- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2014Do you know who Mason Kade is? What made him be the protective, strong, confident, sexy a**hole that we all LOVE? Well if you ever wondered what made him into the man he is, now you know! And I can't help but love him even more! AHHH! I loved learning about his life growing up and how hard things truly were for him and Logan! There is no series that compares to Fallen Crest, and I am so glad to have more insight into "my" Mason!
"I got sh*t done. That was my job. That, and football, were the two things I excelled at."
This is the prequel to the Fallen Crest Series, so we start out when Mason has just started high school. He is already popular because he is a Kade, but also because he is the star football player. But life at home is hard, and only getting worse. His father (I hate him so much more after this book) is a d**chebag and broke their family (although his mother for me wasn't much better…)!
"Lies. The whole house was full of lies, except Logan. He was the only one who had never lied to me."
Now it was him and Logan against the world. He would protect his brother no matter what. I loved his protective side of a young Logan (the no having s*x part… is HILARIOUS!). We get to see how they became so close and share such a strong bond that we all love in the other Fallen Crest books. But we also learn that Mason is only an a** when he has to be. It is not who he wants to be, but he will do whatever it takes to protect those he loves. (God I love him!)
"Feeling the old restlessness and anger in me, it was all boiling together. I needed to get laid or I'd end up getting in a fight."
We get details on tons of drama (Tate & Logan, Kate & Mason, Nate moving, Marissa, and more) that we all wanted more of from the series. I especially loved how Tijan brought it full circle, and we really got to witness the instant connection Mason had to Sam before they ever even spoke to one another! I couldn't love it anymore, and now I MUST re-read the entire series and PATIENTLY (ha yeah right) wait for Fallen Fourth Down!
"I fought against smiling at her. She was hot. I knew Logan was going to think so too, but d*mn, I didn't know if I could pass this one up."
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024I love seeing things from Masons point of view. Seeing inside his head and how his mind works is so interesting. His reaction to his parents, Annalise, and everyone around him is so spot on and really makes him a dynamic character. I love how much he loves his brother and how he will tear down anyone who comes between them. Also getting his reaction to seeing Sam for the first time gives me goosebumps. I love them so much!

5/5 stars
Mason and Logan Kade have grown up in an opulent home, full of luxury and have never wanted for anything material in their lives. But money doesn’t buy love, happiness, good parents or a normal family, or at least a family that will pretend.
Their father, James Kade, is a serial cheater and philanderer. Their mother knows, has caught him in the act, she has witnessed him with many different women over the years. Most every night is spent crying herself to sleep.
Mason and Logan have also witnessed and caught their father with different women over the years, though he seems to think that he has pulled it over their heads. Mason and Logan have also heard their mother crying far too often and the fights that their parents get into have the boys wishing that their parents would just get a divorce. Finally, a divorce does happen.
Neither parent has really been there for the boys or really helped raise them. But Mason has always taken it upon himself to look out for, protect beyond all reason and help raise his younger brother Logan. Mason considers himself a lost cause and that all attention should be spent on Logan, because there is still hope for him.
I like how Mason outed his dad, continually. Mason is an angry teenager, but he has every right to be. He has no respect for his dad as a parent or as a man. He has a little more respect for his mother, but it’s obvious that it’s not much.
This prequel novella ends right where book one, Fallen Crest High, starts.
I’m so glad I read the prequel first. It gave us the background and a more solid platform for the series. I think that some may not have thought that Mason should have been as angry as he was, in the first book. But starting with the prequel, you can see Mason’s reasons. It is also entirely from his POV, which we missed in the first 2 books.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2021This book shows what divorce can do to a family. It shows how an older child feels that they have to take care of a younger child. The bottom line is Mason feels responsible for his brother Logan and he will do anything to protect him.
Mason lives football, that's his other passion. He wants football to be his life and he's very, very good at it. He knows that as long as he's doing well at football his life will fall in line and he will have a great income and he will be able to help his brother if he needs it.
The third thing you learn about Mason is that he's a bit of an ass*hole to women even though he sleeps his way through high school. Mason is chased by most women who see his incredible good looks and his tenacious pull towards football so he will be a great provider.
This book is about Mason's teen years and how he makes it through. Both he and Logan have been damaged by their parents divorce but they make it through high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prequel to one of my favorite series
“Mason” is the prequel of “Fallen Crest High” and starts two years before the first book. Readers who read Tijan's “Fallen Crest” series know the course of the story but experience Mason's side of the story firsthand. He describes the end of his parents' marriage, their divorce and the starting relationship between his father and Sam's mother. His story specifies his dysfunctional connection with Kate, his friendship with Marissa and Tate's betrayal. Even for hardcore fans of Tijan's stories - I know some who reread the series over and over again - the book is a great pastime. We get an amazing insight in Mason's personality, loyalties, thoughts and feelings.
I'm not sure if new readers should start with the prequel or with “Fallen Crest High”. I thought about it and I can't decide. I'm glad I read the series before the prequel and didn’t know everything about Mason's and Logan's past but I read the prequel and wanted immediately reread the series. I think it doesn’t matter if new readers start with the prequel or read the series in the order of publication. I just hope Tijan will decide to rewrite “Fallen Crest High” in Mason's narrative. I really enjoyed the other perspective of the story.
Tijan is one of my favorite authors and I love her work. Of course it isn’t something new but it made my day and sweetened the waiting time for “Fallen Fourth Down”. I want to know how the story will continue!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Loved it
Mason comes from a broken home. He watched it fall apart. He is so angry. He speaks his mind even if it hurts. He is hot strong and broken. This prequel was a great lead into the series! Loved it

5.0 out of 5 stars A-ma-zing!!!
I've read all of Tijan's novel but the fallen crest series has always stolen my heart since the very first page. Mason is the freaking alpha male that captivates you and makes you want to melt to the floor in a puddle. He's hot (duh), intense and very protective. Having a book dedicated to him was just so moving and wow. Just WOW. I can't fault anything. Tijan is an excellent writer, transforming words on a page into a beautiful, powerful masterpiece! So glad I had a chance to read this book and I'm sure I'll be rereading it in the future - just like I've revisited Sam and Mason's so many times before.....
Now I just have to remember to breathe until I get more Mason in Fallen Fourth Down; wish me luck, I'm going to need it ;) ~ Emilymae Darby

5.0 out of 5 stars Tijaned again
2 words: Loved it!!
I loved getting a further insight into Mason and Logan and how they became who they are.
Loved seeing further into their relationship with each other, and reading more about their childhood.
This book made me love Mason, Logan and Nate even more; but made me hate Kate, James, Annalise, Tate and even Helen even more.
SPOILERS ahead!
I loved getting to finally read more about the Logan/Tate/Mason scene, and am twice as glad Tate is finally out of the picture for Logan.
Was really interesting seeing just how much of a douche James was and how horrible of a parent he is, but I also don't think Logan and Mason would be as a close if this wasn't the case.
I know boys don't always think things through, but this book made me question even more why Mason kept things going with Kate for so long, especially when she bullied Marissa. He had girls like Jenny who seemed fine to leave things casual, so not sure whey he kept going back to Kate when he know how crazy she was and he kept giving her more power by doing so.
I also enjoyed reading more about their relationship with their mother, and confirming the fact that they've never really respected a female in their lives before.
Would love more novella's in Mason's point of view from after he met Sam, and maybe one from Logan's point of view - as long as it confirms he isn't *in* love with Sam, and only loves her like family.
Cannot wait for Fallen Fourth Down!!!
