Eve has been on the road for five long years. She’s worn down, injured, and haunted by ravens. She knows the beast is after her, after all the beast always comes for God’s chosen one. She feels it the way her namesake could feel the snake getting closer in Eden. It spurs her on, long past breaking point. Adam knows he’s the last man alive on this planet. The Super Plague was a pestilence of biblical proportions and it did what God never could, it was the genocide of the homo-sapiens. Adam relishes our new world, marveling at the magnificence of the natural order being restored with no one left to ruin, plunder, or take from it. He holds out hope that he’ll find a woman, that maybe they can save mankind from extinction. Amid the sun bleached skeletons, abandoned homes and cars, and endless vistas of our dystopia, the sole survivors find each other despite the odds. He can’t trust her, she’s not the Holy Mother for our revival. The only things standing between him and the ultimate freedom he craves is a superficial woman and her gun.

    I enjoyed this story. Lovatt's writing style is natural and easy to read. Without belabouring the points too much, he gets across what he's saying, and I was able to visualize whatever he was describing.

    That said, I thought it ended a little abruptly, and I would have liked a little more follow-up. All in all, though, an enjoyable story.

    What do the last woman and man think about as they travel the empty world? One thinks of being the Holy One chosen to repopulate the world. The other thinks of companionship, love and starting over. C. W. Lovatt gives us a different view of the end of the world and what if you were the last man or woman.

    This story is not your usual,end of the world apocalyptic tale,it delves deep into the human psyche. Many people might say,”if the end of the world came,I’d do this or I’d do that,but being faced with the actual situation is something completely different.

    This tale brings to mind,the saying “Not if you were the only man,or woman left on this earth “

An enjoyable read, and I was gripped from the very beginning of this latest story by the talented C W Lovatt. An author who is able to write in so many genres, a complete contrast to The Little Mouse.
