Trained: Gladiator BDSM Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 103 ratings

In the competition to find a husband for Princess Atalanta, Thoros has a certain advantage. He happens to know that he and Atalanta appreciate the same things in a man: an attitude so rebellious it demands to be punished, a spirit so dauntless it can only be tamed by a single master.

Yes, Dalin has the hard body and quick mind of a warrior, but Thoros must teach him to meet the hidden challenges in Atalanta’s contests, the ones only he knows are there. Dalin will do anything to escape the caste he was born into—even marry a woman. If Thoros can help him win Atalanta’s hand, he’ll endure the pain and humiliation of Thoros’s peculiar brand of training, and he’ll pay the price Thoros demands in return from his body and his soul. What Dalin won’t do is admit how much he likes it. He might submit, but he’ll never surrender.

As one competitor after another is eliminated, Dalin’s chances look good. But winning means leaving Thoros’s cottage for Atalanta’s castle, an exchange he’s no longer sure he wants to make. Meanwhile, Thoros is realizing that he’s forged his perfect partner only to give him away. Can two stubborn warriors fight their way to a prize more valuable than a kingdom?

T.M. Chris amazed me with this book. Her erotica has a very high heat and add in BDSM? Sold on that alone. However, what makes her so unique is her ability to add such depth. There is so much complexity and layers to her story and it makes me want even more from her.

The character development was amazing. There was phenomenal chemistry and watching the two main characters throughout the novella develop was a treat. It definitely went far above traditional erotica. World building was solid and showcased some really interesting aspects.

Most of all the story though was fully developed. I prefer when erotica has a plot to it and this did. It very much tugged on my emotions. It held me captive from the beginning. I can't wait to see more from T.M. Chris.

5 stars for an emotional, plot driven and scorching read!

Fast paced, interesting characters, hot sex and a simple but nicely turned plot. My favorite thing about this story was the pride and competition between the men. I especially enjoyed reading about a submissive man who wasn't young or soft. The complexity of their emotions for each other made the book for me.

I am completely breathless after this intense and consuming read.
The story is an epic tale of how an untameable man can submit to the right master.
    I was enthralled

This author comes up with the most original story ideas. I have read a couple of her stories before and find I never know what to expect from her. She sure knows how to keep this reader’s attention. This story is set in ancient Rome. Dalin wants a better life. Atalanta is being forced to marry by her father. She decides to hold a contest that will decide who will win her hand. Thoros, a gladiator plans on training the winner so he will win the purse attached to winning. The connection between Thoros and Dalin become more than teacher student. The training was quite unusual and intense. The final contests are very imaginative. I have to say all the stories I’ve read by this author are intense. She writes stories that keep my page turning and impossible to set aside. I have her on my watch list and would hate to miss one of her books. Its hard to wait and see what she comes up with next

When Dalin entered the contest to win the hand of a princess he never thought that he would find a man more to his liking. Thoros was the trainer who chose him but soon emotions begin to get in the way. Thoros knows exactly how to train Dalin and win but at what costs? Are the two men more compatible than the prize being fought for?

I enjoyed Thoros and Dalin’s adventure. There is a strong connection between the two right from the start. As they work towards the ultimate goal emotions grow stronger and each man must work through it all and in the end make a hard choice. It was nice to see the way their relationship takes shape and the turmoil each man goes through. Their training sessions were not only hot but intriguing. Thoros knows just what to do to win but is it truly what the men want? Their story is a fast paced read with strong emotions that kept me engaged from start to finish.

The premise of this story was interesting: a slave escapes to join a competition to win the princess' hand in marriage, but he needs training and has to attract a sufficiently clever and skilled trainer. There are some definite rapey bits--lots of them. "Dubious consent" is the phrase of the day here and it's tangled up in a lot of politics and emotional tug-of-wars and stubbornness, but it doesn't change the fact that the trainer basically rapes this guy for a few weeks under the guise of training him "for his own good." The gladiatorial challenges seemed rushed until the last one which I thought was handled pretty well. The romance also felt one-sided; I never got any feeling that the trainer was emotionally invested in the relationship past his next orgasm.

[Spoilers] The ending made me sad. It was supposed to be romantic, but it just felt sad to me. After all he'd been through to gain some semblance of freedom, he went right back to his abuser. He could have agreed to the marriage and still carried on with the trainer if he'd chosen, but now he'll never have any real autonomy and I feel like the trainer is likely to dump him out in the cold as soon as he gets bored of him. For reasons of his birth and the world he was in, he was never going to be truly free, but with the princess he'd have had a lot more options and abilities than the path he chose. I felt like he went back because that messed up relationship was the closets to anything resembling affection he'd ever had, and the whole ending made me sad.

The description of this story in the blurb does a good job, so I won't recount the plot. Instead I will tell you this is a hot, dirty, sexy story of a man learning to submit so he can win a princess' hand and escape his low birth, and the man (trainer) whose goal it is to break him. Yeah, there is a lot of humiliation and sexual domination. Some might call it dub-con, but ultimately Dalin chose to endure whatever Thoros demanded in order to win the contest. The final contest is really hot, and I thought the ending was right. Both Dalin and Thoros got what they really wanted in the end.

I received a complimentary ARC from the author. This is my honest, voluntary review.

I have been impressed by all of T.M. Chris' works, but this one takes the cake. I don't know if it was the shockingly intricate setting, the phenomenal characterization, or maybe just the impeccable storytelling, but this is my new favorite T.M. Chris story--and maybe just story in general. It's a short enough read that it could be finished in the same length of time as a feature film, and it's definitely more exciting than most feature films I've seen!

    Highly recommended.

Well, what an imagination, what a story! And it is a story, despite most of it being set in a tiny stone cottage, where Thoros used some very individual methods to train Dalin to win the competition and the hand of the princess. Poor Dalin is really made to suffer, in many ingenious ways so as to be the best for each stage. But he's tough and determined, and won't submit, and so the battle begins, both in and out of the arena.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy this one very much because “historical” books aren’t my jam but of course I did because it’s a Tanya/T. M. Chris book and she knows how to write these kinds of books well.

    Highly recommend.
