Lie With Me (Stonewall Investigations Miami Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 839 ratings

OLIVER BRIGHTLY:

Ok, so imagine this.

I’m halfway across the world in a bar in London celebrating my last year of vet school when I spot the sexiest silver fox I’ve ever seen. We flirt, we kiss, and I have one of the best nights of my life. I’m sure I’ll never see him again, which is why I don’t give him my real name, even though I’m down to give him my address, phone number, and throw in my social security number just to be sure.

Weeks later, I walk into Stonewall Investigations in Miami looking for help and who do I find?

A certain silver-haired fox with a cocky grin and an accent that makes my knees melt.

So… about that help...

BECKHAM NOBLE:

I went back to London so I could bury my father and put our rocky past to rest. I wasn’t expecting to get handed a letter by a woman I’d never seen before, addressed to me in my father’s handwriting.

Opening it on the spot would be the emotionally mature thing to do. Drinking the evening away at a pub would be the emotionally therapeutic thing to do.

I chose the latter. That’s where I met one of the most interesting and attractive guys I’d ever chatted with, one I wanted to get to know from his head to his toes. One I was sure I would never see again.

Cut to three weeks later, when the object of my intense desire walks into my office looking for help with a murder that had been haunting him for years.

This was going to be an interesting case.

Lie with Me was an exceptional addition to the Stonewall Investigations Miami Series! This story sucked you in from the very beginning. Max Walker has the literary talent of creating incredible characters who are believable and likeable. Both Beck and Olly are personable, flawed and human.

I just love the trope of people meeting, having a connection, going their separate ways and then meeting again - this book did NOT disappoint. Olly and Beck met across the pond in the UK and the meet/cute was exactly that - cute. A brit and a Yank meet in a bar.......Unbeknownst to Beck, Olly is actually the brother of someone he knows. It isn't until Olly comes looking for help at Stonewall does Beck find that out. Poor Olly, a past brutal experience has continued impacts of his life and Beck comes in and works with Olly to find resolution.

I loved how they interacted with each other. As with all Max Walker books, there is a lot of emotion, snark, humor and full on action. Not to mention Miami hot and sexy steamy. These two had wonderful chemistry with each other and I was rooting for them from their first meeting. Olly's story is heartbreaking. Without giving away any spoilers, you kind of figured it out early; however, that totally did not distract from the story at all.

You will not be disappointed with this latest installment. Max Walker knows how to write a story and this book will keep you pulled in from the first chapter to the last. I would recommend reading Bad Idea first. There are characters in the first book that make a wonderful appearance in this one. I'm sure we'll see Beck and Olly again, because we know there is going to be more......and I can't wait! This book is Deada$$..........read the book and you'll understand what that means to Olly and Beck.

Silver fox Beck has resolved to being alone the rest of his life, at 40 that's a terrible perspective. While in another Country there is a chance encounter brings about some feelings he not sure how to handle. Oliver is out & about with his best friend Will when one decision and the response seems irrelevant but puts a missing link into place that definitely impacts his future. I don't want to "spoil" the mystery, so I'll just say you will enjoy it throughout but then end whew!!! MM Steamy Romance.

I loved this book so so much! I knew I would love Olly's story but I just didn't know how much. Beckham is absolutely perfect for Oliver. Their story is full of love laughter and so much joy. Don't get it wrong this book has a lot to it but as far as their personal experience it magic. Oliver is the brightest of lights Beckham always new he wanted but never thought he would get our deserved. Oliver needs strength and stability in his life and someone who accepts his crazy ways. They make each other more than happy and it's an amazing story to read!!! Love love love!

I'm relatively new to this author.

I had bought and read the first of the Stonewall Investigations Miami series, Bad Idea over 2 years ago, but didn’t know this would be a series or that there were going to be any other books in the series.

I remember thinking “Bad Idea” was a good story and an OK book. The author’s writing was good but not enough to run out and by all his books. In any case, when I purchased book 2 and 3 of the series, Lie With Me, and His First Surrender, I did not even remember that I had gotten the first book years ago.

I thought the story of Lie With Me was really good and I enjoyed it a lot! The authors writing is better than average, better than most, but the slang, both US and English, as well as the story narratives using artists, lyrics, shows, stories etc. were indecipherable more than half the time.

Unfortunately, the author goes on and on, too often detailing graphic sex scenes between the characters, almost ruining the story for me. After one or two detailed graphic sex scenes, why can’t the next one be a sentence or two, that the reader knows they had sex again, but not have to slog through pages and pages depicted sex! I ended up having to skim through pages and pages and even chapters!

At first I had thought Max Walker was a woman author, because it seems about 80% of gay romance MM authors weirdly tend to be women. And, many of them are so good at it, that it’s a bit hard to understand.
Anyway, it’s also the case, that many, to most, of these MM authors must think that gay guys have to have sex every other half hour or more.

I mean, I know guys in general have a reputation of having sex on their minds a lot, but come on? I, and most gay guys I know, can actually think logically and of other subjects or topics, and actually have non sexual thoughts and even get through entire days, without thinking about or obsessing on sex.

However, most MM authors often depict their gay guy characters as sex starved fanatics that can’t go an hour with out rutting against each other!. I mean I don’t mind reading the graphic play by play in a story, where the characters are initially investigating one another physically, but some authors go on and on, for chapters, and in detail, over and over and over. And it gets really really ridiculous. If I wanted to read porn, I’d buy porn! Don’t insult me, or my intelligence, with constant graphic detailed sex in a story. It really destroys my enjoyment of the story and the author!

Anyway, such was the case with both Lie With Me and His First Surrender. It’s a pity because the actual romance and especially the mystery and investigations in the stories were truly written really wall.

I found that the Stonewall Investigations Miami books were actually written after the main Stonewall Investigations series’. Though the stories in those books seemed to be about characters in their late 30’s or early 40’s and I’m a bit more attracted to younger guys. So, I’ll likely not buy any of that series.

I’m not a prude when it comes to kinky sex, but when I spend time reading an MM romance book, I like to be able to read about and relate to the characters. And, since I’m pretty plain vanilla when it comes to a relationship and sex, I’m monogamous and basic. So, when I began to read the 3rd and final book in the Stonewall Investigations Miami series, His First Surrender, I was more than a little disappointed when I began reading about one of the main characters BDSM sex room. I’m only half finished with the book, but I know I’ll be skimming most of that kind of scenes’ graphic descriptions.

And, because of that, even though the author is a talented writer, I won’t be buying or reading any more of Max Walker’s books.

What can I say that hasn't already been said...Beckham and Oliver's story was amazing from start to finish. You could feel the emotions right away. To me at least. There is definite angst with a healthy dose of uber sweets. These two men are meant to be in each other's lives, living and loving one another. Max has this way of making you feel as though you're seeing and experiencing what his MC's are. Never a disappointment reading his books. I gratefully received an ARC copy of this book 🎉

I just can’t get enough of this series. Oliver and Beckham’s story had me from the get go. It’s one of those can’t put it down, don’t want to adult stories. The chemistry between these two MCs is off the charts. I adore this authors stories as they always capture your attention with the writing style and
storyline. Now I’m not going to give anything away as my favourite part of the Stonewall books is the mystery solving and this one was amazing as I could not figure out who it was and I usually can. Absolutely brilliant and definitely going in my reread folder

Another good read from Max Walker, which follows on from his earlier books. This could be read as a standalone, but I have to say that I've enjoyed the whole Stonewall Agency series from the beginning, and they're all worth a look at.

One thing I really liked about this is that it straight away draws you into the main characters, Beckham and Oliver. As you get to know them, it becomes apparent that both of them are living in the shadow of their pasts. Oliver especially, as he partially blames himself for the terrible unsolved murder of his boyfriend years before, memories of which continue to haunt him.

This is the crux of the story, as Beckham attempts to solve the murder. There's a few twists and turns along the way and although I did have an inkling of who was behind the murder, it was not until very near the climax of the book. I was very satisfied with the ending, and am already looking forward to the next book.

Another hugely entertaining book from Max Walker. Two delightful characters thrown together by tragic circumstances create a story that will have you turning the pages as quickly as possible. I particularly loved Olly, the nearly-qualified vet for his humour, his lovable nature and his vulnerability. He is a beautifully drawn character. The detective Beckham is an interesting guy with a troubled past whose intelligence and humour is brought out very well. A great read, with great pace and a clever plot.

I enjoy the book although got quite frustrated with typos and plot error. Good storyline and characters and pretty nice flow.

I initially gave it 4 stars while I was 80% in, but got annoyed so much by plot errors that I changed it to 3.
