Protecting His Heart (Nox Bay Pack Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 196 ratings

Can two broken men find peace from the past?

Elliot is a survivor. Raised in a strict community where might makes right, Elliot runs off in search of a better life. When Nox Bay rescues him from the Black Hands, he's on his own for the first time in his life...and the tall, muscular bodyguard the pack Alpha keeps around keeps doing funny things to his heart. But Elliot isn't into guys...right?

Arric is a hardened warrior and the Second Hand of the Nox Bay Pack. He's seen too much death and destruction to get too attached to anyone, and that suits him just fine. He's basically married to the job anyway. But when a small, broken omega crosses his path and needs his help, he realizes that fate has a match in store for him after all. Can he let down his guard long enough to fall in love, and can they both put their pasts behind for a better future?

When Elliot's old flight of dragon shifters find out where he is, they'll be back for blood. And this time, they control one of the four pivotal Keys of Life--an elemental reckoning is coming, and it might just be enough to tear them apart.

Will their fledgling love survive the flames?

Protecting His Heart is the second book in the Nox Bay Pack series. It's meant to be a quick, fun read you can enjoy over your lunch break or before bed, and continues the story that began in Stealing His Heart. Within these pages, you'll find mpreg elements, found family, no cheating, and always a happily ever after! Welcome to the pack <3

Connor Crowe grew up reading stories about dragons, magic, and adventure. He often liked to imagine himself as a character in those stories, and as he grew older he began to write some of them down. He couldn't just write any old fantasy, though. As a die-hard romantic, he tells stories of men finding true love amidst adversity.

When you read a Connor Crowe book, you know you're getting action-packed fantasy romance that will make your heart race in more ways than one ;)

I loved this book! Really liked both MC's a lot and the story was such that last night when I decided to "just" read one chapter, instead I ended up staying up later than I should cuz I just could not put it down. Made me a tiny bit thank it was short... though only a tiny bit cuz I WANT so much MORE from this world! I cannot wait till the next book comes out!!!!

This is the second book in the Nox Bay series, and it continues the adventures of the Nox Bay wolf pack and their unlikely but delightful inter-racial/.inter-species matings. It's a fast read, as it's a novella, and therein lies the issue I have with it. The story is eminently believable in the world being built in the series, and the pairing this time, between a dragon and a wolf, is exciting. The couple -- Arric, the second in command to Markus, the Alpha of the pack, and Elliot, one of the omegas freed from the Black Hands group in the first book -- manage to fit well together because of their fated bond. But Elliot has his surprises, as does Arric, and each turns our expectations about alphas and omegas on their heads. And I love that about this book. I like when the unexpected happens and enhances the storyline, and in this case, makes the characters more interesting and engaging.

What I don't like is the brevity of the tale. This story could have stood to be much more fully developed. Aside from the insta-love, which is explained by Arric's and Elliot's fated status, we know VERY LITTLE about them, nor do we see enough to show who they have the potential to be as fully realized characters. Then, too, the plot revolves around a threat that is far too quickly brought to nothing, albeit by the hubris of the villainess. One minute we're getting ready for a fight, the next it's over, almost before it begins. Then, it begins with a bang...and ends with a whimper. Also, there's only one sex scene, which is pretty tame, considering that one of the characters is (surprised gasp!) a virgin. Not nearly enough is made of that fact, and he seems pretty expert for never having done it before.

So in the end, everything about this story, which we had been built up to believe would be epic, is just...not. 3.5 stars for this installment. I look forward to the next one.

As the second book in the Nox Bay Pack Series, Protecting His Heart starts right when book 1 stops. Elliot, an omega dragon who left his previous pack and found himself with the Black Hands, is one of the omegas saved at the end of book 1. Arric, the second to the Alpha of Nox Bay, is asked to take Elliot and search the ruins of the Black Hands. Both Elliot and Arric feel the pull of a fated mate. But Arric is a work-a-holic, never finding time to look for a mate, and Elliot is straight, or so he thinks. Add in an angry female dragon, dealing with the aftermath of the Black Hands, and getting to know each other, this story keeps you interested and engaged throughout the book.
I really enjoyed Elliot and Arric, and how their mating while fated, was not perfect. It showed a vulnerability with the men that makes them easy to compare to. I do wish there was a little more about their backstories, but do like the action the author adds in with the female dragon. I can't wait for more in this series, to see what happens next.

this is the 2nd book in Nox Bay Pack series. This continue with the Omega freed from the evil Black Hand. Arric is busy being the 2nd in command of the pack and never thought he would find that one that is fated to him. Elloitt feels a pull to Arric but knows that he can not continue with the mating. He has ran from his home to get away from the crazy dragon that say that he was promise to her as her mate. You see the bond that the mates have and protect each other. the mystery magic artifact found in the most unlike place. do recommend that you read the book in order to have background of the pack. highly recommend this series if love to read about shifters

4.0 out of 5 stars Equality, love, and a bunch of action
Reviewed in Canada on June 19, 2019
This novella carries right along from the last few words of the previous book and keeps up the action from there on. While this keeps interest it continues to sacrifice any explanation of the larger world this takes place in, which remains a very curious place.

Arric and Elliot are mates and are finding it out at the worst time. With Nox Bay in flux after the events of the last book and Elliot having been a part of the Black Hand it is difficult to see their future. When it turns out Elliot joined the Black Hand to run from his old pack things get even worse as more threats come knocking on Nox Bay's door.

It is very fast that Elliot and Arric realize they are mates but then that seems to be the way of these shifters. Though Elliot has had bad experiences with alphas in the past it becomes increasingly clear to him that Arric is nothing like that. Arric is kind and open to Elliot and wants nothing more than to protect him and be with him as an equal partner. This lets the two of them quickly connect and makes for a sweet love story amidst the action.

The end is on a bit of a cliffhanger with a new character coming in that is a bit of a mystery. With the storyline of the stones it seems this could be leading to a last book to finish up the story being told here.

Nox Bay, Protecting his Heart, begins where Part One ends. In the liberation of the omegas from the hands of the criminal "Black Hands"
    .
Elliot a dragon Omega, has left his former pack, his flight of dragons, because he had expected a terrible fate. Mated to a very sneaky, evil female Alpha Dragon.
After being released, he is left alone for the first time in his life.
    .
However, his savior Arric is never far away. Arric is a warrior married to his job.
    .
The two are surprised that they are fated mates. Both have their doubts and reservations, especially Elliot.

When the Alpha Dragon arrives at Nox Bay, it gets really dangerous again for Elliot.
    .
I love the book and how the story of Nox Bay and the artifacts continues to evolve.
And I'm really looking forward to the next part of the series.
