Another great book in the DWA series. If you read the last book you might remember that Hayden has gotten himself captured and has disappeared off the shifter grid. Imagine if you were kidnapped and brought to a lab where you know they are going to do horrible and painful things to you - and you figure out that your kidnapper is none other than your mate! Hayden can't believe that the little woman who caused his capture is his fated mate. Millie managed to develop a sedative that will take down a supernatural and his bone-headed visit to the authorities where he told them he was a supe has sealed his fate in more ways than one. Now he has to hide his animals and try to stay alive long enough to figure out how to escape.
Millie was always told that she was meant for something big. She is sure that experimenting on this shifter will help lead her to ways to help soldiers stay alive and eventually to cure human diseases. Unfortunately, she is starting to question the methods she is using as she begins to see Hayden as more than an animal to cut samples from. When her boss starts to insist on more invasive procedures, she knows she is going to have to get Hayden out of his cell and off of the military base where her lab is located. This will mean the end of all her dreams, and maybe her life, but she is determined to make it happen. Little does she know that the great thing she is meant to achieve is Hayden's love.
There is a side story that is started in this one as a maahe in Angus' court requests permission to investigate what really was going on with Troy before he was killed by Donavan as he was trying to molest Izzy. Donavan has been imprisoned ever since, and his mother, the witch Isis, is beside herself. Blaine wants to know what really happened and how Donavan was even able to kill a dragon shifter. Stay tuned because this investigation is just beginning.
