Noah's Song (Port Haven Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 405 ratings

Noah knows what it’s like to be different. Being a 17 year old with blue hair, piercings, and an obsession with zombies and video games, he doesn’t exactly blend in. But he never wanted to.

Bastian prefers structure and predictability. Suffering from a rare disease, every day is a challenge for him, and he prepares for the future by excelling academically and denying who he really is. Everything changes when he meets Noah, the unpredictable variable in the equation he’s built his life around, and feelings he's hid for so long begin to surface.

Moving to Port Haven opens up new possibilities for Noah, and he starts falling for the quiet, brown-eyed boy from his English class. Too bad the attraction is one-sided… or is it?

I love Jaclyn Osborn books, this one is no exception. The author puts our hearts through the wringer with this YA love story about two boys who are on the outside looking in.
Noah has a love of zombies and gore, he has blue hair, and he's used to being different from the rest of the kids.
Bas is suffering from a degenerative disease that one day will leave him deaf. He's just trying to get through life.
When these two boys meet they have an instant connection. One that they're both excited and nervous to act on. We get to see these two boys become young men as they try to fit in while standing out.
Noah's dads are all for him expressing himself any way he sees fit, while Bas's parents want him to take a more traditional and & normal route. It's heartbreaking how much these two have to go through in order to be together, but in the end it's a beautiful story.
My heart broke for Bas and his situation. Though he tries to make the best of it, especially when he has Noah in his life to show that it doesn't all have to be bad.
I could read about these two characters all day long. They're so sweet together.

Noah's Song has so many layers, intertwined into a wonderful YA love story. I've only recently started exploring YA MM novels and what I've found is superb writing and extraordinary stories being told. Jaclyn Osborn captured the angst, along with the sweetness of first love, masterfully.
Noah and Bas are extraordinary young men and their journey together was heartbreaking and heartwarming. The courage and strength these young gay men exhibit, particularly with Bas' disability is a beautiful thing. This book made me think of all the young men fighting to be treated like everyone else in a society that still has a long way to go. It's the sort of book that should be on the curriculum of every senior school. It wouldn't hurt for all adults to read it too. This book will stay with you long after you turn the last page. Noah's Song is hopeful and sweet and everything a great book should be.
    Highly recommended.

Noah's Song is a great story, very well told. It's the story of two high school senior boys, Noah and Bas, who fall hard for each other and fight hurdles to stay together. Sounds like a story told before, and it is, but this novel is written lyrically and is a joy to read, and the character of Bas is unique. Bas suffers from a rare ear disease that is robbing him of his hearing. He must wear hearing aids and is very shy, and is teased as a result. And Noah is a horror movie nerd, so to speak, with blue hair, and has been bullied. So this isn't your typical popular closeted jock falls for shy nerd tale. And the hearing illness really adds depth to the relationship. The book is a lot of fun, with its share of drama, and I can't recommend it strongly enough. Enjoy this tale.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed. I cried. My heart broke in two and regenerated itself. I was enthralled by the plot and the characters. Noah struggles with his past while Bas worries about his future. Together they're perfect.

Family dynamics play a huge role in the story line as does the relationship between siblings. Peer pressure proves to be a help and a hindrance while these two young men work to find a solution to all their problems and build on their growing affection. Friends are supportive and both young men grow and develop strengths needed to succeed.

Sweet but overly saccharine to the point of becoming nauseating. Even the characters who create conflict just do a 180 to board the sugar train out of nowhere. Gee whiz. Still, it's a cute romance in spite of not having much in terms of story beyond Bastian's controlling parents. But the sugar train has room for two more, so worry not.

This story was so sweet and fun, I couldn’t stop reading. Bas was a really vulnerable character who was easy to love, and while Noah tried to be cynical and unphased, it was great to see how he let his guard down around his dads and Bas.
The part at the end with Bas’s mum was a bit jarring and probably could have been handled differently. But that was only one minor point out of an otherwise amazing book.

A beautiful YA story about how difficult it is being different, especially as teenagers, but making your own path and standing up for yourself all the same.
Noah and Bas are so cute together and have such an immediate connection, that navigating their last year of high school with them, dealing with friendships, families and even their own problems, was a really emotional journey.

What a beautiful book. I love the relationships between the characters. I liked that we were drip fed the background information rather than having it forced on the reader in the first few pages. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author
