About the author

Valerie Larouche is a traditionally published author who’s made the jump into the indie world.
A fan of Agatha Christie and Edgar Allan Poe, her genre of predilection is mystery, but she dabbles in Gothic literature and fantasy as well. Obsessed with dreams, hauntings, and a good eerie ambience, she writes stories where shadows move and nightmares have meaning.
When she’s not writing, Valerie can be found bingeing a murder mystery series, playing eerie video games, or wishing she was at Walt Disney World going in and out of the Haunted Mansion ride in an endless loop.
Valerie lives in the Greater Montreal region with her fiancé, a hundred plushies, and way more stationery than anyone could need in a lifetime.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2023Resonance is a great book for any fan of psychic fiction. By the second chapter I was caught up in the story and couldn't put it down. Odessa is fascinating and a big personality. Her character is so strong, I almost felt that I was her.
The next book in the series is definitely on my list, can't wait to see what happens next.
Valerie Larouche is a new author for me, and I will be reading more of her work.
I received an advance review copy and this is my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2022Odessa "Dee" Baker has spent her entire life running from the dreams that have haunted her, dreams of missing children, children she could not save, including her sister, Paris. So when her childhood best friend shows up on her doorstep, begging Dee to find her missing child Keven, Dee finally agrees to try one more time… But, dreams are cruel mistresses, can Dee decipher the messages and find the missing child, without losing her mind or becoming the prime suspect?
I foolishly decided to read a chapter before going to bed, and for a book based on someone dreaming, my night was filled with anything but sleep. I could NOT put this book down! I loved the interplay between Dee and the mystery. Her dreams were creepy and yet filled with clues, that alluded to a much deeper mystery. Because, for a sleeply, small town in Canada, there seems to be quite a lot of missing children.
Normally, I am not a fan of the reluctant heroine trope. However, Dee's experiences are so steeped in trauma, both emotional and physical that you wanted to shake and hug the sarcastic Dee, often at the same time. You could see how the physical trauma of enduring the emotions of the victims in her dreams affected her in the morning. Plus the author did not shy away from the emotional trauma of losing her sister and not being able to figure out the meanings of dreams that are supposed to help-- leading to dead bodies and unanswered questions.
I especially liked the breadcrumbs of the deeper mystery that the author spread through the book, so that, while some questions were answered you were left wanting more. I WILL be watching for the next in this series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2022Odessa (Dee) Baker has survived tragedies and lives with trauma, so she's turned her back on her home and her past. But she has strange dreams that still come to her. When a former childhood friend shows up asking for help, Dee reluctantly returns home in hopes that her ability will help find a missing boy.
Thank you to Book Sirens from whom I got a copy of this book. This is my honest, unbiased review. I fell in love with this book from the beginning and really didn't want to put it down. Sleep, however, beckoned so I had to wait the night out. This book was well-written, the story captivating, and I enjoyed it immensely. The genre is a favorite although the storyline is original, and I loved how Dee grew throughout the book. The individual mystery in this book was solved and will definitely keep you guessing. But this book does leave openings for a series and I'm really looking forward to more books. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting paranormal story
I enjoyed this book, although at first I wondered if I would like the heroine. She seemed rather brusque and rude. However, I got to like her and realised she had a kind heart under that kick-ass exterior. It was interesting that she was a psychic through her dreams and despite her best attempts to stay out of it, feels compelled to find a missing boy. It kept me reading to the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing crime thriller
The FMC, Dee, has untapped psychic abilities and is reluctantly dragged into helping investigate when an ex-friend’s son is kidnapped.
A gripping tale which I really enjoyed. Dee is witty and jaded, her sarcasm sets the tone of the story. I found that the gravity of a missing child wasn’t deep enough at times, such as when Alma (mother), “giggles” during a search. Other than that throwing me a little, it is a fantastic read and I’m very keen to read the second instalment to see where Dee goes from here and perhaps tie up some unanswered questions. (However, it is not a cliffhanger).
