One of the funniest books you will read
It is if the authors of A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens), Jeeves and Wooster ( P. G. Wodehouse) and Mission Impossible (Peter Barsocchini) had collaborated to write the funniest thrilling heist movie they could come up with and The Lost Inheritance Mystery was the result.

About the author

Former global adventurer, currently a writer of thrillers, with a mind full of monsters. Ben Hammott is a British author living in England with his human family and more than the average number of cats.
Most of his published works fall under the broad category of ‘thriller,’ getting there by way of horror, fantasy or historical mystery. Two of his many novels, ‘Hell Ship: The Flying Dutchman’ and ‘Ice Rift,’ are now available on audio.
Though now firmly based back in the UK, he wrote most of his books while travelling across Europe, until a certain global pandemic forced a change of direction. Until that point, he could genuinely style himself as something of an adventurer and explorer, making a few small discoveries and finding his way into locations not seen by the public in decades (including one small misadventure in a dinghy that’s still a sore spot for the person who leant it to him).
When he’s not writing, Ben spends his time exploring his passion for resin moulding and 3D printing, and constructing ever more new climbing places for his cats, while insisting to anybody who will listen that he’s not a cat person.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2016Can't believe I read this after Ice Rift. What a complete 180° turnaround for Ben Hammott. No aliens, monsters or fighting for your life in this book. It is full of mystery, suspense & a whole lot of humor. I couldn't stop laughting at many of the bizzard twists & turns in this book. Can't wait for the next book in the "butler" series. This is a great change of pace mystery/thriller, I am sure you will enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016Over all, the book is amusing, with some silliness thrown in. Furtive's malady was over done, but there was a reason. Hammott says there will be future books with these characters. I hope Furtive's problem is either dropped or solved, because I really got tired of reading about it. The banter was entertaining. I liked the way the book ended on the beach.
There needs to be a little more proof reading, mostly a few misused words.
I plan on reading the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2017This would make a great movie!
Enjoyed the story and the vision of Ben's imagination.
Looking forward upcoming adventures.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2018This is an enjoyable Victorian-style mystery story, fashioned in a manner that aims to emulate the style of Dickens’ portrayal of the people and society of the time. The writing and character development are infused with humour, and the story itself is interesting, although the pace of the story is at times a little slower than I would have preferred. The characters are likeable, even if their names are somewhat contrived, albeit in a humorous way. As the story draws to an end, Hammott delivers a series of clever twists that add to both the irony and the Dickensian humour of the book.
The final chapter, though, brought with it a complete change of pace, which I suspect the book may have been better off without - there is nothing wrong with this chapter in itself, but i think it may have served better as the first chapter of the next mystery misadventure for these characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2017Started out a little slow but worth reading to the end. The book is really great.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2016How can the man who wrote Ice Rift write this? One filled with terror, this one with mind blowing humor. The story is absurd, but believable nonetheless. The characters like those you might find in a takeoff on Alice in Wonderland. The humor nonstop. The action over the top. And an ending promising more nonsense in a second book. I cannot wait for the gang to go hunting for pirate treasure!

This is one of the best books I've ever read-I have read quite a few of Ben's book and every one I have read so far have been excellent
This one though is so darkly funny I have no doubt it would make an amazing movie
So excited for the sequel to be written and hopefully even a whole series

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quirky Must Read
A very quirky mystery. Ben Hammott is a master story teller. His vivid descriptions of his characters and scenes makes them so real you can clearly visualise them, relate to them and oddly even smell them.
There are surprises aplenty keeping you interested and wanting, nay I say, needing to read on.
Ben's droll and dry sense of humour not only humanises his characters it make the unlovable lovable.
I look forward to reading more by this prolific author.
