A Love Like Fire: High Fantasy M/M Romance (Juxtan Book 1) Kindle Edition
But Hadrian is a mystery, and harbors untold secrets. He hails from an island inhabited by sorcerers and has come to Caledon’s city to recruit the mercenaries for a well-paying job offered by Hadrian’s father. Except the job is a lie. Hadrian is far more dangerous than his disposition suggests, and what he wants with Caledon and the mercenaries of Rhiad will forever change the land and set in motion a prophecy that will bind two men together in love, lust and hatred...until death.
This is a re-written, re-edited version of the title, The Sorcerer's Betrayal.

Also loving the age gap going on in this fantasy world of sorcerers and mercenaries. Looking forward to the second book.

Just, wow!
I loved and felt every emotion conceivable for the characters within.
The dynamic between lovers was soul filling, and the one between father and son was soul crushing.
So my question now is, what coping mechanism am I supposed to use to process all these feelings I'm left with?... Humm?
Thank you for a great read Tricia Owens!
Please hurry with more. xx
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024!!!SPOILERS!!!
I love Tricia, and I wish her the best and I know from reading her stuff that she's very talented. But I'm reading this book, which is the updated version of what was originally called The Scorcerer's Betrayal, and I'm saddened and disappointed to see that Hadrian's innocent reluctance is no where to be found, and he's been changed into someone who sleeps with Caledon at the drop of a hat, making the story more typical of disposable romance with weak characterization and predictable sex. There's nothing wrong with those things, but compared to the original, incredibly compelling story, this one seems tragically watered down and written to appeal to those who value erotica over powerful story telling.
All that genius, creative tension has been thrown away in favor of a "sex sells" mentality. Erotica can be great, but not when it's everywhere and overdone without any rise in quality. Hadrian was unique and charming in his ability to cause Caledon to chase him, without giving in until the reader was completely invested and attached to his tragic backstory. It just made the sex so much more exciting because his character was fully fleshed out and I was fascinated with his complex balance of innocence and conflictedness at the same time. Best of all, we got the chase of one man trying to seduce the other, and when done well, that's better than sex. Hell, that's foreplay.
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I bought the first 3 books, anticipating the story I fell in love with, only to find it downgraded to fit a niche that is, apparently, best represented by bare chested men on the covers. Guerrr! Not you too, sweetie. I promise you are such a great writer that you don't need to stoop to those boring tricks to sell your books. Let the writer dominate, and not the competition to churn out the same old generic male muscled depictions. You're better than that!
When I see those covers, I do not get excited about the story inside. I get bored on the spot, and I LOVE two males who get hot, rough, and heavy, I just need them in a great story that's more than predictable fluids.
I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover (this book cover is great by the way, I'm just talking about Tricia's newer book covers trending in the stereotypical direction), but if a writer is going to let their story be represented by one of the millions of copycat, hairless "alpha-cowboy" pec pics, then that tells me they were never interested in crafting anything close to the thrilling tale I'm looking for. Writer, believe in your craft and yourself, and stop doing this! No man I've ever fantasized about, has a chest like that.
Tricia is a masterful writer, but her compromise in quality is so frustrating. May she realize that if she really remained true to her originality, her readers would buy her books even if the covers only had the planest title text on them. I will await the day she discovers that her originality is her greatest power, and get back to it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2020So I’ve been putting this book off for literally months and I finally came back to it I read about 30% of it then ignored it for awhile because the romance came off strong and fast and I didn’t really like Caledons personality because he was a man whore. I like Hadrian but he was a little naive. I love how the view then switches to hadrians dad and you get to read on how Hadrian grew up. It was really sad and I now need to know what’s next? I shouldn’t of put this book away I should’ve kept reading it’s pretty good and got me hooked. This book needs more readers and reviews
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2019I’m absolutely in love with this book. It has me ensnared and desperate for the next installment. The characters of Hadrian and Caledon have the most gorgeously sexy chemistry and the twist at the end - my heart is BROKEN!
Hadrian’s story is so compelling and heart-breaking. I’ve come to love these characters and their journey. I’m rooting for this love story!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2019I wish this book was longer, but at least number two is already out. This is a fairly dark read with lots of magic, betrayal, and a horribly, painfully, emotionally abusive father. Good fantasy start
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2020This series is my favourite of Tricia's work and it's easy to see why. If you're not hooked by the halfway point I'll be shocked.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just a tedious read
The book started on but by chapter there I was bored. By chapter six O decided I had other books on my kindle that must be better than this.
