While I can shape shift into whatever man you want, that's not what makes me unique.
My mismatched eyes, beautiful red hair, love for women's fashion and my big endowment are simply some of my shining qualities.
I'm also fabulous, love sex, and I look fantastic in a corset.
Did I get your attention? Good.
Then let me tell you my story.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2022This is a spin-off novella from the Stallion Ridge series, read the first 4 of that series before hitting this tale! Scarlet has always been a charismatic, confident and delightful Mimic, but he has dreams. He has dreamed since a little one to be in the stage as so many mimics do but to do so, he must leave the town and found family that he loves. Will his quest to fulfill his dreams ruin his future? I’m not going to tell you! This is a fun small read but it’s heartbreakingly vulnerable tale as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019Scarlet is a mimic. He can shift into almost anyone but he has trouble with women. Just can’t seem to get their lady parts right. Longing to be on stage, Scarlet decides he needs to leave Stallion Ridge for the big city.
He’s not quite sure how to go about being a star but doesn’t doubt that he will be. The big city is not nice to him. The really only good thing that happens is meeting Danny the satyr. Scarlet manages to get himself in trouble and decides maybe Stallion Ridge wasn’t so bad after all.
While all of the Stallion Ridge characters are interesting, Scarlet has always been one of the most mysterious. This was a short book but it gave me everything I needed to know about Scarlet. While it was a complete story, I do think all the books should be read in order. This is such an unusual world full of interesting and likable characters that it’s easy to get lost in the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2020Since reading the first of the Stallion Ridge series the character of Scarlet was worming his way into my heart. Scarlet has a heart of gold, is rich in friends and loves to perform. What he is missing is a big stage and love, since all of his friends around him find it with the most unusual partners. So he packs his bag and off he goes out into the big wide world to seek the fame his mother told him about. Arriving in New Haven he learns fast that not everything is golden that shines. I loved reading Scarlet's story, seeing all my favourite characters and meet a few more. I cheered, I cried and I was happy for Scarlet. Looking forward to read more about Stallion Ridge.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2019Scarlets story, and it’s the sweetest romantic adventure. Scartlet finds his true love and learns there’s no place like home.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2019This book centers on Scarlet. We learn more about his past and the promise made to his mother. Mimics and their abilities are discussed in more detail. To find his future, Scarlet decides to leave Stallion Ridge. (I felt Scarlet's pain.) How could he keave his boys.
Managing to get into lots of mischief whilst he was there. Not finding the place or dream he thought he would. The other Mimics were cruel and glad they got a taste of Scarlet.
I loved Danny, a satyr, and their chemistry.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2024This is definitely one of my favorites of this fantastic series. I read it in one sitting, enthralled the entire time. You can't read this one without reading the previous books, really - and the previous books are 100% worth reading. So if you enjoyed those, you'll enjoy this all the more. Scarlet is a gem.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019For anyone who’s been following Maz’ stories set in Stallion Ridge, this novella has been long awaited. Scarlet appeared on the scene in book 1, the saloon gal whom everyone loves but no one really knows. This novella presents a bit of his back story, but it’s more about his future, and how sometimes we (like Dorothy) have to leave home and family to discover they were waiting for us all along.
This is probably the most accurately titled book in the series, too, and it absolutely tickled my fancy to see how much trouble Scarlet could get himself into without even trying. There are a few maudlin bits, some sexy times, and a definite nadir, but then the last bit is almost nonstop action that left me on the edge of my seat. Maz packs a lot into a little book. It’s a fun, fast read that answers some questions and lets us get to know one of the more colorful inhabitants of Stallion Ridge. This story is told in the first person, because Scarlet has to be the narrator of his story, and that may be a factor in some people’s enjoyment. I found it true to his character and rather charming. I received an advance copy of Mimics and Mayhem in return for my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2021Well what can I say, Scarlet needed his story told and I enjoyed it very much! He is such a sassy person and I'm glad he got his happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty and his beast
Of all the Stallion Ridge stories, this one is my favourite. Gorgeous Mimic Scarlett, determined to be a star of the stage, finds that the glamour isn't all it's made out to be. Finding a sexy Satyr to sing and 'play' with proves much more fun.
Add in an overweight self important bully who's determined to have Scarlett and there's more than enough action to satisfy Scarlett.
