Mistle Text: 'Twas the Text Before Christmas ... (An Accidentally in Love Story Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,621 ratings

Twas the text before Christmas…

Twenty-eight-year-old Holly Snow is the only mother her five-year-old niece remembers. Three years earlier, when her sister and brother-in-law were killed, Holly’s dream of becoming an international flight attendant was put on hold so she could be home for baby Faith.

Holly is doing everything she can to keep the rent paid, including working as an online travel agent, filing medical claims, and cleaning apartments in her building. When her friend Toni tells her that her boss needs someone to buy his Christmas gifts, she leaps at the opportunity.

Tall, dark and Scroogy, investment banker, Archibald Harrington is too busy to do his own Christmas shopping. When his assistant tells him she knows of a professional shopper, he happily checks another dreaded task off his holiday list. The last thing Archie is expecting is for his hired elf to text him insistently to find out more about the people on list.

The last thing Holly expects is to develop feelings for grumpy man who’s stealing her Christmas spirit.

Will there be a Holiday miracle, or will Holly and Archie miss their chance at love? Find out in the fifth installment of the Accidentally in Love Series.

Sneak Peek...

“My boss needs a personal shopper for Christmas, and I’ve already told him I know the very best one in Manhattan.” Toni gives me an open-mouthed smile, clearly expecting me to jump up and down.

“Your boss. As in Archibald Snooty Pants the Forty-Second?” I ask, pursing my lips.

“It's not like he’s a horrible person, he’s just a one trick pony—all work and no play. Plus, it’s not like you’ll have to work side-by-side with him or anything. You probably won’t even have to see him.”

“I’m not a personal shopper,” I tell her. “Unless his family wants ramen noodles or discount t-shirts from the guy who sells them out of his trunk in front of my apartment building, I would have no idea what to buy.”

“Yeah, well, Archie doesn’t know that.” She pumps her eyebrows up and down like a comedian.

“Toni, you told me the guy was a rich stuck-up preppy from the Hamptons. While I would love nothing more than to make some extra money, I don’t have the foggiest notion how to shop for rich people.”

Sweet Clean Holiday Romance

Sweet Clean Holiday Romance
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5 Stars 📚 Part of a series but reads as a standalone 📝 Clean Fake-Dating Romance; Alternating POV; available on KU! If you’re looking for a cute Christmas Romance, look no further! Mistle Text is a clean fake-dating romance, with a Cinderella twist. This story will quickly get you into the holiday spirit with some sweet characters and a touch of drama. The thing I loved the most about this book was the homey family feel that this story was given with 5-year-old Faith. While I grew to love the MCs Holly & Archie, Faith was the star of this story; you just couldn’t help but fall in love with her! There is nothing more joyful than experiencing Christmas alongside a child!

This is a Christmas installment of the "Texting" series, and it is the best one yet! The others are fun, and I love them, and this one just checks all the rom-com boxes! Fun, serious, laugh-out-loud, family-from-hell, but totally worth the read!

There’s a lovely HEA epilogue, but the darkest moment before the climax seems rushed. Maybe because the book ends at the 91% point? I thought more would happen before the crucial turning point. I thought there was another 10% to go, but nope, crisis at 80 something percent, climax, denouement, done.

The female protagonist is rather likable and is a sweetie who sacrifices much for those she loves. The male protagonist is at his best when away from the office and with the heroine and her niece. He’s such a nice guy that when he’s a shallow jerk at times it doesn’t seem believable. The development of the secondary character, the niece, is at times spot on if she were an upper primary grade kid and not a genius preschooler.

Another issue I have with the book is that Holly is supposed to be a professional shopper buying tons of gifts, but the reader doesn’t get to see how her gift buying succeeded or how, when, and where the presents were moved from her tiny apartment.

There is much to like about this story: some great wisdom, a PG romance, lots of tender family-ish moments, and a fun groveling scene. Just wish the dark turn happened after Holly had more of a chance to shine in front of Archie’s family. Also, the boss needed a moment to reveal his change of heart.

There are numerous comma errors and a sprinkling of typos, but the errors do not impede understanding of the story.

This is a good, quick read for a holiday romance.

I'm enjoying the TEXT series. Archie and Holly are really cute together and Faith is a kick in the pants. It's a rags to riches story set in NYC. Holly seems to be doing OK if she's paying rent, for her mother assisted living care and sending her niece to a private school. She's only 28 and has a lot of responsibilities. Archie seems like a good guy even if he keeps telling himself he's not. It's great when all works out.

First of all, I have to say Melanie Summers picture cracks me up. Thanks for that alone!
These two authors are wonderful on their own, but together they're brilliant. I've read the 4 Accidently in Love books prior to this one, finishing each with the thought "oh, this was my favorite!". Mistle Text really is my favorite (although I still have one more to go).
It amazes me how authors can have so many books in their head, waiting to be written and enjoyed. They truly have a gift they share with their readers.
I love the humor, the warmth of the main characters (even when at times it feels they have no redeeming qualities) and how each character is brought to life through the magic of these authors.
I've been reading these books while getting chemotherapy and am amazed how quick the time goes by. Some days it's like "no, no, I can't be done yet, I have to finish this chapter!!!".
Thank you, Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers, for sharing your wonderful talent.

I really enjoyed this story. I fell in love with Faith, then Holly and yes, I even fell in love with Archie. It’s such a well written and fun story that I had a hard time putting it down (until the end, when I didn’t want it to end).

This story includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. I loved the way Archie and Holly’s growing feelings for each other were portrayed while they each tried to deny the feelings. Holly is raising her orphaned niece while working at least three jobs trying to support them but she’s only just barely getting by and has some big bills coming due. Archie is a rich workaholic CFO whose assistant is Holly’s best friend. There is a command performance at his uncle’s house for Christmas where he will announce his successor. Holly is first hired to buy Archie’s Christmas gifts and then as the story progresses, to play his fake girlfriend for the Christmas holiday with his family. Thus begins the inevitable journey to their HEA. This was a swoony, fun, sweet, heart warming story with very little angst. I especially liked the development and precociousness of Faith’s character. She was not a child prop in the story but an integral part of the storyline.

Although there were some great moments in this book, as a whole, it missed the mark for me.

    Stars: 3/5
    Spice: 0/5 (Sweet)

This book had great potential to be a favorite for me. Faith, Holly’s niece, was a standout character. She outshone the others in every one of her scenes. When Holly and Archie finally met in person, they were funny, flirty and charming. When Archie met Faith, he was so good with her right off the bat. I loved seeing their interactions every time. This book was a slow burn, so the tension was building throughout the book. But when the big moment finally came, it just fell flat for me. The payoff didn’t match up to the buildup. It was also really hard for me to be on board for them to be together after one scene in particular that Archie was a real jerk. By the end, even though I wanted the HEA, I wasn’t necessarily rooting for them.

This is one ofthe most beautifully written romance stories ever. A rich man finds a poor woman with a small child im her care. He needs her to pretend to be his girlfriend to advance the career he's worked so hard for but in the process he falls so deeply in love with her and her little niece. This is a real feel good story that should happen more often in real life.
