OUT: A Cam Thomas Story Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 267 ratings

We’re all on our own path in life. Cam Thomas is no different. The twists and turns in the road have left her hurt and heartbroken in London, betrayed by those she loved most. But fate has many ways of turning things on their head. She arrives in LA a new person and sets about making a new life for herself, one that won’t break her heart again. Haunted by the past, she lives by a set of rules that allow her to live life in the moment. Rules that keep her heart safe. Until that fateful night when every rule she lived by changes in a heartbeat. Now she must figure out a way to navigate her new path, with hope and maybe, just maybe, love by her side. Michelle Hamilton spends her life pretending to be someone else, quite literally. Her working name is Shelley Hamlin, A-list TV actress, and movie star. She’s so far in the closet, she’s in Narnia, but temptation comes to us all in the end. Venturing to the best, biggest, and newest gay bay in LA, Michelle finds herself drawn to the hot blonde behind the bar, will one kiss bring everything crashing down?

From the author of the award-winning, The Promise, plus Escape & Freedom, The Doll Maker, and In Dyer Need. Highton-Stevenson brings real characters to life in the fun and exciting world of Cam Thomas.

About the Author

Claire Highton-Stevenson is a first-time novelist. She grew up in London and subsequently now lives in West Sussex along with her wife and fur babies. Ambitiously, she tries to travel as much as possible. Maybe a lottery win would help with that! Surprisingly, Los Angeles is high on her list of places to visit.

Claire Highton-Stevenson is a British Indie author. She writes heartwarming, Sapphic romance in contemporary settings. Claire's characters are bold, strong, independent women who love women.

However, she is also known to throw in a mystery or two. Claire likes to move around the tropes at will, and will often bend the rules to create exciting and often unique situations. She's not afraid to tackle darker topics either.

My first time with this author, and I look forward to more. Great characters, with great depth and personalities that are flawed, some endearing and some not. This is the first of a series that has me hooked to find out more. It is a story of the ultimate betrayal, self-discovery, and learning to trust again. The question that came to me as I finished "Out", was, what does it take to break out of the boxes we self impose upon ourselves, to keep our hearts safe from pain? Cam has to find her way 'out' of that box, to open herself to possibilities for a better future. What's next??? I'm going to check it out.

Girl gets heart broken, swears to never fall in love again, moves to LA and creates a new life. There is the usual angst, and a wonderful first time experience.

This book could have used a little tighter editing but it wasn’t bad enough to keep me from reading the next book in the series. 😉

I received an advanced copy of this book and I have to tell you that I'm so happy that I did. I couldn't put it down! It caught my attention right from the start and made me want to know what was going to happen next clear to the end. I absolutely fell in love with the the characters especially Cam and Michelle. They are extremely compelling women. The way the author describes them you feel like you're right there with them experiencing their emotions right along beside them. This is the first in a trilogy and I'm eagerly awaiting the next two! Wonderful first book from this new author!

Enjoyed the storyline and the characters (main and side). An engaging read with twists and turns and a bit of angst. Looking forward to the sequel.

I loved this book. I liked it how Can made her money and made a life for herself. Then she met the woman she was meant to be with, with all the ups and downs that go with love.

I followed this one originally on fictionpress, and snapped up a more permanent copy when it became available. I've always been a fan of the 'reluctant girl needs to be persuaded' types of stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully surprised!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 8, 2017
I am not by nature a fan of the romance genre, so was pleasantly surprised by this book. I instantly resonated with the lead character and thought the theme of the story was both fun and wispy, but also held a deeper emotional thread, of which developed as the story progressed. Often times these types of books seem laboured and forced, but this had a certain flowing quality that made it easy to read, and easy to gravitate to. Humour was a subtle background taste, which I loved. All in all a very good read...like my headline states..I was wonderfully surprised by this book and find the lead character both likeable and believable. which in itself is a hard paradox to get right. As a fledgling book the author has managed to both entice and keep the attention, for a non romance reader, deserves five stars..As I see it says Volume One....I will wait to see what other delights the author will provide in the coming months ..

5.0 out of 5 stars Camryn & Michelle
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 10, 2024
Whilst living in England Camryn had been unlucky in love but very lucky on the lottery, winning big. Big enough to leave Britain & her heartache behind & set herself up as a bar owner in LA where she keeps herself amused with a string of affairs but abides strictly to her golden rule - one night only, no repeats. That is until the beautiful but closeted actress Michelle enters her bar one evening & sets off a chain of events that changes Cam’s outlook on love completely.
This is the first of 4 books in the ‘Cam Thomas’ series by the wonderful Claire Highton-Stevenson, a writer whose works I enjoy immensely. The characters & storyline in this first book are so entertaining and enjoyable that I’m sure I’ll make my way through the whole series in next to no time.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a real page turner !!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 3, 2017
A good read for me, is one that catches my attention from the 1st chapter.
'OUT' did just that. I love the way the author draws the reader into the story . The tension created by the author, as Camryn is about to open the door to her room, actually made me feel her fear. Her pain at what she found was palpable. This book is a real page turner. The story was both sensitive and sensual. The characters created by the author, were all so believable, that by the end of the book, it felt as if i knew them well. The big question now Is, when will Claire Highton-Stevenson be releasing her next book?

I really enjoyed OUT! A perfect holiday read! The characters, plot and writing were really well thought out, the story wasn't too predictable (like other similar books) and you feel like you are reading about real people. Looking forward to seeing what is next for Cam!
