Love By Number Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 149 ratings

Aidan doesn’t have the best record with relationships, but he’s had a lifelong love affair with baseball. Player stats and computer simulations make sense. People don’t. But when he needs a ride to the World Series, he must rely on another person: a sexy artist who is as spontaneous as Aidan is predictable.

Jesse doesn’t care about baseball. As an artist, he'd rather paint a player than watch him at bat. But his grandpa loves the Kansas City Royals, so he takes him to every home game. He has no idea a fender bender in the parking lot is about to deliver new inspiration in the shape of a man with a whole bag of quirks.

Despite their differences, Jesse and Aidan hit it off, and their sexual chemistry is fantastic. But when Aidan's numbers betray him, Jesse isn't prepared for the fall-out. If Aidan continues to put his passion for baseball stats above everything else, he could miss out on the most important numbers in life: the sum total of smiles, kisses and laughs they could share in a journey of a lifetime.

4.5 entertaining stars*. Without question, this is my favorite story by this author!  Two guys meet unexpectedly and discover that their preconceived impressions of each other might require reconsideration.  Aiden noticed the Sexy Artist Guy drawing during the baseball games. He was always sitting with an older man; perhaps a grandfather. The colorful and interesting Jesse tried to speak to Aiden once, earlier at a game and was ignored. When Aiden was focused on his numbers, statistics, he was difficult to distract. By the time he realized that someone was speaking to him, it was often too late to respond. Besides, what on earth could that hot, gorgeous guy want with Aiden?

There is much more to Jesse than initially portrayed.  His motto of one and done protected him from being left again and allowed him to control the situation. Yes, he is an artist but even this must be on his own terms.  Jesse's devotion to his grandfather was undisputed and a key measure of his character.

Learning to communicate was not in the plan for Aiden but perhaps he used his "It's how I am" excuse a bit too much.  The question is, did he want to change.   Aiden's life is structured and living with his mother is very safe. Safe but boring and lonely.

I really enjoyed watching Aiden's developed awareness of how his behavior affected Jesse as well as his interpretation of Jesse's expressions and actions.  Well Done!  This is definitely one to recommend to your friends!

I usually enjoy this author’s writing so I was not disappointed with this story. I was very sweet with likable MCs and very little angst. I particularly liked how Ms Jamison wrote Aidan’s character as being on the autism spectrum and how Jesse accepted him as he was (for the most part).
The writing was solid although one does need to suspend their attachment to realism quite a bit. Example: funny how Jesse’s grandfather magically acquires tickets to two World Series games two days before the first game and, those tickets just happen to be for seats right next to Aidan’s seat!
While I applaud Aidan’s character, there were times I had a hard time believing he was 27, especially when he was with his mother. Those times he seemed more childlike and not quite able to function on his own.
I also would have liked this to have been a bit longer so we could watch Aidan’s and Jesse’s relationship grow. Instead we’re told more about it than actually witnessing it.

What a lovely book. It was a fast, but pleasant read and I had my joy with Jesse and Aidan.

Both guys are the total opposite; Aidan with his fixation to numbers and the statistics of the baseball game and Jesse being an artist/bartender. Where Jesse is playing the field (pun intended ;)), Aidan relies on solid numbers.

Both met quite unconventional and their journey starts even more surprisingly. When Jesse crashed into Aidan's car, it is clear: Jesse - with the push by his grandfather - had to help him.

The book is full of funny scenes, sparked with unique characters who have all their little quirks and flaws. But they are super lovely and charming with having these. :)

With Aidan being on the edge of being diagnosed as autistic, as it was called in the book, he shows a lot of the signs and he confuses Jesse several times with his - for Jesse - different, unexpected behaviour. The reader knows about Aidan, Jesse don't, so we see Jesse stumble and both guys are having a melt-down at some point. I really liked the tension, the "drama" behind, it showed the compassion but also how difficult it can be when you don't know your "partner" is autistic or at the edge of it and you think he is "just" being overreacting or a bit strange. Aidan is not, he is totally fine how he is, though Jesse have to get this first - and in all his actions, though he hurts Aiden at some point, he is never malicious. He isn't just aware of it. Of course that being no excuse it shows what's the matter is.

It is a steady process, but not only for Jesse but for Aidan too, to see how the dynamics in a relationship works; and first both are just interested in getting of, having an intimate relationship.
The emotions are there and I really liked how D.J. Jamison showed them, both guys reflect over their actions, not just Jesse is to blame but also Aidan and we see it takes both sides to have a functional, healthy relationship.

We also get an insight on how Aiden labels himself, he confesses in the book he is bisexual and likes sex, but not just only sex, so, being "used" is a huge problem for him. I asked the author and she confirmed that he is bisexual but wouldn't deny he isn't pansexual either. So, in fact we can say (if I get her right) that Aidan doesn't really care about the labels or at least it's not the most important for him.

With all this combined, the book was refreshing different; I really liked the uncommon combi of sports and mathematics, I never knew there was a term for baseball analysis, sabermetrics, but I've to say I'm not very fond of mathematics in general, so I black things like that normally out. :D This book gave an insight of how this can works and it was pretty impressive. :) I also really liked the way how D.J. Jamison displayed Aidan as well as Jesse, and especially Aidan is a character I really liked in the book.

5 out of 5 stars for this, the diversity on so many parts of the story was great and I think it stands a bit out of the mass. I really recommend it, because I also see the author did a lot of research and knows what she is talking about. In the forword she mentions that parts of it are ownvoice.

I enjoyed the story. I'm an avid fan of DJ Jamison and love her books. I have every book I could find of hers. That said. I liked the back and forth between the couple. I didn't understand Aiden's anger over baseball and numbers. Then all the sudden he can let it go because he realized Jesse was more important. It seemed kinda forced, but I liked the story in general. I'd recommend for a quick read.

What can do say.... this book was just so adorable! I love it beginning to end! Read it twice when I got it. Enjoy it so much, definitely will be rereading! I feel they grew with each other and it was so sweet to me!
And I just went back to see what grabbed me and it was the way the author captured & was sensitive to their individuality! Aiden's need for the way he did things because how it kep him grounded & calm, and then Jesse trying to understand and not rush judgment! It was perfect, I really enjoy this story and got a little more understanding of a person in Aiden's situation. Great job by author, she's a definite buy for me!

Improbable but sweet story with likeable characters. Actual book ended at 89% which means a good chunk of the text is promo for other books.

Oh, I loved this , an artist and a mathematician, both love baseball but for different reasons. Jesse , an artist, loved it because his gramps did, Aiden, because of the mathematical statistics... how could they ever work? Well written with just the right amount of angst..

I devoured this book in one sitting and would have been quite content to sit for a lot longer. If Aiden 'knew he was a bag of quirks', I should admit to being as odd as a box of frogs before I say that all Aiden's quirks rang true to me. I think D.J. Jamison did a beautiful job of capturing them while also creating a very endearing character. I adored that Jesse thought he was worth trying to work out and was willing to put the effort in to do so. They might have been polar opposites in the right brain/left brain sense, but this isn't as unlikely to work as you might think. I couldn't be more right brained & my son more left, but this seems to allow me to fathom him in ways that more literal, practical people can't. Consequently, I found Jesse's willingness to work with Aiden's quirks - rather than despite them - entirely in keeping with Jesse's character. Quirks aside, I loved them together and was rooting for them all the way. It's a lovely story, written with charm and wit. Special mention must go to Gramps, whom I adored from the moment we met.

Contains: autistic character, artist character, baseball stats and a road trip.

This book was well writing, the dilemma of autism person dealing with their own barriers each days are very interesting and a little bit awkward for the characters who didnt know. I was expecting to the characters to connect the dots (pun intended) and figure out that the lover is autistic but he didnt have to know to fall on love with all his perks. I also love the gramps explanation on the autistic. Sweet, fast reading, short reading and a hea. Really recommend
