Further investigation reveals a web of sinister intrigue connecting the pharmaceutical company to a treatment and research camp in West Africa, U.S. government officials, the CDC and the World Health Organization. Racing against time to find a cure, Hunter and several scientists go underground in order to hide from powerful forces trying to silence them forever.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseA good collection of novellas that make for an exciting & interesting read & food for thought. In many ways the omnibus collection enhances & draws readers of the global possibilities of plagues into the likelyhood of such purposefully created illnesses. I'll certainly read more of her work!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseTwo things make this series unique.
The first is, Marilyn writes exclusively in the first person. The kicker is that she changes characters throughout the novel, and yet she is able to convey different feelings that the different characters are experiencing.
The second is this series gives a new story to the zombie genre. She gives the story of how the zombie virus started, and its a government program that involves two international entities (I can't give a spoiler, so you'll just have to read).

The reason that I love the story is it's very well written. The characters are very well developed as many get a chance to advance the story through their points of view - even down to dialect! i feel the author did an excellent job portraying the urgency of the situation. Marilyn Peake writes wonderfully in this genre! I hope to see more like this fromsuch a gifted author!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis way a good zombie book with only a few weak parts. It start with a outbreak of Ebola and spins out to a world-wide conspiracy, which wasn't that far off in being possible. The weak areas was too much back story of the characters. Some of it seemed to be padding and did add to or advance the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt takes a person with a huge imagination, to write a book like this an then keep it up for that many books. I often wished I had that power, but I do not so I will rely on people like Marilyn to spark my imagination for me.
Thanks
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this book set very much. Unlike The Walking Dead (best zombie story ever), Mutation Z gives readers insight in to the science of the zombie virus. Blood and guts abound, but in logical sequence. I always enjoy books that are told from the point of view of several characters. The views of all the characters were woven together nicely. This is the first work that I’ve read by Ms. Peake. So that makes me a new fan!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReading this series was like my job. I had to read them everyday. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. the way it is written, you know a lot at once, then before you can say what. the story keeps you hooked and wanting more. I will definitely read more of Marilyn Peake's books

5.0 out of 5 stars A good zombie series
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have read ALOT of zombie books and these were different from the start. I loved the flow and how the author didn’t get bogged down in unnecessary science. The story line picks up pace quite quickly and I really enjoyed the ride!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great twists on my favourite zombie apocalypse.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI've read alot of zombie books probably over 200 now; it was a refreshing change to find someone who added a great twist on such a popular subject. I couldn't put this set down, I read it right through, so now I can sleep lol!
Great characters you feel empathy with and enough scientific detail to feed my biological mind as a nurse and I loved the twists and turns in the storyline too.
I enjoyed the added extra of political terrorists to the already scary zombie storyline, nice addition!
I can't wait to read more from Marilyn.
