Ali Sweet and her chronicles are just that—sweet! I was charmed by this story about an independent woman striving for professional success, as a murder in her bakery proves to be a stumbling block she must solve to overcome. Ali functions as a relatable character as she struggles to prioritize her livelihood and her love life, also facing disapproval from several family members and the challenge of creating a home in a new city. The majority of 20 and 30-something-year-olds can most likely empathize with Ali’s plight, and her desire to succeed despite obstacles in her path. This is a good, light-hearted read. The ending isn’t obvious, and the readers can enjoy learning more about the characters as Ali investigates. Everyone is a suspect! While this book is pleasant and fun, it is not a deep, suspenseful, or particularly thought-provoking mystery. A Murderous Macaron is a perfect book to take to the beach for a feel-good reading day! Take note: it is also the second book in a series. Although it can be read as a standalone, readers who pick up book 2 first have some catching up to do! In the next installments, perhaps Fiona Grace will “grace” us with more gal-pal moments, along with further information about Ali’s baking business (what will she make next!?) and boyfriend(s).

    Another fabulous cozy mystery from Fiona Grace. In this sequel, Ali Sweet’s bakery is doing well and she is about to launch her new product: Macarons. However, while eating the new macarons in her bakery, a high profile blogger publicly criticizes them and within minutes falls down dead. With the help of Delaney and Tommy, as well as some new friends - Seth and Ali’s new ditzy employee - Ali tries to get the heat off herself and find out who the true murderer is. I really like how Fiona Grace creates such full and unique characters, who you are excited to get to know. A lovely and relaxing mystery…I’ll definitely be continuing on with this series and some of the other series that Fiona Grace has to offer!
