On Midnight Shores: A Small Town Grumpy Sunshine Romance (Never Harbor Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 704 ratings

He’s Never Harbor’s tattooed bad boy, and I’m the good girl he doesn’t know exists.

I’ve loved Rafe Cohen since I knew unavailable artists with piercing amber eyes and reckless tattoos sparked my young, inexperienced heart.

If only the man knew who I was.

But, as it turns out, I can be reckless too. That’s how I end up in Rafe’s print shop with my legs around his waist and my innocence in his talented hands.

He insists our one night stand is just that: one night. He’s not a relationship guy.

But when he needs a new employee, and I’ve gotten one too many art internship rejections, we’re spending the summer closer than either of us expected. I want to learn everything, and lessons on painting techniques quickly turn into lessons of a very different kind.

I’m a good girl going bad, sneaking around our small town with the one man I shouldn’t, learning how art and intimacy intertwines in the most delicious ways.

I can be casual and still protect my heart. Sort of. Maybe.

I just hope I don’t learn my lesson the hard way.

ON MIDNIGHT SHORES is a grumpy sunshine, opposites attract romance with spice lessons! This is book three in Never Harbor, a series of interconnected stand-alone contemporary romances set in a coastal small town.

Town’s Bad Boy and Princess
🖼️🖼️🖼️🖼️/5 Is the town Bad Boy really so bad? Gosh I love Rafe and Bonnie so much and I would do anything to protect them! Bonnie was so relatable and hard to not love. I’ve been rooting for her since the very beginning and so of course I was rooting hard for her in her own love story. I LOVED her in the beginning. Pretending to be confident and going after what she wanted. It was perfect, and then watching her slightly struggle to maintain that in real life hit hard, because it’s so accurate. Rafe is so misunderstood. The more we learned about him the more I loved him. He might be a “bad boy” but he’s got a heart of gold and he’s really so much more than he’s made out to be. And the way he was treated by the town in the ending? Slay me because that was SO CUTE! I also loved getting some of the side stories in this one, so I’m even more excited to see where those couples may go. The friendship between Bonnie and LuLu is the epitome of what you’d want for a best friend. And her brothers being so protective over her was endearing and sweet but also annoying. But sibling relationships are like that so it was done perfectly. One thing I didn’t love was Rafe’s mom. She makes me angry and I wish we would’ve gotten some much closure for him on that front. Otherwise, I don’t have really anything to complain about. I just simply adored this book!

This is the third in a modern Peter Pan retelling. I love the feel of this small coastal town and all the places/people that match up to the original story. Julie’s imagery lets you feel the briny breeze and hear the waves in the distance.

Bonnie is the only girl with four older brothers. They are protective and so is the town but she is tired of the kid gloves. Rafe, the local tatted up motorcycle riding cigarette smoking quiet artist bad boy, has no intention of using said gloves. Turns out the image doesn’t match the actions or attitude.

Their love story is gritty and hard on both of them and they have to confront internal preconceived opinions of themselves. But there is also lots of art and sweet moments.

Julie says this is a slow burn but she’s a stone cold liar! The spice is somehow both hesitant and bold and detailed and full of discovery and so so so sweet.

I love this series! The stories are just so cozy and full of so much heart!

Right off the bat, I loved how Bonnie has always noticed Rafe and knew he was who she wanted from the beginning of the story. I loved Rafe's broody, grumpy attitude and how he tried to fight Bonnie and all of the sunshine she brought to the story!

I think my favorite part of the story was seeing some of the behind the scenes feelings each of the characters felt and how they processed them. From Bonnie questioning her art and Rafe feeling like he wasn't enough, it made the story feel so much more authentic!

I loved that we saw more of Jasper and Wendy, and Cassidy and Marina! Family is such a huge part of this story, it was nice to see everyone getting together!

I could get lost in the pages of a Julie Olivia book on any given day. Especially when that book exists in 𝙽𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝙷𝚊𝚛𝚋𝚘𝚛. 𝙊𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨 is the third book in the series and it was delightful. It’s captivating, romantic, and full of heart.

I absolutely adored Rafe + Bonnie. Literal soulmates. They are warm, lovable, and my heart is swooning just thinking of them. These two were equally down bad for one another and I ate it up. The want, the need, the desire between them was coastal small town magic! Their character development was amazing. The way Bonnie grew to be strong and confident in herself, and Rafe finding a true love and beginning to heal and overcome his past was beautiful.

I loved it so much and I truly cannot wait for the upcoming books in the 𝙽𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝙷𝚊𝚛𝚋𝚘𝚛 series.

Oh, my swooning heart. Julie Olivia has done it again with this return to Never Harbor by bringing us Bonnie Davies and Rafe Cohen and their beautiful love story. This slow burn novel about two people who truly see each other while the rest of their town and families see a rough sketch of them is absorbing and absolutely addictive. I read this book in a day. I walked into multiple pieces of furniture in my house because I could not put it down.

At first glance, Bonnie and Rafe seem like polar opposites, like sunshine and storm clouds. But really? They are the perfect champion for each other. Protective of the other. Watching their love spark and grow and burn made me feel warm and full of fireflies. Not only do we get to know Bonnie Davies - the only daughter in the rambunctious Davies brood - but we also get to know the mysterious Rafe Cohen. Bonnie struggles with what so many of us struggle with - disappointing the people we admire, evolving from children into adults even while the people who know us struggle to see our growth, and feeling like we belong when we sometimes don’t really feel like we know who we are and where we are supposed to be. Bonnie’s reputation as the “good girl with all those brothers” feels stifling, especially with all those brothers watching her every move. And her relationship with her mother feels tenuous and delicate, causing her more self-doubt and increased feelings of isolation.

Rafe is just magical. A Never Harbor staple who seems like he is still a wee bit of an outlier, he is the most delicious book boyfriend - a broody artist covered in tattoos with inky hair and perpetually dressed in black who is actually kinder and gentler and more nurturing than anyone else. He nurtures Bonnie’s art, her self-confidence, her self-advocacy, and makes sure she eats. His self-awareness is so alluring, and his respect for Bonnie is marvelous. I could not get enough of these two - they paint each other when they’re apart! Their art and respect for each other’s artistry is such a gorgeous part of their attraction to each other. Chef’s kiss.

I loved spending this time with Rafe and Bonnie. I loved watching them grow and blossom individually and into a couple. And I loved watching the rest of the Davies clan (plus Izzy and Lulu) learn and grow and evolve as well. Belonging is beautiful, yet it is sometimes uncomfortable and stifling. But in Never Harbor, people try to see each other for who they are, and they try to be true to themselves and each other. And that is something special.

I received an advance review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Bonnie and Rafe completely stole my heart.

Bonnie already had a crush on the grumpy, tattooed, and reclusive guy in town—but what she didn’t expect was that he had already noticed her too. The chemistry between these two is off the charts! I loved seeing Bonnie open up and learn not to be afraid of expressing her desires.

Rafe is such a captivating character—watching him allow himself to fall for Bonnie and being unable to deny the connection between them was just beautiful.

Another thing I absolutely loved was his friendship with Izzy. And speaking of Izzy… Julie, what were those scenes with Izzy and Peter?! I seriously can’t wait for their story!

I didn’t expect this book to come so soon, but it was the best surprise. Once again, Julie Olivia delivered a masterpiece.

There are some books that you know within the first few pages that they will be five stars and that is the case with On Midnight Shores. I devoured it in one sitting and am just in awe. This book is full of well-realized characters all of which have dimension and gravitas. The romance is the kind that makes you wonder if your heart will give out because of how much it beats for the characters.

Julie Olivia is masterful at writing vulnerability. Rafe and Bonnie both have feelings of insecurity and doubts. They see in each other the value they can’t see themselves and work to help the other realize their worth. They recognize all of each other’s intricacies and love them all. It was beautiful to read.

As an aside, Chapter 22 almost did me in. WOW.

Take me back to Never Harbour anytime.

I received an early copy from the author and loved it so much that I bought the paperback. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was such an unexpectedly cute read! I fell in love with Rafe right there with Bonnie ❤️ And Bonnie was a great fmc in my opinion, loved how she went for what she wanted even if it was terrifying to do so. I definitely will be reading the other books in this series.
