while he carved them up. She goes home and her boyfriend is waiting for her she thinks to get engaged and this is where the story really begins. I loved this story. The characters are begin developed in this story we meet her supervisor in US in the San Francisco office was Agent Lee and then her mentor in Paris Agent Robert Henry who she stayed with in Paris when she was first began at the DGSI. He was like a father figure and he was her mentor. Then there is a new partner at the DGSI John Renee. I am glad to become immersed in the world of Adele Sharp which will, it seem take us from USA to Europe, in especially France and Germany. I really enjoyed this introduction to Adele Sharp, if this story is any indication of how this series will be, we are in for a wild ride indeed. Loved this book.

    So I read this first book in a series that seems to never end...Then, I skipped to book number 10, thinking this is where she finally faces her mother's killer. I like this writer, but don't feel the need to read books 2 - 9, maybe not even beyond. I haven't finished book 10 yet, but almost done. I wanted to stop and review this one because of similarities in them that kind of bothered me. Hence the 3-star rating.

    First, we are talking about highly trained agents, that I'm sure are being put through the ringer in training. And yet, for some reason all of that seems to go out the window when it gets to how they handle capturing dangerous criminals. So they split up to "cover more ground" in capturing said dangerous criminal, and that bothers me. One woman alone without backup is insane. No matter how good she can be. Second, she seems to always be the one that gets to him, and then, well, she gets beat up, gun askew, blah blah blah. Where is the training on how to apprehend discreetly? You see a victim tied to a chair, you don't just run to that victim and lose sight of your surroundings, you make sure there is no one around to crack your head open. That's something an amateur would do. Then, of course, her partner shows up when she's almost killed or losing the battle and saves the day. Cause he's a big, bad, strong dude! Riiiight! Now I'm at the end of the 10th book, and lo and behold, she suggests that they again split up to cover more ground. Seriously? And the serial killer that has gotten away for years? Not even sure how this is going to end, but probably either her partner somehow saves the day again, or the crazy dude somehow gets away in and walks in to the sunset.

    It's kind of an MO when these writers spew out long series, especially their endings. Just once, I want to see the good guy do what Indiana Jones did when the guy with the big sword is waving it around like it's gonna be a long match, while Indy just pulls up his gun and shoots him. Classic! The best ever! Can we get some books to do the same without the drama of long and winded dialogue and fight between the good and the bad before it ends? I guess not...

    I've read the first books of almost all Blake Pierce series up to now, and I start to be a bit tired; all books have a female FBI special agent, usually in the role of profiler. She has to find a serial killer and she always does, in the end, usually in a physical confrontation, resulting in the death of the killer and severe damage to the agent.
    So there is not very much suspense, once you have read one book, you know them all. Anyway the characters may be interesting and sometimes there are some unexpected turns to the story.
    In this book, however, the story is completely flat; arrived at 50 % of the book, we know nothing, one or two persons murdered, but we know nothing about the killer and very little about the FBI agent. We only know that she lived in Germany, France and the USA. The solution is rather casual and not due to the intuition or intellect of the agent. Wasted time and money !
