- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2022For fellow Greek mythology fans like myself, this was a fun twist on classic tales. With all the twists, the author did a good job of keeping true to many points in classic mythology which I thought was very interesting.
I enjoyed reading mythology as a kid, studied it in college and couldn’t pass up the chance to read this updated take on a classic story. The one thing that I found as I read mythology was there was always a lack of a HEA. There’s a resolution and sometimes it was fair-ish. But there was rarely, if ever, a true happy ending for those involved in these tales.
In this story, Orpheus experiences his share of heartbreak and loss. He’s slightly naive as he heads into the world on his first adventure having been sheltered as a child of a king and a superior muse. As he experiences life, love and loss, he comes into his own as a famous musician. There is the same air of tragedy that accompanies many myths and you feel for Orpheus during his journey. I felt the ending held true to the feel of the original and had a little something for the characters involved. Definitely looking forward to more of this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2022What a good retelling of the story of Orpheus. I have always enjoyed Greek mythology and I think what I liked about this version of the story is that it centered the original story and added elements to the story that made it new in places without taking anything away from it. I am looking forward to reading the earlier stories from this series now and those that come after this one. And in these stories there are always life lessons shared via the entertaining journeys of their characters.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2022This book was so well written. I'm glad B.J. continued to keep aspects of the Greek Myth of Orpheus true to the storyline and to parts but added his own twist on them, just as he did with Meduso and Arrogance. I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2022This series is great if you like Greek myth retellings! Each stands on their own and feels true to the original story. I really enjoyed the tale of Orpheus and was glad to see a happy ending at the end of this tale. I think if you're familiar with the original story, there aren't too many surprises and yet BJ Irons still makes the tale engaging. I'm really looking forward to the others in this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2023This is the story of Orpheus, or rather a fantastic retelling of the famous myth of Orpheus. It is the 3rd book in The Mythologay series. Please read the trigger warnings. I loved how the author kept to the original but put his own spin on it as well, which made for a fun and interesting read. Definitely recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it voluntarily
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2022I am really enjoying this series giving a spin on mythology and here we get to explore through the story of Orpheus, what life experiences went into making the storyteller, poet and musician of lore. Thank goodness these retellings manage to give our main characters a happy ending. Looking forward to more in this series.
