Mismatched: Matchmakers Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 503 ratings

Hot-shot lawyer Hank Donovan and motorcycle maintenance man Lucas Dean were hopelessly mismatched until a lakeside kiss, a death in the family, and a little girl named Jasmine turned their world upside down.

Lucas Dean, owner of Cycle Shift, a motorcycle maintenance and second-hand shop, wants a match who’s as much of a free-spirit as he is, and someday he wants to be a father. His business partner, Jerry, thinks Match Made is the perfect way to find the dream partner.

Hank Donovan, one of the hottest names on the local legal scene, is lonely, although he’s the last to admit it. He buries his fears that he’ll never find a man in courtroom success and a stunning view of Lake Michigan from his living room window. Kids are out of the question, but there must be a single man out there who can bring Hank his happily ever after.

When Daniel and Blake match up Hank and Luke, it’s a guaranteed success. Or it was supposed to be, if it weren’t for the computer error that put the mismatched pair together for a disastrous first date.

A last-ditch second-chance outing puts the wheels of fate into motion, and they just might cure Hank’s loneliness, make Luke a dad, and give a precocious little girl named Jasmine a permanent home.

Mismatched is a 53,000-word gay romance. It’s the first book in the Matchmakers series. The book includes steamy scenes and a guaranteed happily-ever-after ending.

Great start to series.
What a great start to a new series this book is. Luke and Hank are matched together on a Match making sight and things don’t go according to plan to start with then Luke suffers a tragedy and things get worse. I love the ups and downs the author throws into this story and I am so looking forward to more to come. I highly recommend Declan’s Books.

Blake and Daniel have started a gay dating search engine and their latest program is called Andre who has coupled two unlikely guys: Hank, lawyer about mid-30’s and meat-eater with Luke, motorcycle shop owner, about 7 years younger and vegetarian. Oops! Could Andre have made a mistake?
Hank is a high-powered gay lawyer with no social life. His assistant convinces him to sign up for Match Made to get some R & R. The match with Luke is so unlikely it doesn’t work on their first date…AT ALL. When Daniel hears, he plans a second date for these two guys but lets Luke decide what it should be. This is the beginning of two great guys finding they have more in common than expected with all their differences! There are sad parts, angsty parts and down-right super steamy parts (OMG ch 6, pulling out my fan ;-) All ends with an HEA and a really naughty bedroom scene. In my version Mr. Rhodes offers an extra chapter with a link.
I was offered an ARC to review and decided to buy it instead. If you are into M/M romance and steam, read this book! Can’t wait to see who he pairs up next. I’m hoping Blake and Daniel get a book, hint, hint…

It was a horrible date. Enough to make the men want to permanently delete the App from their phone. Luckily for the two men they had persistent very determined people in their lives who saw how miserable they both were. Which is why they kept needling them to give the App a try. When the first date was such a trainwreck something just short of a miracle had to be performed to get them to try again.

Having someone who loves you and knows you so well that they don't listen when you say "NO" because they truly know you better than you know yourself. They hate seeing you so miserable for so long. Especially since they have to work with you daily. They know your temper, your idiosyncrasies, and your stubbornness. What do you do to make the super sexy man try something again that was already a spectacular flop?

This was a very entertaining book that I read on the 20th of October. If you enjoy stories with children, this one should be right up your alley. But first how was the author going to pull off the impossible: two opposites that weren't attracting? Read it and discover for yourself. And lucky for you there are two more books in the series.

With the prologue, I honestly thought this story was going to be about Daniel and Blake - the creators of the matchmaking site. But, no, the entire chapter was simply wasted words devoted to uninteresting background information. Chapter One, "Hank", begins the uneventful romance between Hank and Luke. I say uneventful because these two characters lack chemistry. Neither character was very interesting and a bit self-absorbed. I haven't read this author's work in a while because so many of his previous stories revolved around a baseball background. Not that I have anything against sports, but SO MANY of his stories had the same backdrop and seemed to follow the same storyline only with different characters. Very interchangeable. But I thought I'd give him another try. Well, even though this isn't a sports-related story, so much of this book made me wonder why this author is writing gay romance. He's horrible at writing gay sex scenes. For instance, after their 4th date, Luke and Hank decide to get busy with each other. There is no foreplay - no kissing, no mutual masturbation, no fellatio - they drop trou and immediately anal penetration occurs - immediately - without any prep whatsoever. Really??? The first time you have an intimate encounter with someone you are interested in developing a relationship with and you proceed directly to the main event without foreplay??? No. Not gonna happen. So much about this story could have been written better. Deeper characters. More interesting plot turns. Deeper emotional connections. This story was blah. Meh.

Delightful love story with all the feels! Finding your real self and touching real emotion can be scary and amazing at the same time. I loved how these guys really shared themselves after their first date. Motorcycles, sail boats, dinners and movies create a beautiful basis for a couple and romance. Great supporting characters. The writing flowed and the story-line was interesting and engaging.

Hank and Luke have an amazing connection and then life happens and now Luke has a lifetime commitment to his darling little niece. How do you navigate life and find your path with so many responsibilities and changes. I loved the connection that Hank found with Jasmine and how he found more of himself to share.

This is the first in The Matchmakers series and it was an awesome introduction to a new series. So much potential, including one of the owners, so i am looking forward to more fun and love to come in the future.

This series has promise based on this first installment in which a motorcycle mechanic/dealer and an uptight corporate lawyer are matched by a gay matchmaking service which had a glitch in its code and actually mismatched them.

    So what.

Luke the mechanic (on the cover?) and Hank the lawyer are both uptight in many ways, not the least of which is Luke is a veggie and Hank a carnivore. Luke loves kids and has an adorable niece but Hank is totally alien around kids. There are other differences that they manage to overcome in the first part of the book that allows their libidos to dictate a somewhat tenuous relationship.

Then a tragedy occurs which leaves Luke with custody on his young niece Jasmine, who, of course, brings them together throughout the rest of the book despite a number of speed bumps which, I must admit, are both unexpected and perfectly suitable to the overall narrative.

I am a big fan of Declan Rhodes' work and this one was an easy one-day read because everyone seemed to be real despite the fact that both Luke and Hank could be very stupid at times and each needed to depend upon a female to sort out how dumb each was acting.

Looking forward to the next one.

I had so many chores planned for today, I was going to wash my floors, vacuum my rugs, and clean the bathroom while getting two loads of laundry done, but first, with a coffee, I thought I'd read a page or two of this story. And that was that! I was hooked from the start, an engrossing, wonderful tale of two gorgeously sexy men who meet through a dating app and keeps you entertained from start to finish. Then there is Jasmine, young but so wise for her age with amusing little remarks and a heart of gold. Just a great read. I can always do my chores another day.

Love how Luke and Hank managed to overcome the mismatch by the dating app Match Made and found love and worked their way to they're happy ever after. Sad that Sandy passed away but delighted Luke was able to take rest for Jasmine and Hank found a way to love her too

2.0 out of 5 stars It was ok, but had a lot of issues

Let me throw it out there by saying I really don't think this author thought a lot of the implications of the storyline through. You have an 8yo girl who loses her single mother in a car accident, she is suddenly living with her Uncle, and yet there are no emotional breakdowns, no counselling sessions for her to work through her grief - she seems completely happy and normal. Even Luke only comes across as a little bit upset, but again there didn't seem to be any real grief there, it seems to be more his worry about being a suitable parent to Jasmine.

The focus of the story seemed to be more making a point that a supposed miss match by the computer software could actually lewd to happiness, that sometimes opposites attract, and also that people can change or at least challenge their beliefs given the right circumstances. That aspect of the story was fine, but really needed to have been better supported by the rest if the plotpoints. It was, for lack of a better word, boring! We start to get some detail, and then it flicks to the next chapter and the supposed events (like their sailing date) all happen off screen.

The chemistry between Luke and Hank wasn't there either - sure they both said they were attracted to aspects of the other person (Hank liked Luke's smile, Luke liked Hank's eyes), but there wasn't much more. Honestly, they should have been friends rather than lovers - that's how bland the connection between them was. What also had me cringing was that for all of their sexual encounters there was no foreplay, no prep and no lube, just suit up and slam it on in. I mean, really?! This is after both of them had a supposed dry spell of years. There was no romance, no tender care, no getting to know their partner.

This is my first book by this author and I hate to say it, but it's probably my last. Not a book I would recommend.

I am normally a fan of Declan Rhodes but I just couldn't get into this book. I didn't feel any connection between the main characters and felt the story was all over the pIace and not very believable. Sorry but for me not one of his best.
