The Making: A Socket Greeny Short Story Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 33 ratings

The Soldier wakes on the battlefield.

He's a pawn in a larger conflict with no memory of where he was before coming online. His exoskeletal armor forces him into combat. Only when he engages free will does he break out of automode.

And things get weird.

Hunted by the cleaners, he transports to other worlds. It's not till he's captured does he understand what he really is.

And how to truly escape.

This is an introduction to the The Socket Greeny Saga, a heady trip into an alternate universe where a strange and introverted teenager discovers life is more than virtualmode gaming. The world isn't safe.

And all of reality is in danger.

As one reviewer put it "I have no idea what I read" I sort of do but to be honest it wasn't my kind of story. I'm not into gaming and it seemed more like a weird A.I. world. His writing is good and if you understand gaming it will make more sense and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I am giving it four start because the writers discriptions and world building is quite interesting and well done

That was. Weird. But in a really cool way. Gives you pause as you blast your way through a video game. I really enjoyed it!

A very short story well worth reading as an introduction to a great series.

I don't play video games but do enjoy a good bit of sci-fi. This story will have you looking at your games in a new way as long as you take the time to read it! I mean, what really goes on with those character when you are not playing? Nothing you say? You might want to think again...

What a very imaginative short story! Tony packed so much into such a few amount of pages. I highly recommend you give this book a read! You will not be disappointed but will be craving for more.

And, as with most of Bertauski's alternate realities, all too possible. AI stops being artificial, and wants to live on its own. Have fun, folks.

Who am I? Where am I? What am I?
How would you feel if you "woke up" in the middle of a battle, in a place you didn't recognize, with no idea who you were?! Mr. Bertauski's short story throws the reader into this situation, following the Soldier. So as not to give away any of the story, I just want to say, "Tony, you are warped!!" And I mean that in a fantastic way!!

I was given an ARC by the author...and I would read the phone book if he wrote it! What an author!!

Odd take on the characters in a video game... I think. To be honest I have no idea what I read. I may have to read it a second time to figure it out.

Update: After a reread I do find I like it more. Not surprising since the author has no bad stories.

An alternate universe was never so much fun!
Though short this read introduces us to all that is to come and it will totally hook you on the complete series.
