The Mentor of Lonemarsh House Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 75 ratings

"I love you enough to let you run, but too much to see you fall."

Burnt out from his life as a musician and record producer, 35-year-old Matt Barrow takes on Lonemarsh House, an isolated manor in the Kent marshes. When he meets 23-year-old Jason Hodge, a brilliant violinist, Matt knows this is the young man he wants to share his new life with. But Jason is closeted and at the mercy of his treacherous friends.

Jason is trapped by fear and Matt may be his escape, but should he jeopardise his safety for the love of an older man?

The Mentor of Lonemarsh House is the third in Jackson Marsh's 'Mentor' collection of older/younger gay romance novels.

Having read all four novels in author Jackson Marsh's "mentor" series this, the third book on the surface seems to be the most straight forward m/m romance but believe me it's not, the story has so much depth to it I am still thinking about it. Matt Barrow, 35 leaves London and his fast paced and stressful career as a music producer to pursue a much quieter life buying an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. His first night there he goes to the local pub and sees twenty three year old Jason Hodge flawlessly playing the violin. THE MENTOR OF LONEMARSH HOUSE is the love story of two men and their shared love of music and so much more. Mr. Marsh has written an amazing story set in the wilds of Southwestern England that is just about as romantic as it gets.

This is a new-to-me author, and I enjoyed the book. More angst and less sex than I usually like in my books, but enjoyable.

The story is well scripted and moderately paced, with a focus on the people and the romance. Good character development for the MCs and some of the supporting cast. Enough tension to bring interest to the story with some very credible situations and an ending which resolves most issues yet leaves a couple of questions for the reader.

Jackson Marsh has a way of transporting his readers to the locations and timeliness like no other author. You feel like you know his characters, and with his main mm characters, fall in love with them. It's always bittersweet when a story ends. Thankfully, he has many more stories to share. He's truly a gifted and talented writer.

Jackson Marsh is a great storyteller. In this case, he builds rich characters and puts them in a setting where it is their entire world. It's an English Countryside story where this series of the "The Mentor" has an older main character and a younger main character who are the clear romantic leads.

But there's more: this berg is populated with MM pairings, and a very sympathetic group, and a less accepting group. And as there is the other Mentor entries, there's a true criminal who has somehow forced good people into his service.

The role of music in this book is fantastic. It expresses the feelings of characters as well as adds suspense to the stories. It brought together the main characters, and it sustains the storytelling.

This book is rich with descriptions, with feelings, and with character. The descriptions include a wonderful closing build with analogies and set dressings.. I particularly like the use of the Grandfather Clock, the dream sequence and the raft occupants there in. But less a character, is the scenery and mysteries of the marsh. In the first book in this series, set in the mountains, you would think Jackson Marsh is writing a geography and terrain book. Less so in this one, but he's given us a mysterious marsh, with a questionable history and rich stories abound.

This is a quick read, but is it ever an adventure to get to the wonderful ending.

    Wow, Wow, Wow.....
This story has that slow long burn feeling to it that gets into you and doesn’t let you go.

The writing is so precise about the meeting of Matt & Jason. Matt is an out 35yr old burned out music industry guru & Jason is a closeted 23yr old barman /musician. There meeting was destined as written behind their love of music. The story holds you captive as it weaves you through their lives and what life is like for a closeted gay man in a small village.

Well written having you delve into the private lives & thoughts in a love of May/December relationships. I love this book, wanting to read more... his books make you long for a sequel at the very least to know how the characters are progressing with in their lives still wishing for a beautiful HEA for them.

As I’ve told Mr Marsh, though he needs a little bit more sex in his books lol but that’s just on me.

This is an amazing piece of writing which has everything in it. Firstly we have the instant connection between Matt Barrow the 35 year old musician and record producer and 23 year old Jason Hodge, son of the landlord of his local pub and a very talented violinist. Secondly we find out why Jason is still living at home when he has so much talent, and thirdly what exactly is 'friend' Steve up to?
This Mentor series is exceptional. Each story is completely different, the underlying factor in common is that each story is based in the Kent marshes.

Good story. Well written. I found it a quiet and gentle romance. The May-December relationship was handled beautifully.

What a plot! What a depth of compassion! What an enjoyable tale for a summer's evening!
To say I have enjoyed Marsh's stories over the years is an understatement. Whenever I see a new one, I do not hesitate in purchasing it, and I am never left disappointed. This latest tale just increases my admiration of Marsh's gift as a writer; as a developer of interesting plots; as one who understands the best qualities of relationships, while also addressing the challenges. I know I am enjoying a story when I refuse to take a break. This one kept me captivated, and that is just about the highest praise I can offer any author!

I was filled by various emotions as I read this story. I shed a few tears by the end of it. One of the few romance stories I actually felt were romantic, it was also often a surprise and excess of expectation.
