In the Name of the Father (Father Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,263 ratings

I was living a lie. I couldn’t be caught in my deception, or my family and friends would abandon me. But my fears became reality and I was cast away as if I were garbage. Then this man, a stranger, took me home and showed me that love can take on many forms, that I’m not filled with sin or doomed to go to hell because I’m gay. He showed me that I’m not broken. I don’t need to be fixed. What I need is to be nurtured and cared for.

This man showed me that it’s okay to be his boy and to call him Daddy…

Seth was a good Christian son raised in a very conservative church.

He learned early on that the world is evil and filled with sinners—but the most horrible thing you can be is gay. When his shame is discovered, he’s shipped off to a special camp that fixes deviants like him. Years have passed since then, yet he still runs from himself every day.

Malcolm was a good Daddy for almost ten years before his boy died.

No longer daring to be too close with another man again, he’s avoided clubs and old friends that remind him of a life filled with a joy he can no longer have. Unable to find a purpose in his lonely existence, he spends night after night in a dive bar at the edge of town. However, witnessing a scared young man being harassed by two bullies jolts him out of his misery.

No one messes with someone vulnerable and helpless on his watch…

Note: In the Name of the Father is a full-length novel with angst and a slow burn romance between an older daddy and younger boy. You can expect lots of hurt/comfort, a daddy with some kinky tricks up his sleeve and a sweet HEA.

Possible triggers: Extreme past abuse involving both physical and emotional trauma.

Morticia Knight has done it again - written a sweet, sexy, mesmerizing and totally satisfying Daddy and boy story for our enjoyment.
Malcolm has been alone for ten years after having been together with the man who helped him discover he was a Daddy who wanted (and needed) to care for his Boy in order to love in his deepest and best way. They would have been married if his boy had not died of cancer and Malcolm believes his chances with love have been and gone.
While drinking one night at his favorite haunt, Malcolm meets Seth and in a reluctant but necessary move, he comes between two men who are trying to grab Seth to take him with them to 'show him how it's done'. Although Malcolm is happy he has rescued Seth, he now doesn't know what to 'do with him' because Malcolm feels like a shell of his former self and incapable of being any good for anyone. And Seth has been told all of his life that he is not any good; that he is evil and an abomination because he is gay.
When Malcolm takes Seth to his home for the night they begin their stuttering journey towards the begining of their HEA (happily ever after) that is certainly well deserved after all that is revealed about the past abuse that Seth has lived through and the sterile life Malcolm has had since his previous boy has passed away. There will be some tissues used, I imagine, as history is recalled, but the love story of Seth and Malcolm has a way of dulling some of that pain for both the characters and the reader.
And if you read the author's note at the end, there is a continuation of their story coming in November to look forward to - yay!!!

Started reading this book for some fun gay smut. What I got was adorably wholesome, gay love story that made my heart go pitter patter. Don’t get me wrong. There is a smut, but it’s mostly just fluff absolutely loved.

I really liked the first 3/4 of this book. The characters were interesting, the type you keep thinking about when you have to stop reading, and look forward to getting back to reading more about. There was not a single typo or grammatical error (other than the young protagonist twice saying e.g. "Me and her did this...", but that was presumably deliberate, sigh...) There were a couple of missed opportunities, e.g. it's the youngster's first trip to the ocean, yet we don't get to actually see what could have been an exhilarating, transformative experience. Instead we get two pages of the men deciding what to order for lunch.
My main observation was the sudden shift 3/4 into the book. Their respective pasts and traumas, the development of their characters and their romance, suddenly get refocused into the daddy/boy thing. I confess, I am personally ignorant of such dynamics, so I read this to learn something--only I'm not sure I did. The youngster has a lot to overcome and work on, escaping from a community of obviously negative consequences. Such stories need to be told and heard. His new situation is clearly more supportive in many ways, but with elements of control and isolation that could still be detrimental to someone so fragile, unsure, and undeveloped. Maybe someone more into the "scene" might relate more to this story. It has potential, but the last part did not work for me.

I really enjoyed this story of a grieving Daddy, and a young man who has been abused by his family and church his whole life. He has escaped and then meets his Daddy and begins his voyage of healing. I thought the very tough circumstances were handled carefully, and I found myself rooting for each man. It’s also a great HFN.

Love the power exchange. Love the pain and suffering. The real life implications of hate and fear. And I love that love and commitment can undo some of the pain.

Ugh hurt and comfort is my happy place

Thank you for putting so much thought and emotion into this story, Ms. M. Knight. I haven't cried, hoped, laughed, and cried some more over a book in a long time! I'm so sorry for all who have/are going through this kind of judgment from others. We are all HIS children, and that is between HIM and each person. No one else should be involved in it.

Malcom's slow surrender to his natural caring instincts makes this book for me, struggling against himself while attempting to make sure Seth have a choice after escaping his family.

I had a love for Daddy/boy relationship, the affection between two and the submission of one is something special.

My only pet peeve about the book, while I loved the story, Nate and Tina was someone I could read a book about because of the sass, how quick Seth started using the word Daddy seemed strange.
Mostly because it was all so new to him, though I put it down to him wanting to please Malcolm and that he wanted to sink in to his new role quickly.

I didn't realise it was the start of a series, and was confused at the pace of the book until it came to the end and it was announced there was going to be a second. I look forward to it, and to read more about the two and hopefully their friends.

Beginning at the end.....I am frustrated when I am leaving a story and BAM on same page as ending is a blurb for author’s next book. Just really bugs me,

But that is my biggest criticism of the story. The rhythm felt natural—the men were not immediately having sex. Also, character’s pasts were beautifully woven in...

    *mini spoiler begin*

When the issue of the enema arose (yep I said it) the author handled it in a respectful way and moved the story along.

    *mini spoiler complete*

The book runs a little long, but not to the point one is skipping pages to be done. I skimmed the end (see above) but it looks like the story of these two might continue.

Klasse, wirklich sehr gut. An manchen Stellen hätte es für mich zwar ausführlicher sein können, aber einfach ein sehr gutes Buch. Dies war mein erstes Buch von dieser Autorin, wird aber sicher nicht mein letztes gewesen sein.

I loved reading In the name of the father, it was a page turner from the beginning. If you want a read that keeps you gripped, this is the book for you.
It's such a strong, tender and beautiful story. The emotion throughout the book keep you on your toes.
The struggles they both face are great, but together anything is possible. Once or twice I was on the edge of my seat thinking nooooo, it can't end like this. It even had me crying at one point. But by the end of the book I was smiling so hard my cheeks hurt.
The passion and chemistry is there from the beginning, but it slowly builds into something truly beautiful. It is true what they say opposite attract and age is just a number.
The book is beautifully written and has a way for gripping you. So much so, I didn't even know I was coming to the end. I could have kept reading about these two for days.
Morticia Knight has become one of my favourite authors and I'm the name of the father is definitely on my reread list.
I would definitely recommend reading this book, you won't be disappointed.

This one has been on my mental list for a while. I can't say I loved it, I don't think there's been any Daddy/Boy story that has reached my 'loved it' level, I'm a bit fussy about the settings, some are good, some not, but I did like it. The first half of this was sweet and rather touching although reading of the horrendous treatment Seth had received from his maniacal, homophobic father was really tough. In the end I'd say I'm glad I finally read it, Malcolm is a very addicting character, if you know what I mean.
