Taming the Monkey Mind: What Stops You Creating (And How To Stop That) Kindle Edition
What is the Monkey Mind?
The Monkey Mind is that voice inside you that seeks to undermine you at every turn in order to protect the status quo.
The Monkey Mind is scared and devious. The Monkey Mind’s values are all bent out of shape. He tells you that success is outwardly validated. He tells you that you will only be successful when you see your name up in lights, when you have the flash car, the fancy house. The Monkey Mind is the opposite of your Higher Mind.
The Monkey brow-beats us into submission. He nags us into defeat. He wages war with each of us. Yet most are not even aware that there is a war on, because the Monkey tricks us into thinking that his fearful voice, his paranoia, is our own. He fools us into believing that these thoughts are what we are, that we are the negativity that he poisons our mind with.
The Monkey Mind is a mental force inside of you that tries to prevent you from succeeding in order to protect itself from what it fears the most: change. And he is going to fight your every effort to rise up and shine tooth and nail from now until the day you die.
The Monkey Mind is what stops you starting.
The Monkey Mind is what stops you finishing.
The Monkey Mind is what stops you – period.
“Taming The Monkey Mind” is how to stop that.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2020I believe this book will give me the tools to end a 6 year year fight with alcohol and I have read all the books by the leading alcohol recovery people. I have gone to all the support groups that want me to admit I am an alcoholic before I speak or they wanted me to be born again and that would cure my problem. I do drink too much but I am not an alcoholic. I am a Rebel Zen Master with a drunk pet monkey.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2016It's brash, funny, off the cuff, askew... and surprisingly insightful and helpful. The author uses the minutiae of life to illustrate the incredibly ridiculous and counterproductive ways we sabotage ourselves.I definitely saw myself in his mirror. That helped me see myself in my mirror and laugh at my shortcomings. That always helps creative flow.I talked to the damn monkey that day at great length and got up the next day with a smile and ready to beat his sorry ass.It works when you get really pissed at the monkey. Some good paintings resulted---even tried very different approaches and subjects than usual.. I put that monkey face on my fridge. I thank Seamus for taking some manic time to write this and refresh those of us who have been in the ring with the monkey so many times for so many years and been beaten so many times. We're back!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
I thought this was an amazing read. Being someone who has admittedly been frozen in a pool that lacks creativity, it has opened my eyes and placed perspective on my mind. Now to do what I love....
