Love Tokens (Trice City Lovers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 136 ratings

Chanda is the Lord of Honey Flower House, which caters to those who have a taste for the paranormal between the sheets. Being an incubus makes him all the better at the job, even if it also leaves him lonely.

Then a demon appears on his doorstep in search of a missing person, and Chanda is quickly reminded why he prefers the relatively quiet life as master of a pleasure house—but is also reminded of a bitter past he's tried to leave behind and dreams he gave up on a long time ago.

Megan is a long time resident of queer fantasy romance, and keeps herself busy reading, writing, and publishing it. She is often accused of fluff and nonsense. When she's not involved in writing, she likes to cook, cross-stitch, harass her cats, or watch movies. She loves to hear from readers, and can be found all over the internet.

Chanda and Azar are abruptly drawn in to palace intrigue that turns more complicated the more they investigate. As they work together, they are also drawn powerfully to each other. I’d love to read more of their story!

Azar and Chanda's story is a fun take on how a demon and an incubus woo. The editing is getting better but you will still find "fill" when it should be "feel" and "flood" when she means "blood", but what can you do when your editor is your sister....

Megan Derr delivers for me every time. From her hundred word drabbles to her sprawling epics, every single time she delivers a story with heart. Her characters are, for me, easy to love and each story quickly takes its place on my comfort-read shelf.

In Love Tokens, Derr does not disappoint. I enjoyed the hell out of this short book.

I was sadly disappointed with this book. I got this book because it was new and had only one review. I thought I'd be able to give it a raving review and encourage more people to read but I can't. Of the six categories I rate books on this book didn't get one 5/5. The plot progression was fast and didn't seem well developed. The story itself was, for the most part, difficult to follow; again being too fast. The characters weren't anything special, though I like the new take on demons and incubi. If there was any character growth it was beyond my notice. As for spelling and grammar, there were a few errors that were few and far between.

So with that said, the question is if I would recommend this book... Yes. All in all it is an interesting take on the relationships between demons, incubi and humans. And for a simple short story I feel like I can put up with the flaws to read more of this. Is it something for a serious reader who wants an in depth and complex story that they can loose themselves in for hours at a time? No. But it's a good distraction for the rest of us.

The breaking down of misconceptions of identity was fantastic. I enjoyed how Azar adapted to Anteros' needs instead of following his instinctive behavior and crush Anteros' will.

    Absolutely love this short.
    Decent characterization for the length.
Demons do fall in love. Pretty cool look at romance from a different angle.

I mean, it is a short book by Megan Derr so one expects to read something that is, well... short, but has a plot, a reason for things to happen. But I have to admit this one just didn't do anything for me, which is quite unusual, since most of the times I love Megan Derr's writing style with a passion. Here though... there was a kind of BAM - instant attraction, not based on anything other than appearances, their first intercourse happened after they exchanged to significant number of... well, maybe five sentences? with each other, and even after that went to hell - jezz I wonder why, it couldn't possibly have something to do with the fact that they never talked? - they were more interested in talking about previous lovers and misconceptions than anything meaningful. I had read the Toymaker's Hoard first and I really liked it - it pains me to say that this one wasn't nearly as good though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet

As you'd expect from the price, this is a short (40page) story so moves very quickly. Having said that, whilst too short to create real depth, the ideas are both different and interesting.

Its a fun entertaining read possibly best viewed as an introduction to the series
