Once Bitten (Javier Coven Book 1) Kindle Edition

Dante – For over three hundred years, I’ve waited for Fate to deliver my soulmate; the person I’d love for the rest of my life; the one I was destined to protect, to treasure and to cherish. The one to complete me. I never expected to find him dancing like an angel in my nightclub. The moment my eyes gazed upon his beauty, my heart was gone. The most mesmerizing thing about him were his eyes; he had the biggest, roundest doe eyes I’d ever seen. They were an enchanting shade of blue; the exact color of the Mediterranean Sea. When I looked into those eyes, I was home. The problem? Ben is human and knows nothing of vampires or our culture. His anxious nature and pure heart give me pause in divulging my true identity. Will he believe what I have to tell him? Can he ever accept what I’ve done; what I need to do? Can someone so sweet and innocent ever see me as anything but a monster? Time is running out for me to claim my mate as I grow weaker every day. If he does accept me, can I keep him safe from the dangers that lurk around every corner?

Ben – The nightclub really isn’t my scene. I’m more of a book reading, star gazing nerd at heart. However, I allow my best friend to drag me out one night (at nine o’clock, I might add!) because I can’t resist his puppy dog expression and he knows it. There, I find the sexiest man I’ve ever seen; tall, strong, and with a sultry Spanish accent that turns my insides to goo. We hit it off immediately, but I’m worried; how can this wealthy, powerful man be attracted to boring little me? The most exciting thing about me is that I know how to ballroom dance, and that’s only because I took lessons with my grandma! I’ve got no experience with men, my best friend refers to me as “Papaw” because again, I’m boring, and a hundred different worries are always battling in my mind. Can Dante accept me as I am and maybe bring a little excitement into my life?
*This M/M paranormal romance is for readers 18 and up! It has no cliffhangers or cheating and a very happy HEA. It contains a sexy Spaniard vampire, his anxious little love and a hilarious (if not insufferable) best friend. Look out for lurking dangers, heartwarming moments and steamy scenes!
**Author’s note: Thank you for your interest in my book! This paranormal romance features my take on some seriously sexy vampires. They share many attributes of vampires found in other fictional works, but not all. This book contains dark elements, fated mates, sweet moments and lots of laughs. My stories tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart; I like getting to the good stuff and live for fluff. If “instalove” isn’t your thing, my books may not be for you. I want my readers to finish my books with a smile on their face and a fierce case of the warm and fuzzies. Laughter is guaranteed, and each read delivers its own type of drama. Thanks again for taking a look and happy reading!

Ben and Dante. Wow. Not only was this an amazing story filled with pure love, happiness, hilarious moments and spicy kisses. But wow. The story building is amazing and starts from page 1. I was drawn into the circle of main characters immediately and continued to be invested with the awesome world throughout the entire book.

    I can’t wait for more!

Jayda is the queen of low angst romance and this little book is no different. It's absolutely charming and one I've reread a couple times when I just need a cute and quick read. If you enjoy the kink, size difference and the paranormal/vampire aspect at all I can definitely recommend it!

Sam is hilarious and Ben really is too sweet. They truly complement each other! I love how much Sam doesn’t let Dante intimidate him and how accepting Dante is of their unique relationship. Platonic soulmates and fated mates clashing in love and acceptance!!

I'd almost swear that sweet little virgin Ben was originally written as a female, but changed hurriedly into a gay character? His part in the book is so 'girly' (and i hate to use that word, but i can't think of another, forgive me). Ben and vampire Dante are soul mates, and they are just soooo soppy together.

As every other reviewer has mentioned, Sam is the standout character; lively, witty, and modern. Dante and Ben are OTT. What with Ben gushing over Dante. and then Dante's flowery speech, Sam is the ray of light in the entire book.

Without the soppiness, the story, to my mind, would have probably been five stars. There's a well thought-out plot, complete with action and baddies, and the story is a decent length, unlike many so-called ''books" that are on Kindle today.

Sorry, not sorry, I really liked this book. It was refreshing to read a low angst book. I'm tired of the old tropes of boy meets boy/girl, boy screws up, boy and boy/girl split up over nothing, boy's parents/family interfere, boy and boy/girl eventually get back together after more than 200 pages of ANGST. Not to say there wasn't danger, lots of that, there were vampires after all, but at least the principle characters stayed together through all of that. And, frankly, I really liked Ben. You have to take into consideration that the boy was, after all, only 20 years old and had very little life experience and was thrust into a bewildering world overnight. I thought he did just fine. So he giggles, I'm 72 years and I giggle sometimes too. It's very satisfying. This is my first experience with this author and won't be my last. I like being able to read a book where the characters are NOT all damaged and having to cope with the horribleness of life over and over again. There's enough of that type of stuff daily in the news. Not that I don't read books like that, Sloane Kennedy and Alexa Land are two of my favorite authors that write like that, but occasionally I want a little bit of sunshine and Ben supplied that in spades. Well done Ms Marx! I've already started the second book in this series and and can't wait for Sam's story.

Great story. Loved the characters and how you just couldn’t help but continue to turn the page until the very end. Dante was old world and that came across in his speech, charm, and devotion to his love. Ben was an old soul and that translated beautifully into his relationship with friends and Dante. Loved the story can’t wait for more.

I was so happy when I found out that Jayda had more vampire books beyond the Love Bites series. This first book in the Javier Coven series was just as entertaining as DD/lb books, minus the kink (except for biting and drinking blood, obviously.

This is an insta-love trope, so if you don't like that, here is your warning! There is almost no character building, which is fine for the novella-length books she does, but I was anticipating at least some more development of Dante, the Javier coven, and the vampire kingdom as a whole.

I just loved Dante's personality and how he treated Ben, which was very romantic. My only question that I need answered is WHY DOES THE PRINCE OF VAMPIRES LIVE IN OHIO??????

I really wanted to like this book, but at the 62% mark I found myself skimming most of the pages in hopes of finding something interesting. Ben acts and thinks like a virgin teenage girl, it's unsettling...and don't get me started with all the slut shaming in this book. Just because Ben is a virgin he is the perfect image of respect, morals and purity (hi, the 1950's called and it wants it's old prejudices back). Basically he is perfect, everyone he meets fall in love with him in five seconds and people think he deserves more respect since he doesn't hook up like his friend Sam. I felt like this book was M/F and not M/M...I also have a problem with the amount of fluff(?) in this. You can have a sweet, cute romance without making the readers gag with it...
